    I noticed this awhile ago. That's why, as much as the movie get crucified (including by me), M. Knight Shamalan's film going and saying he has like 1 or 2 years before the comet arrives instead of the end of the summer, makes it feel less rushed and having more time to correctly scale the world. Also as a side note, I like how Shamalan balanced the fire nations firebending in that movie, in that they need a pre-existing flame to bend fire, making it feel more like the other 3 needing their elements to be present to be able to bend. Only Iroh was able to 'produce fire' because of his teaching from the dragons, learning how to harness the inner fire of his spirit to fire bend.

    Your proposed solutions would make the show worse. Splitting up the gang earlier ruins the great group dynamics that you watch the show for. Making the last episode take place over weeks ruins the tension. The truth is that while a perfect story with no impossible/improbable contrived plot conveniences may be possible to write, 99% of stories aren’t that. You may be disturbed by the notion certain stories get held to higher standards based on the high regard they are held in but it’s just true. We like to think we are perfectly rational so when something nonsensical happens in a show our brains would freak out but this isn’t the case. We like stories with believable/relatable characters who have to earn their victories in cool struggles that have deeper themes relating to our human condition in the real world. Whenever a story loses these aspects we stop having fun and decide to pick apart the logical inconsistencies that were probably there the whole time. While I wish the writers of avatar infinite foresight and planning time as well as no worries their show would get cancelled by nickolodian so they could have scripted an ending requiring nothing impossible this was not the case. Characters had to end up at thematically relevant places under a ticking clock for the ending to be good so they made it happen. The show is better for this not worse since we got such great moments that were still earned by the characters. Energy bending is bad cause it didn’t feel earned for Ang but other than that the ending is great.

    This distance measuring is all based on the "weeks of travel" comment, but remember that Iroh and Zuki mapped Aang's travel patterns... And it just didn't seem like Aang knew where he was going. I doubt his estimated "weeks to get there" comment was any more accurate.

    Well… 1. Azula slipping into insanity blunted her ability to strategize and plan, which was the one area where she had Zuko’s beat. Notice how Azula runs physical circles around Zuko during that last fight but Zuko does not move. He is certain of his purpose and sure of himself. He has set his roots, and she cannot break them. Had the fight continued on, Zuko may well have won outright. 2. I would bet that Energybending was hinted at late in Season 2. Guru Pathik seemed to know when Aang had unlocked a chakra. How could he know that if he was not able to sense the energy flowing within Aang? Had Aang finished his training with Pathik he may have learned Energybending there. 3. Plot convenience.

    Probably appa and aang didnt use to travel by themselves before aang vanished, and during the show, aang and his friends learn the geography from the world, at the same time appa gets more and more used to fly, which means he learned how to go faster and got used to fly for a long time, instead of getting so tired as he used to in season 1 Also, we dont know how fast is the lizard that took team sokka to the airships, he could be like super fast

  • @yashwanthsrivathsavakurapa2511

    I believe it's just a mistake by the creators - they initially wanted the world to be big and thus book 1 mentions weeks of travel. But as the show grew, I think the story needed the world to be smaller or the travel to be faster for the sake of the overall story, so they just did that. I think it's okay to do this, because it's not that great of a deal in a fictional show anyway because what matters is how good the actual story is. And I think we shouldn't try to explain why season 1's travel was longer than the next two seasons as it's really pointless. Attack on Titan also has many things in the beginning of the story that aren't consistent with the rest of the show due to the similar reasons and it ended up not mattering because the story is good

    I mean, raw distance might not be the only factor when traveling by sky bison. Headwinds, tailwinds, weather conditions, need to plan places for Appa to eat, avoiding active war zones that they don't yet have the skills to fight their way out of, etc would likely mean that they don't get to take a straight path.

    I think there are even bigger issues with the finale that no one talks about. E.g. the more I think about the White Lotus in the finale the less I like it: Being members of the White Lotus does not fit into the characterisation of Paku and Jeong Jeong and if you revisit the story with the knowledge that all these people are connected their actions all make less sense than before. Moreover, I hate that Iroh's glorious moment of redemption is him fighting another battle for Ba Sing Se, but this time against his own countrymen. Potentially Iroh just caused more young fire nation soldiers to die right where Lu Ten died...

