We have really missed rehearsing together and engaging with our audiences, so we have decided to create a series of videos, recorded in our own homes, of repertoire we were due to perform in concert in the coming days, weeks and months. Whilst it is not...

Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful 🌹
Tolles Leistung, vielen Dank, weiter so 🌞
No one has been able to beat the silky quality of J.E. Gardiner and the English Baroque Soloists' 1983 pioneering rendition of this incredible piece of music. And that's not all! They - along with the Monteverdi Choir - also performed incredibly masterful and sublime versions of Rameau's "les Fêtes d'Hébé" and of Handel's Semele around the same time (early 1980's) which were never made available on CD! Note: the studio (available on an Erato CD) version of Semele by the same crew is not on the same level.
Beautiful
What is the type of the flut?
A baroque one-keyed flute, also known as a traverso. This one's made out of grenadilla wood with (imitation?) ivory ornaments.
@@puntypunty8847 could one perform this song with an ordinary block flute that has a place to blow and accordingly easier to play?
@@kirsalyazilimci Yes, I myself play the recorder (blokfluit/Blockflöte) and also currently play this piece on a tenor recorder. To make it playable I transposed it from its original key of B minor to A minor. I'm sorry for the late reply, I hadn't gotten a notification of your message. If you're interested in my arrangement, I can send it to you if you want.
Coffee used to be so good that when offered a second cup, it became impossible to hold back tears of rapturous joy.
the flute player is pretty damn good too, one must mention
BRAVI~!
Came here from today's NYT Spelling Bee. I love discovering new things! Wonderful!
Divine voice!
Süß und erbauend wie ein guter Kaffee
I like how happy she looks after 3:20 when she drinks the coffee.

I definitely enjoy this version. Being a fan of the harpsichord this has more of a18th century feeling. Thank you very much.

I notice the dotted rhythms on the descending phrase of the melody---I do not find this in any other performance. I know that dotted rhythms were popular in baroque music. May I assume that the Ensemble Echos adopted them as a result of their research into authentic practices? They seem appropriate---but I don't know if I like the piece better with them or without them.
Hi Lorin. I think the "dotted rhythms" you speak of are actually the use of "inegalite". This word, literally translated as "unequal" was the standard interpretation for running quavers/semiquavers in France in the 17th and 18th centuries. Whilst they should not be played as strictly as a dotted rhythm, they should be played with a certain difference of weight between the 1st note and the 2nd note of each pair, creating this slightly lopsided rhythmic effect, which gives the music that certain stylish swing which was so characteristic of the dance music in France at this time. All the best, Maxim (violin).
It is the practice of that time period in France. It is correct.
Thanks for this question and the excellent explanation. I had also wondered, though I have found similar "inegalite" in other performances (e.g, Jordi Savall). The term "swing" is appropriate - as in jazz, too literal a rhythm can kill an essential feeling.
que bello, gracias!
Beautiful
Wonderful!
Lovely to hear my friends playing together at a distance! Really beautiful!
