Coloured Pencil Storage Drawers pt. 2
Need an idea to store your art supplies. In my last video, I made what I thought was the perfect coloured pencil storage. A machinists toolbox inspired stack of drawers. I asked viewers to tell me what they thought in the comments, and I made a major change. Is this the perfect way to store coloured pencils, water colour pencils, art supplies. I combined my love of woodworking and 3D printing to make this practical yet beautiful piece of furniture for my wife.

I have made these decorative plant cages or tree guards, not only to stop newly planted seedlings from being eaten by bug, but they are also useful to stop smaller perennial plants from being crushed by shorter lived annuals

Fixed My Coffee Machine For Twenty Cents With 3D Printing
Переглядів 196Рік тому
Instead of throwing away an otherwise perfectly functioning coffee machine, I was able to fix the broken part using OnShape and my Creality Ender 3 V2 for only 20 cents and less than an hour of my time. Is it worth getting a 3D printer? In my opinion, it can pay for itself quickly when you print quick fixes like this rather than replacing broken things, or even buying spare parts. For OnShape t...

Didn't test which is better as a conditioner, just that the colouring is all the same. Don't waste your time watching.
Thanks!
Thank you.. I have a real full grain leather bag. I ran out of Mink Oil but has a full Neatsfoot bottle. Do I need to do anything to switch conditioning products?
Firstly, Disclaimer, I'm no expert on this topic. What I can say is that if your Mink oil is the same brand as the one I used, it has neats foot oil in it. Based on that, the two should "mix", so neats foot may go on ok over "mink oil". Maybe test on a small spot first just to check. Thanks for watching, Good luck
@@preececraft4796 Thank you for quick response. It makes sense. I use Fiebing's Mink Oil Paste. Great work on your wife bag.
where can you get plans for the inserts?
Hi Ricky, I have uploaded the pencil trays to Thingiverse www.thingiverse.com/thing:6658922
Why do you say your neatsfoot oil ruined the wallet? Seems like it made it real soft and pliable.
It became quite slimy and didn’t seem to dry. Obviously I put too much on.
Your info doesn’t say what state you are in? Actually I was wondering how long it took to print the pencil drawers pieces, well a piece I suppose. I just watched the coffee machine repair and that was interesting. Its quite surprising to me, given the popularity of pencil work, that similar pencil storage isn’t available to buy, not even decent pencil drawers seem available.. Your effort is definitely the best I have ever seen and I have looked and looked.
Hi, thanks for watching and for your comments. I have a new 3D printer since I made these, so they probably used to take 10-12 hours each. However on newer printers maybe 3-4 each. If you have a printer and would like the files to print yourself, let me know.
@@preececraft4796 As much as I would love that skill, it is beyond me at this point but thanks for the offer!
That was interesting. Its quite a bit more inventive than I thought to design your own pieces for 3D printing.
Are you making any to sell? If so, May I order one from you? 🤗🤗
Are you after the entire thing or just the pencil inserts? If it’s just the pencil inserts, and you have access to 3D printing, I can upload the file so you can print them yourself. I would love to make more of the drawers, but shipping makes it impossible to do at a reasonable price.
@preececraft4796 i would love the file to print the inserts please 🙏 I would also love to buy one off the units off you but I'm in South aus so guess shipping would be huge.
From the amount of work he put into this, I think shipping would be a minor part.
I have uploaded the STL to Thingiverse. www.thingiverse.com/thing:6658922
glad i found this video instead of having to buy the products myself for testing. kudos
Glad it was helpful!
I think you have done a great job. There is just one thing which I hope you don't mind me saying. I think it would look better without the legs and with smaller castors as they wouldn't look so loud. That might be just my opinion though.
I agree… it’s a bit top heavy. Was more an access to the bottom drawer thing to raise it up a bit
Well, so beautiful! I hope you left the handle where it was. I think it is fine. I wish I had the ability to make one just like it but I would want a drawer for my neocolour crayons as well. Your wife is very fortunate to have such a capable handy husband!
I think the wallet looks fine but the rest especially the bag look terrible, you can see the brush marks. I doubt more sun will fix that. I would experiment with more oil and a heat gun to burn the color in. Actually I would just oil it and wipe it dry and use a mini spray gun with compressor to spray fiebings pro dye on it. an airbrush is too small. or use a cotton tshirt and wipe it on after mixing the dye with some oil, just a little bit of dye
Look at the ingredients on your "mink oil." It's NOT mink oil. Mink oil is expensive and it should not be cut with those other ingredients. You essentially tested neatsfoot oil twice.
Amazing experiment! Thank you!
Thank you! Cheers!
