Trip out to Horseshoe Pass on my Suzuki GSX 1250FA. Bit of drone footage, apologies for the poor audio in places, really need to invest in a microphone where it can be put near the exhaust for better sound.

My old bike.... Sweet...
I think it should be hats off to the camper van at the top
Hi, are you allowed to ride a road legal bike down this lane? Cheers
@@jaymccarthy3713 hi mate, yeah it's a fully legal green lane so no issue as long as a fully road legal bike
@@bikesoul2021 Ahh that’s good too know, It’s not far from me and I rode down that lane last week but got many dirty looks and someone trying to take pictures of me so it just had me thinking if I was in the wrong, I was trying my hardest to look out for a no motorbike sign haha. Thanks for your reply and good videos!
am sat here giggling, I have the same conversation in my helmet to myself and I have ridden it several times including last week. The hole is still in the road where a van drove over my bike in 2007 at the bottom of the hill.
me and my uncle did this pillion on a suzuki GSX-S 1000 the other way round which is even more terrifying 😂
Me and my friends did it the other day and went the opposite way to you and omg what a experience. On video you can't tell how steep it is but believe me it is .
Been there, done that. Every year for the last 30. I love "Oh shit corner"!
Very well done Ash
I always looked at this bike. I looks very traditional in a way. Overall a great machine. The torque is amazing on this one. Just got the Bandit 650 as my second bike and I am happy with it, but still looking at this one. Great review bro. Thanks for sharing. Drop by to check my content. You may like it. Cheers.
Holy Moly 😂😂
You lost me at "you don't always have to filter to the front of the traffic". That is simply, objectively, untrue.
Bof petit joueur 😂😂
Done it that way twice now... both times really wet and first time on my Hayabusa, it was Interesting to say the least.... That hair Pin certainly makes you focus !!! Nice Video mate.
if you're going up you have got the right of way because he can hold coming down which you can not because you're coming up
It's a lovely road and awesome to see it from a biker's perspective. That hairpin at 18mins is always underestimated. Congrats to all bikers who do it, especially without an engine!
Booked on this for May. Me and a mate. Looking forward to it. Great vid.
You will absolutely love it mate. A great place to ride. Hope to go back someday!
Love the sound of a 1250 Bandit pulling out with an open throttle. Music!
You do right stopping well in advance in a safeish spot if you see a car coming down. Saw a vid of a guy that met a car on a corner and he tried to put his feet down but couldn’t hold the weight of his bike on the camber.
Excellent choice of bike to use for Hardknott pass. Your comment @22:16 made me smile... Last year I accompanied my friend over Wrynose and Hardknott passes @biking-northwest on a Honda Cbr125R (who captured it on camera) and me on my 1997 Yamaha Yzf1000R. Recently, I have been seriously been thinking about taking my wife over the passes on the back, sometime this year. Take care and enjoy the ride. Best wishes from the Lone Wolf in the lakes. 🕊
"Wrynose Pass" - not "Win-nose"; (pronounce it like "Rhinos".) The name originated from "Wrenhaise Hill" which developed from "reini hala" being a combinaiton of the old Norse words: "reini" (stallion) and "hala" (ridge). "Hardknott Pass" - the name Hardknott originated again, from Old Norse being the combination of "hartr" (hard) and "knutr" (craggy hill).
Thank you for sharing, amazing scenery.
what tires were you using?
There where pilot road 4s at the time. Great tyre
That is one hell of a road I think I’ll give it a miss though till I’m used to new bike.
You ride like a novice.
Not bad video but shame about your language, suggest you make silent videos from now on in.
Sorry, mum.
Really enjoyed the video & commentary like to do that hardknott pass myself on my NC 750X.thanks mate.
some of those narrow roads are really treacherous. You can’t get any rhythm at all. A sport bike would be the last type of bike I would want to be on, on some of those roads. I think an Africa twin would be better suited to those rough roads, but a trials bike might be the best. Great scenery though. What country are these roads in? I noticed you’re riding on the left..
Loving your description going through that tight hairpin 😂 but seriously… well done 👍🏻 It’s still on my bucket list!
Wry nose not Winnose
Im in the process of selling my 2019 R1200GSA. Im looking at getting one of these as a cheap commuter. They're great bikes.
Absolutely doesn't get much better for the money
You should come to Portugal and drive from Manteigas to Seia in Serra da Estrela to check what really is a hard mountain pass... Anyway, nice video 👍🙂🇵🇹
Really don't understand the fuss some motorcyclist are making about Hardknot Pass, did it on a Lambretta GP200 in 1972 and a Suzuki GT380 in 1975, really not that difficult or scary.
That Line of diesel on the road is pretty annoying for you....!
it's pronounced, "Rinos Pass" Wrynose pass as in rhinoceros. You picked a blooming beautiful day to do it :) nice one.
I also had the feeling of being a bobble-head on a tall and powerful bike. Added a lowered Corban seat and rear suspension lowering bar (both from Dale Walker) and made an amazing difference... before felt like my CG balanced on the bikes CG... now it feels like one CG rolling in and out of corners.