    If you don't count that one sentence said by Aang about weeks from the north pole (which was at the beginning of the series when not everything was clear even in the minds of producers), then suddenly EVERYTHING else makes sense and there are no more weird problems with the time

  • @Turtlezzzzzzzzzz
    @Turtlezzzzzzzzzz Місяць тому

    The cornerstone of your argument leans on Aang saying “weeks away from the North Pole” As many others have stated, season 1 was extremely leisurely and full of side stories. Aang himself, at the end of episode 2, talks about all the places he wants to stop on the way to the North Pole. It’s reasonable to assume Aang, in a stressed out state, over exaggerated how long it was going to take to get to the North Pole while still including all their little side adventures. If we assume the Avatar world is the same size as our Earth, then consider how long it takes to fly in modern jets from point A to B. The longest flights we have today max out around 24ish hours, and that’s simply due to lack of fuel, specific locations for take off/landing. Now Appa likely does not fly at 500mph like modern planes, but he does not need constant fuel, he can fly in a perfectly straight line without worrying about hitting anything and it’s reasonable to assume he can boost his speed with airbending in times of crisis. All that said, neat video 👍

    There IS something you are missing. although alot of people think Sozen's Comet is a single historical day it very well might have been alot more. Comet's in the real world last for days or sometimes weeks. Also do any of you really think fire lord Sozen wiped out the air nomads in a single day? Due to their air power and general architecture of their temples that's physically impossible it had to be a multi step process. Even IF the attack just made them scattered and then they were picked one by one with regular firebending that wouldn't work. They are air nomads. So after a single devastating attack they would easily regroup at which point regular firebending wouldnt be enough to take em down even when they are weakened we all know how OP air nomads are. So i think sozen's comet in both visits lasted a few days rather than just one for the events of the show to be possible

    Valid critique and I am glad this actually lived up to the "nobody talks about it" but I'd say in season 1, they were galivanting and sightseeing while in season 3, they were on a deadline. Also, the first time you take a journey is usually the longest. They probably figured they could just fly straight ahead without breaks and all.

    About the Airship Air Strike, I don't think their plan was to literally burn the entire continent of the Earth Kingdom, but burn a path of destruction through major military targets. In the American Civil War from US history, when Sherman "burned through the South," he didn't literally burn through every single square mile of land throughout the entire southern regions of the United States. His army burned through major cities that were important military targets to weaken the South. Likewise, I figured that the airship fleet was going to go and burn down major Earth Kingdom cities that were still major strongholds of active resistance against the Fire Nation or just largely populated areas. I assumed that they would burn a path of destruction through such cities until reaching Ba Sing Se and eventually complete the journey by destroying Ba Sing Se. There would be no point in them just shooting fire at miles and miles of deserts and wastelands and other uninhabited wilderness areas that are of no geopolitical or military significance.

  • @HeribertSchleck
    @HeribertSchleck Місяць тому

    The scale issue of the airship fleet in the finally always bugged me, too. And also the fact that they are scorching a literally empty, desolate, dusty landscape. From what was established, I would have imagined something like the rumbling from attack on titan, or at least a rain of fire on several major cities of the earth kingdom or something. What we got in the show was not even a real threat to anyone. And yes, I am aware that they had to keep it family friendly, but I argue that they didn’t need to show people and cities actually getting incinerated, if they didn’t want to. The fleet could have started their flame throwers a few kilometres away from Omashu or Basingsei or another major city (because of the Bumi and White lotus storylines) and burn some acres and farms etc. but so that refugees and citizens in the cities would actually see and fear what was approaching them. This would have created a real sense of urgency for Sokka, Toph and Suki as well as Aang. Overall the burning the ground doesn’t really make sense with all the fire nation citizens and soldiers present on the ground…

    I remember Aang lying that Appa was tired, wasting time to ride the elephant koi. Then the gang had to stop for food or money. So lot's of time wasting honestly. But then in the finale, stress levels are so high, they're not as hungry and they have no need for money at this time. If I remember correctly, Toph won a lot of coin with her scams so they are not strapped for money for the remainder of the season.

    "Overlooking travel time is the kind of major f up other shows get crucified over" (shows GoT & RoP logos). Your mistake here is assuming the reason people crucify shows is the thing that they said online was the reason. But more often than not, someone criticising a show decided whether or not they liked it based on vibes, and then went looking for reasons to justify that opinion after the fact. This is what always happens, it's basic human nature. In GoT, if the writing hadn't taken a nose dive and if various other plot conveniences hasn't been taken, and if characters hadn't fundamentally altered who they were without build up, people would have forgiven the illogical travel time.
