Переглядів 1,5 тис.13 років тому
FOVC (Friends of Orphans & Vulnerable Children) is committed to helping the villages of Shanto, Dale & Borecha become self-sufficient. This is the story of our June 2011 trip. 13 people went to help, and gained more than they could have imagined.
Leaving Shanto

Leaving was so difficult. It was so quiet, and almost everyone was crying. It's so amazing how much our hearts grew just being in Shanto for 5 days. We really miss all of you! (Children, FOVC staff, the people in the village, and our team members)

freighter passing by at Neebish Beach phenomenon
Переглядів 5 млн14 років тому
This 'phenomenon' is actually caused by the Venturi Effect: wrangellnarrowsdotcom.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/figure-3.jpg It is not a wake, nor is it displacement. Neebish Island is a very small island on the St. Mary's Sriver halfway between Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and Lake Huron. I don't know what type of boat the yellow one is.

Crikey that's a big boat
Great video, thank you, love this stuff. 👍
Displacement and movement = power
The roar of those horns is something
It's called water displacement. Go read a book for Christ sakes!!😂
that is wild....

How does the water go DOWN when that huge ship is nearby? Seems it would go up?
7/24/2010... it's 7/10/2024 today
What if you anchored the boats a little off the beach or does it get too deep too fast?
Jumping the wake on skis from those is super fun.
That wave was terrible! So was the one the water made.
You're right that kid with the water wings was adorable😊😊😊
I don't get it.🤔 the way I understand water displacement as the mass of that ship passes by it should be pushing the water out and away from it. not sucking it off the shoreline.
It came up on my choices... Weird
People don't understand displacement that large ships make. It's been ongoing since humans taken to water. Nothing new here.
Tsunami Effect
What time in the past when men and women worked together and knew exactly what to do
why is the water sucked out as ship is passing? I would think it would push water out towards shore. Maybe ship is creating a low pressure area with the increase in velocity next to hull?
Used to love to see them delivering to the Advance power station in Lake Charlevoix.
Excellent to witness, thanks for sharing
Looks exactly the same as here in Finland, the Kaunissaari island north point. But in the video the phenomenon is much less; I have seen a 27 foot boat lifted several yards ashore. First-timers get a rude awakening if not informed early enough to anchor the boat at least 20 yards away from the beach. No chance manually holding them, as the wave at waterline can be over 2 feet high and have great volume as the bottom rises so sharply just before shoreline. But it is almost uncanny how the view is so similar...
Amazing
That is the Presque Isle. A 1000ft Integrated Tug Barge freighter. The only one of her kind. The tug is purpose built for that barge and that barge only. A masterpeice in modern engineering. She is also a formidable ice breaker when she seperates from the barge.
I grew up in Presque isle maine
What point in the video is the Venturi effect? At 1:35 it's simply the wake off the boat.
Whatever floats your boat, I guess.
Dumb
Looks like the small beach near the Sugar Island ferry. If so was a great place for us as kids.
Crazy it affects the water level that much
grew up on boats since 07’-13’ and seeing this video being from 2010 really just warms my heart
The captain with the horn is just so wholesome
Really cool video 👏
The water is being pushed behind the ship by the props pushing it forward. This results in some water being sucked from the sides too, hence the water level lowers temporarily at the beach. As the tail end of the ship passes, all that water comes rushing back to shore. If the ship speed was slower, you'd have less of this effect.
This is a swell video
that was the presque isle a tug and barge combination it's the only barge that's a thousand feet in length
It's called a wake.
Awesome video 2010’s great
Its called water displacement..
That was pretty cool. Never knew that sort of thing happened but it looks likes the locals sure do!!!
Where is "Neebish" beach??. You all need to be more specific in these videos. I am in New Jersey, U.S.A. !
That's pretty cool! Thanks for sharing!
Seeing this brings back childhood memories.
Mind blown! I've seen this video before (and others like it, too), but I just cannot comprehend the physics of this. But, then again, I was never smart enough to take physics.
That yellow deep V is sweet. Brand ?
This is exactly how a tsunami works; just on a smaller scale. I have no idea how it actually happens, but it's interesting to see a scaled down and safer version.
This is common in Galveston bay here in Texas. There a videos of people surfing ship wakes for miles
Why the fuck was this recommended to me
Because deep down in your subconsciousness, you've fantasized about this since your childhood. .......and it finally happened for you.
@@csrboltfan2643 yeah ok.weirdo
Wow had no idea they sucked the water out like that! Crazy!
This same thing happens where we duck hunt when the barges go by
Obviously they've never seen an ocean.