Neatsfoot oil is fine if you use "Pure" Neatsfoot oil. Don't use a blend , or prime type. Neatsfoot will only condition and soften the leather. It provides no waterproofing. If you want waterproofing, then let Neatsfoot fully dry for at least a day, then apply a beeswax balm of sorts. Some people will take a cup of Neatsfoot oil, and melt in a stick of beeswax to make their own conditioner and waterproofer in one.
Can you do the same to different colours of leather e.g red to make it darker red?
My experiment was on veg tan leather. I would think if it was veg tan with red dye it would get darker, but if it is chrome tan or coated, may not have the same effect
The neats foot and mink both look very watered down. Nears foot is usually very viscous, much like very thick cold waxy oil. It is also usually a yellow color. It will darken leather much more than what is evidenced in this video.
I believe both the products are blended, so probably not exactly the same as the traditional recipes
OMG, I love your leather bag. It is so beautiful.
Thank you 🙏
Which one was the best for softness??
I would say for softness was the neatsfoot , but is a fine line between enough and too much
Really Cool! Greetings from Arizona 🌵
Thank you! Cheers!
Right on👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
Just came from the previous video, it looks great!
Yay, thank you!
I'd add a couple grooves and more handles to the bottom, but otherwise you did a wonderful job!
Thanks… I see you’ve already seen the upgrade.
Love it -- it definitely looks even better this way!
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks fantastic! As if you planned it that way all along.😜
😁
I think adding the shadow lines would balance out the last drawer. You did a beautiful job on this.
Thank you… I think it’s unanimous, adding shadow lines…
Construction plans?
This is something I can look in to doing.
An actual pencil "case".
😂
Your wife is one lucky person to have you and your talent around!!!
Thanks Jackie, I have passed that message on to my wife 😂
How great project! '~'b
Glad you like it!
Great functional project! I with others, making the bottom larger drawer with one or two false front dados and extra handles would balance the look. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching… I have decided the false drawer fronts win. I intend to post a short video with the results…
Very nice! It's a great idea and you've employed some very inventive solutions!
Thank you very much!
Execellent project, and a nicely produced video, thank you for sharing. A second (and or third) handle would definitely improve the look of the bottom drawer! All the best
Thank you very much!
Great video I enjoyed the re-enactment very funny. I would be inclined to add a groove and make the bottom draw look like two for balance
Glad you enjoyed the video. It’s about 50:50 on people saying to add the groove/s or not.
I would love a pencil box like that. Definitely put a couple of groves and extra handles. So,so jealous of your wife. Why can't my husband make me one..😀😀😀
Glad you like it. I keep telling my wife she’s lucky to have a husband that makes her things😂
Very nice, my daughter could use one of these. Maybe two more handels making a set of three evenly spaced. Might be no need for a shadow line even 🤷♂
That's a great idea!
This made me smile thanks -Keep doing what you love❤
Thanks for your kind words, that makes me smile
That’s so cool I want one now ❤
Thanks
That is such a cool thing
Thankyou
Wow! Your so smart!
Thanks! 😃
I can't believe you only got this amount of views and subscribers. You definitely deserve so much more! You just earned another one! :) Keep it up!
Thank you. I really only started posting regular videos a few months ago. I can honestly say I neglected the channel for a while. But thanks for the encouragement. Appreciate it.
Super👷👍
Thank you! Cheers!
What i really like is this is someone like me- who learns from youtube and tries to copy them and omg - watched part 2 and you did so brilliantly! I'm going to try! I love that you show the sander blowing in your face and all the unedited stuff - makes it more real!
Thanks for watching… good luck with yours
That is brilliant - I love your new tool rest!
Thanks for your kind comments. I think having a few different sizes of rest would be ideal if you’re going to make on your self. It works best if the rest is close to the work piece, and depending on the length of your work, you will need a shorter or longer rest to fit between the head and tail stocks…
These are gorgeous. What a great idea!
Thanks Cathy.
Fantastic follow up video!! Only one year late
Can’t believe you just watched it🤣 You should click the notification button so you can find out the day I upload these videos. 👍🏼
If mink oil eats leather then mink oil must eat minks too
It does make you wonder
Wow , Loved your video but I still don't know if it works? where is part two
Thanks for watching Jim. You can checkout episode 2 now
the question is, why is the hinge so unnecessarily designed in the first place
That is a good question, I was thinking the same, but enjoyed the challenge of making a replacement. Thanks for watching.
Good to see there are practical uses for 3D printing.
