Out of system, tough set, tight set, tripple block camped-out waiting for her, looks like she's trapped... goes to the left hand and deposits the ball between the block and the net the way you put mail in a mailbox-slit, then walks calmly away. And then, watch the ensuing chaos among the Arlington blockers, HAHA -- watch that part carefully, in slow-mo, because the ball literally bounces off of EACH blocker's torso, before being unsuccessfully swatted-at by the final victim. The Queen of the Court strutting her stuff. 😎😎

The spike was so fast, and at short-range, there's no time to react, just hope that it takes a friendly bounce off one of your body-parts. She understands the dangers/risks of playing that down-the-line defense, she's taken a few to the face, and took it like a champ every time. In addition, I like the way she gave Gibson and Kelly more swings, knowing TCU had this match in the bag. In fact, Gibson had more kills, and a higher hitting % than Parra, which may be a first in history, lol. Probably could have set the middle more, but maybe it was a good strategy to stay away from Arlington's 6'6" monster...

Incredible week for TCU!!! They are getting better with each match. Are they a contender to get the BIG XII Title? I think so. The stronger Parra, Gibson, and Sylvester get, the stronger the other players will get as well. Watching Ms. Kelly grow and improve has been a treat.

14:46 Jaylen Gibson. Out of System. Double-block ready and waiting... and she CRUSHES it inside the block, and well into the middle of the court. I tell u, Gibson has really impressed me over the past 2 seasons with her ability and improvement. And, not to take credit away from her, but being on the same team, and sharing a court with Parra... that's GOT to have accelerated ALL of TCU's players' growth in the game, in so many ways. After Sets 1 and 2, I was wondering about Kelly, if maybe the big-name UCLA opponent was affecting her confidence, but she REALLY turned it on in the 2nd half of the match... bringing her hitting % back to a respectable .269 after being around .000 after 2 sets, lol. But was really happy for her, that she could snap-back in a big way -- she has a certain hitting style I've come to appreciate -- aggressive, powerful, quick-to-the-ball (VERY important), seems to improvise well (hitting those high, mostly wrist-shots over the block, into the open court)... signs that she can be dynamic and flexible. Super win for TCU, and Queen of the Court, Melanie Parra~!! LOL.

When she says "it (Parra's spikes) just seems like it DROPS much more than other hitters" << Having been a vball fanatic and student for many years, I KNOW what she means. I experienced playing with a WIDE variety of young and older players (many Asian), and on rare occasions, I experienced hitters that had incredible BALL-MOVEMENT on their spikes. It was VERY cool, and kind of opened my eyes to the realization that there was yet ANOTHER LEVEL of skill that could be attained. This movement is achieved by having the ability to balance power vs arm-speed, combined with wrist-snap. It's an art, and really high-level skill, kind of like the ability to throw a wicked curveball. Your hand/wrist is very 'cupped', and, though you seem to be swinging hard/fast, you sort-of 'carress' the ball in that cupped hand, for as long as possible, which imparts wicked top-spin, while the ball is actually not travelling as fast as the swing-strength would suggest... get it?

The commentator is right about Gibson. You don't often see an opposite who can play 6-rotations and have her ball control. And every season, her passing/defense/court-smarts get better and better. Look at 9:01 -- this is an awesome pancake by Lily... clearly, 'out of system' now. But Gibson takes this ball and makes a PERFECT bump-set to Parra, resulting in a kill, of course -- a clean one at that. But THESE are the 'little things' that most people don't notice/realize which make a HUGE difference in a game that's neck-and-neck, back-and-forth. Most players in her situation would not have had the awareness or skill to deliver that kind of a 2nd ball.

I think TCU has a solid trio of outside hitters, with Parra as the ace. Gibson keeps getting better and better every season, and I like what I see from Kelly. Both of them are aggressive, smart, consistent, and can terminate the ball far better than I see from many Nebraska OH's. And, though their middles are 'acceptable', I think TCU needs to utilize the middle a bit more to keep the opposition honest, and guessing, and free-up the OH's for more 1-on-1's. Regardless, Parra is the GOAT, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY PARRA~! 💕💕
