This was absolutely beautiful. It brought a tear to my eye and made me smile. I listen to it on my entire drive home from work, it was one of the best rides home from work. I’ve had in a long, long time. I’m gonna go home and learn this on the guitar.

Robert Rutland was a personal friend of my father. According to Rutland, one of his Grandfathers composed part of the melody. Robert also told my father that he composed another part and added to that melody leaving us with the impression that the melody was handed down through the Rutland family and that others in that family linage composed parts for the original melody. Robert also told us that Howdy Forrester added a part as a tribute to his very good friend, Robert Rutland (Georgia Slim). I love this tune. It's one of my favorites. My father played it on the mandolin.

Thanks a lot for your link, btw, Bobby playing the "Hot Canary" might be actually "The Canary" from Poliakin, at least a piece of it. The "Hot Canary" is a spin off of the original piece from Poliakin, a little simplified. I play the Poliakin with my friend Don Reinholm (Accordion).
