Xavier, You have made my day! I am so happy that you are doing well and that you remember my books. Life is good! I retired, moved south and have started a new business with my son called BeachBowl.co. I wish out the best!

Ms hefele remember me? Jennovy Fuentes!
Hi Jennovy! Hope all is well with you!
Thank you for this great instant activity idea!
Great call and response transitions and ideas of how to start a year. I will definitely watch this again in July to refresh my memory. I do a lot of the same things you guys do with a few new ideas that I want to try out. :)
Do share! Would love to hear your ideas.
Lynn Hefele I meant to say a few of your ideas I want to try out. I do people to people also. Level 1 - they touch same to same body part "elbow to elbow, Level 2 - Elbow to Knee, etc (Focus is cooperation and communication with your partner to decide who does what.) Level 3 - Balance a medium or large ball between the body parts I call out. Level 4 - Balance the ball between body parts and move forward, backward, sideways.....At each level toward the end I let them choose their body parts and at Level 4 they have to figure out which balance combo is the easiest and hardest for them to do. In between challenges I guide them through social interactions to get to know each other. For example, if you are the elbow you have 30 seconds to tell your partner...... Wow, so many thoughts are flowing that maybe I should start up a blog and let this be my first topic. :)
I also have to apologize for the technical difficulties! The video that is missing can be found at Suggestions for a Common Core Friendly Gym. I will get it all right someday!!!!
My apologies to Joe McCarthy! I had a senior moment when I was talking about our virtual trip around the country with our Movbands.
Great conversation, Lynn & Lynn! I've spent the majority of my first couple weeks on what I call "procedural games" - activities involving starting & stopping on the signal (music), moving in personal & general space, making groups, finding partners, general "get to know you" icebreakers and then some cooperative/teambuilding with my older students. Practicing those routines and procedures aren't always my favorite thing to teach, but boy do they buy me lots of time later on in the year when transitions are smooth! I also agree that the last year of my teaching has really been elevated by the connections I've made via Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Hangouts, etc... So many passionate people out there willing to share their knowledge and experience only make us all better - which ultimately benefits our students! Thanks for posting your session to view. I enjoy listening to how other PE teachers do things in their classes.
I agree! If you don't put the time in early, you will be wasting time for the rest of the year trying to get control!
Another way to take attendance is to use a modified clip system. Have the students get a clip/note-card/etc in one location and move it to a second location. When everyone is done, the absent students will have their clips/note-card left in the original location.
Matthew Bassett Thanks Matthew, I might try it out.
