Genesis #45 - Stolen Blessing (Part 1)
Big Idea: God does not bless His people because they are good. He blesses us because He is good. The blessing then becomes a catalyst for sanctification.
1. Isaac’s sin is that he rejects God’s plan and substitutes a worldly one. Genesis 27:1-4
a. “Old, eyes dim.” Isaac is aging and in failing health and he’s almost ready to die. He will now get his affairs in order but he does so badly.
b. “delicious game.” Isaac seeks final comfort from his rebellious firstborn son. God, however, sovereignly guides the outcome. Heb. 12:16-17
c. “That my soul may bless you before I die.” He intends to bestow his blessing - a formal oath of family favor - on Esau. This is in line with common expectation but against what God said in Gen. 25:23
2. Rebecca’s sin is that she schemes and deceives in an attempt to accomplish God’s plan. Genesis 27:5-17
a. The trouble with Rebekah’s plan is that it fails to seek God’s way to accomplish God’s plan and relies on deception. Deception is the preferred tactic of God’s enemy.
b. “Bring a curse upon myself and not a blessing.” Jacob hesitates but not apparently because the scheme is bad but because he’s afraid of getting caught.
c. Rebekah plans a disguise to bolster the illusion because there are stark differences between Jacob & Esau. However, recall that they are twins and likely share many similarities.
3. Jacob’s sin is that he accepts Rebekah’s plan and further compounds the deception. Genesis 27:18-29
a. “I am Esau.” Deception devalues ourselves and others. It says ‘We do not trust you with the truth.’
b. “The Lord your God granted me success.” Invoking God in defense of your deception is grievous.
c. “Blessed him.” The ends do not justify the means. The fallout of this is that this family will be fractured for about twenty years.
Questions for Reflection
1. Where have you been tempted to succumb to worldly expectation instead of what God has clearly decreed?
2. In what ways do people today seek to serve God through godless means and thus fail?
3. Have you ever seen deception snowball out of control? What was the result?

At All Costs: We must maintain a close relationship with God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. It was God who sent Jesus into the world; this is how we have come to know Jesus. In turn, Jesus told us about God and His power and spirit; this is how we have come to know the Father. There is no such thing as one without the other, for they are one in agreement in spirit and truth. The Spirit belongs to God the Father alone, for all live unto Him (Luke 20:38). We must love, honor, and obey Jesus in all that we do for all eternity. We are to love God the Father with all our hearts, mind, and soul and serve Him only (Luke 4:8). In truth, it is not possible to preach one without the other, for by them both we must know them both.

The Book of Revelation is a story about a Mother/Woman and the 7 Churches of Asia..The Book of Revelation was written by John together with Mary , John adopted Mary as his mother, instructed by Jesus while hanging on the cross(John 29:25-29)..The Book of Revelation is about the 7 Churches of Asia & Mary of Magdala(as in Maguindanao, Magus, Magi & Marianas trench) (Mathew 26:13, Mathew 12:42, Rev 12:14)..The island of Patmos with P as in Pateo & Promise ..The Land of so many Promises & Romances since Creation is Maguindanao.
