And now every pop star lip syncs to their backing track.
Id still wondering if snl didnt know then how did they get her song to play somebody had to do it
It was not really her band's fault... Not that they were really a band. This was actually an amazingly complex event from a psychological standpoint. I am not even sure what the correct response was. A real band would just go oops, wrong song and do the right one, but they would not be playing a vocal track. The jig was up, so Ash did a jig. Kinda fitting. They should have found an alternate. I bet her management did everything they could to force her up there.
J.low uses other women's voices and passes them as hers which is worse and she still has a "singing" career.
Its why she canceled her last tour nobody bought tickets. Shes a has been
She was never seen again after this
Super bowl halftime show disaster
Ultimately, she is responsible. Not the band. Not the drummer. If she couldn’t sing live due to throat nodules, she should have said NO.
Ooooooold Maaaaaan Riiiveeeeerrr… 🎶
😂😂😂😂
Why was this journo there? She just happened to be there making a documentary about live performances? In other words, it was all staged.
The reality is that EVERYTIME it came time for Ashlee to sing live .... there was some kind of illness or tragedy. If you watch her reality show the only time she is "sick" is right before concerts or recording sessions. Even on her show when they were recording her concert she is obviously singing to a track. The truth is that she wasn't a very good singer and her staff spent more time trying to cover her than she spent actually singing. Ashlee was handed a recording contract because of her sister. She cared more about her hair and clothes than the music and process of recording an album. I will admit it was entertaining watching her reality show back in the day because I could see how they edited the show around the fact that Ashlee couldn't really sing.
She tried to build a career around the fact that her sister is pretty. There is absolutely no other reason for her to be famous. 🤷♂️
I suppose it was somewhat of an incident at the time, but it was so overblown. I don’t care if she was talented or not. She was an eighteen year old kid. She didn’t deserve the hate and ridicule that she got for that. Her voice was shot, and she tried to lip sync. Really not that big of a deal.
2:09 3:05 liar. wow. nope. It wasn't the wrong song. She clearly was hearing it when it started and shows no signs that something is wrong UNTIL she doesn't come in on time with her singing. She just misjudged the # of bars b4 her vocal started and probably was in a kind of daydream state where too many thoughts were in her head and she was not in full concentration mode and she zoned out. Just for a second but that's all it took then instead of jumping in and stopping everyone and saying hey, guys, I have a bad throat and I didn't want to cancel... crank that song up again and let me at least lip sync if for you guys bam, she starts over, yes it isn't live BUT she at least has an excuse. This was just her forgetting to come in and making it look way worse.
No. The mix-up happened because the bass player began the correct song, but the drummer accidentally triggered the vocal track for Pieces of Me, a song they had performed just 30 minutes earlier in the show. Once the wrong track started playing, the band decided to go along with it to avoid a jarring sound. However, Ashlee was caught off guard, unsure how to proceed since they’d already performed that song and had no reason to repeat it.
@@umbertofederico6260 AND the pre-recorded vocals to that PREVIOUS tune just happened to trigger! No one had any idea! Vocals appearing from heaven while she's doing an idiot dance! Of COURSE it was the drummer's fault. No matter WHAT excuse she has, the reality is that she was lip syncing on a LIVE TV show and got caught. You would think when the MUSIC started on song 2, she'd immediately know that the music was not right and turn around and stop the band at that moment. Why does keep dancing if she's hearing music that already happened in song 1?
1:30 "Ashley Simpson is worried about losing her voice." She never had a voice to begin with. Check out her Orange Bowl "performance."
If this allegedly just resurfaced, then why is this video 4 years old? 🤔🤔🤔
Nobody said it has just resurfaced or anything like that😐
@@umbertofederico6260 I saw an article that did. Sorry should've referenced that. My bad. 😘
@@bobbieaustin5267 can you link it please? :)
If she owned her mistakes then her career would have been fine but she blamed her band and pointed fingers
Why did 60 Minutes just HAPPEN to be there?
Crazy to think that before this happened, there were people who actually liked this crap. Even crazier to think there are still people who like this crap, because it’s packaged differently. Every year or so. And they fall for it every time. Here’s what I’m suggesting: this music sucks. Lip synced. Live. In any language. Not because she got caught lip syncing…but because it’s inherently awful.
I do not agree. Your opinion is too destructive and unobjective. This was beautiful music, created by the best producers and composers in the industry with passion and dedication. Far from shoddy and still resonates with many listeners today, 20 years later.
