Make This Delicious Meal in Less Than 10 Minutes - You'll NEVER Believe What's in It!
Creamed Peas and Tuna Over Toast may be a familiar recipe to you, or it may not be. It may sound a bit strange to some, and will be very familiar to others.... but I grew up with this and loved it! It's easy to make and inexpensive, yet filling and also packed with protein and nutrients. I grew up with the understanding that this meal originated from England where my great-grandparents were from, but I have also heard people talk of how it came from the depression era since it was a cheap and filling meal. I suppose it could be true in both cases really. At any rate, it brings back great memories growing up with my grandmother and is one of my comfort foods. Here's how to make it:
Ingredients:
1 can albacore tuna (I prefer solid white packed in water)
2 cups milk
1 cup fresh or frozen peas
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
1/2 - 1 tsp coarse black pepper
salt (optional)
Toast

    It tastes a lot better if you make the dough from scratch and that's how it's originally made. Use coconut cream instead of milk and use 1/2 cup sugar. A full cup of sugar will make it too sweet. Don't crowd your buns or else most of the coconut cream will just sit on top and your buns will then be too dry 👍

    Also when shopping for coconut cream at the supermarket always shake the tin very well before buying it, because you will cut out one of your steps by mixing the coconut cream., always buy coconut cream where you can hear the coconut cream slotting around in the tin...😀😀😀😀 This is the best and thick coconut cream for making coconut rolls Kara Coconut Cream 1L they are yummy but bad for your hips 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    I come from a family with 13 kids (I am the 13th by a minute) and my mother made homemade bread daily, any left over the next day was toast for breakfast, on the rare times she had any left over after breakfast she would make this for lunch. Man it was so good. We didn't get it often, but we all loved it. Thanks for the recipe and thanks for the memories.

I'll just tell him to bugger off and make his own goodies then!! 🤣. I can't wait to try these!! I will wait until it's warm enough to open the windows in the house, since the ol' party pooper doesn't even like the smell of coconut.. but as soon as I'm able to, I'm definitely going to be making me some yummy goodness!! 😉

      Oh that's right! I forgot he hates coconut. :( I think I'm just wishing spring and summer were here already. We keep getting snow! Some places have already had 700 inches this year and buried homes and cabins. Anyway, I think that's why I'm on a coconut kick. hahha

    • @Stephanie_Clark
      @Stephanie_Clark Рік тому

      @@OfficialCookingwithMaryann I don't mind at all... Just means more goodies for me!! 🤣. Wow! That's a lot of snow!! I can't even imagine going through winter seasons like that. Ugh! I bet you are beyond ready for better weather! Ohio hasn't been bad. I can actually do winters like the one we've just had.. cold days and warmer days equaling out pretty much, and if we did get a couple inches, it melted off in a few days. It was pretty nice 🙂, but it was definitely muddy. We had 60+ wind gusts and 30+ sustained winds all day yesterday though. We've (along with a lot of other Ohioans) have been without electricity since 2pm yesterday. Living in the middle of nowhere that means no water or heat either 🙄. We need a wood burner!! It got down to 30⁰ outside last night (55⁰ in the house) and getting down to 40⁰ tonight.. but it only warmed up to 60⁰ inside today, so hopefully it doesn't drop too much colder in here than it did last night. Hopefully the electric comes back on tomorrow, because the temps the following day are 47⁰/28⁰.. been there done that before, and that's uncomfortable for sure.. but we'll survive LoL. The estimated time for restoration from the electric company is March 29 at 11pm... So I'm hoping that is just crazy talk 🤣🤣🤣. I'd still take all of this over snow though 🤣🤣🤣. IMO snow is only pretty in pictures 😉🤣. I don't know why I don't live in the equator somewhere 🤣.