My gearbox was terrible... whole bike shook puting it in first gear. Put in Mobil 1 Racing 4T oil and after one ride everything was sorted out. 1st is still a solid engagement but does not make the whole bike jerk like the engine seized up. On the road, sometimes just putting my foot under the gear shift ready to change gears and the bike smoothly up shifts before i have time for the clutch. Tried other fancy high advertised oils and they don't work for the Bandit. Its also what Dale Walker recommends if you ask him.
Can you specify which auto parts store has that oil, I know Walmart doesn’t have any in 10W-40 did you use the same 10w40 or went with new viscosity thickness?
@@BIKELIFEAP the Walmarts in my area carry it... sometimes only a few on the very top shelf but its there. Was in an O`Reilly one time dropping off some oil for recycle and they had some on sale. Afaik the Mobil Racing 4T motor cycle oil only comes in 10W-40 (There is a heavier wt that you do not need - it is for V-twins with the rear cylinder that receives less cooling). The oil change interval in the manual is 3500 miles. However I change before that, probably around 2500 to 3000. This oil has three jobs - engine, transmision, and clutch. Towards the end of the oil life you notice the shifts are now longer as quite as smooth. The bike is trying to tell you when the oil needs changing, so be listening.
that comments while going down :) When I was driving there it was a bit greener: ua-cam.com/video/S8TqkayUS2E/v-deo.html&ab_channel=PimvanDongen
Obviously.
Para mi la mejor moto del mercado , es mi sueño
That bit at 14.10 really showed the gradient and your commentary really made me laugh! Brilliant mate.
Well done, man. I've driven over several times in a car and to be honest I've never really understood what all the fuss was about, even though I was a biker for 15 years or so, but it looks a hell of a lot tougher on a bike. Biggest problems I found were people not pulling over that were coming the other way - those of you who are going to have a go, remember if you're going downhill you're supposed to stop, you don't want to risk of the guy going uphill rolling back. Road surfaces are dodgy, be careful of potholes and missing chunks of road at the edges, especially on bends, and don't risk it if you don't have a decently powerful, well maintained car because you'll be putting it under a lot of strain that it's not used to. If you haven't don't risk it. I did see a 1 ltr VW Polo with a burnt out clutch once, but there were about 7 people in it. I'll leave it to you to imagine where they were from, but you'd probably be right. I've also seen a couple of EVS struggling which seemed a bit off as I thought they had a lot of torque? And sheep will keep out of your way but cows do have a tendency to wander in front of you. Luckily you don't see many. And finally, of you have done the first bit (Wrynose) and don't fancy the harder Hardknott pass, go left instead of right at the Eskdale signpost, down the right side of the (farmhouse?). It's a long flat run, goes on for quite a good few miles but you see even less cars so it's a really pleasant run and a good alternative. Where were you on the video just after the 30 minute mark? The part with the lake on the right and the mountains in the distance ahead? That's one of the best views I've seen from the road, in a county that's full of amazing views. And by the way guys, let the bikers through, they can't hold the machine on a steep hill easily if they need to stop, you don't have that problem in a car.
Can only hope that the white car?, Was a Rimac with a very very good Driver, to lose a 1250.
You were lucky. No oncoming traffic on the inclines. In the Alps, uphill has right of way. In GB you don't know that. Nice Video. I was there in 1982 or 83. With my Beemer and girlfriend. . .
Never actually driven up Honister, I live in Lancashire, so the natural route leads me downhill.
That first bend on the descent from Hard Knott always gives me a buzz lol
In the valley , Wyrnose Bottom, is the 3 shire stone .. it marked where the 3 counties of Lancashire, Cumberland and Westmorland used to meet. Yes, Lancashire was much bigger once upon a time!
The number of A- holes who don't understand you ALWAYS give way to uphill traffic astounds me! love those passes!
...though etiquette would expect uphill cars to allow downhill motorcycles and pedal cycles to pass, since some of the inclines, on Hardknott especially, would leave downhill motorcyclists almost facing down to the road when giving way to oncoming cars travelling uphill: it's difficult to stop for any length of time in that situation without coming off!
@@DaveBartlett they can stop and dismount... gravity and clutches have to be the consideration.
@@DaveBartlett Certainly not. You always give way for uphill traffic. Your etiquette seems flawed. I have met Brits like you in the Alps. You cause a lot of problems. Please stay at home until you are properly educated.
Years ago I was on a European tour riding in the alps maritime amazed at the competence or madness of the foreign adv bikes absolutely caning me on my fjr1300. Every hairpin up or down was a scary experience until one day me and my group were talking to some Italians and the subject got round to bike control on these short sharp turns with horrendous drop offs. Since their advice I have never had a problem. Their method they told me of is trail braking. ( feathering rear brake as you ride. So on wobbly bends you apply the rear brake just enough for it to tie the suspension up and you have the brake applied throughout the bends at the same time as some slight throttle) try it -it really works and practice it on slow manoeuvres around the car park with a nd without the brake on and see the control difference then learn it as a skill. It takes practice to feel you have it right. Its also great for high speed bends when you are worried about judgment. Now as an aged old git riding a v strom650 and light and manoeuvrable and can do everything the big bikes can do imo but in a more manageable form.
I thought Devils staircase was mad midwales that what u did is a whole other level u get my sub
I ride Tholt-y-Will in the Isle of Man most days. There are a couple of such hairpins in close succession. After a while you just take them in your stride.