I’m confused. So technically, the band did play the wrong song. They replayed “Pieces of Me”, which was the first song she sang on SNL that night. If they were supposed to play “Autobiography”, then she was correct, (at the end) saying that the band played the wrong song. (disregarding the fact that she was lip-synching) - if so, then why is everyone saying she threw her band under the bus? - Also, is it really the drummer that picks the backing track to be played? (live during the show) I would’ve thought, that is handled by an audio tech behind the control boards. (or whatever, the SNL sound engineer) - And I find it incredibly hard to believe, that Lauren claims he has no idea she was going to lip-synch 2:18) - whoever was responsible for playing the wrong backing track. The band should’ve known. They already played that song 30 minutes earlier than night. (so why did they play it again?) - If anything, they could’ve pulled an Elvis Costello, and stop the song, and played the correct song. - & BTW: I’m only watching this video tonight in 2024, because “Celebrity name that tune” TV show (tonight) one of the songs they played in first segment, was “Pieces of me”
The Guitarist to Her Right looks like He's trying to do the Splits, and Her bringing the Mic to Her face and stops half way like Her arm was pulled down , is iconic in lipcync fails🥵
She isn't a great singer...she has a unique tone and should have had some tea and sang live. I think she is very insecure about her voice probably because of her sister.
These losers deserve to lose, too!!
DAMN, I had forgotten that she blamed the band for this and then doubled down on post interviews that it was their fault. She had no integrity whatsoever. The talent would even be up for debate sans the lipsyncing.
Actually it was her band's fault. The drummer (who is a member of her band) mistakenly pressed the wrong button that caused the wrong track to be played.
That's what I call Lip Sinking
Well, fake is the shit 'nowadays"!
0:35 "Flying without a net" 🤔🤔🤔
Today lip syncing is so normal that no one actually sings live anymore lol
I want to hear from the band members...
Why am I confused 😭 the track has her singing the first 3 lines and then there’s no vocals. How would it have been lip-synching
because someone clearly muted her studio vocals but the damage was already done and she has been caught
"Uhmmmm...no."
This should be in a museum somewhere.
This was done in 2004? It looks like it’s from the 80’s lol
Pretty despicable how she immediately threw her band under the bus.
For some bizarre reason, Ashlee Simpson decided not to lip synch that night when the band started playing her second song. Even if it was the “wrong song”, she still could have lip synched, instead of dancing without singing, which exposed that she was lip synching.
It was too late. She was not in sync with the voice at the time it started. Even if she had lip synced correctly later, the audience would still have understood.
Turns out when you're given a nepotism record deal just because your sister is a pop star, it doesn't mean you actually have talent. When the smoke and mirror machines propping up your career start to malfunction, so do you.
I just came here from reading her reply to this in 2024 interview she just did, she blamed it on SNL for "forcing her to do it" and learned a lesson on saying NO to pushy ppl, then blamed old middle aged men for starting the harassment of her online, and also claimed "she woke up not able to speak and even had to write a letter explaining she couldn't talk at all to Lorne" funny she had zero problem closing the show with her little "band bad" speech, how millennial of her at 39 to still play victim even after getting caught, lol.
Back when people weren’t yet complacent about lip syncing… what happened. Peoples standards have lowered so much.
You know, I think what truly cost her career wasn't so much that she tried to get away with lip sinking on SNL, or that horrifyingly awkward little dance she did before walking off on live TV - but the fact that she tried to place all the blame for it on her band that had done it. That's what did it for me, at least. Humble accountability is apparently really hard for some folks.
Rewatching this and looking at how unhelpful the band was, literally just turned around and kept pretending to play
Good thing she blames the band for "playing the wrong song" at the end, very humble woman <3
Funny how ppl think lip syncing, on live performances, means an artist can't actually sing. There are several reasons why this is done, including the loss of voice, or fear of something going wrong.
Then oh i don’t know...ACTUALLY SING.
"I feel so bad my band started playing the wrong song"
Even if she didnt mess up, itd still sound horrendous 😂
Bro straight through her under the bus. I can guarantee as the producer he was the one that convinced her to lip sync 💀
60 minutes just happened to be there that week huh
After all these years, I still don't like how she blames the band
Get over it she was a 19-year-old teenager in one of the most pressing situations of her life
@@umbertofederico6260 oh well, can't handle the big leagues, stay home.
How lucky that 60 Minutes just happened to be there that week… lucky for us
