I'm shocked to see so many significant finds lacking signs or information. The climate was considerably warmer during the Roman occupation.

Very interesting. I remember a little about the Cups Hotel and the massive hole for the basement floor of what was to become St. Nicholas House.

I sometimes wish I would go back and live like them for a day, then I remember they didn’t live like they did in movies. Then I swiftly reconsider 😭🤣

Thank you for this, Payrick. It's very interesting and I do think Colchester has an interesting history. I grew up there myself. I do hate the Roman so-called civilisation though. They were exceptionally cruel, enjoying watching people and animals being murdered, like the shitty Spanish with their torture and murder of bulls even now, and, as you say, not even considering babies and young children as "people" and just throwing their bodies into a hole in the ground. I remember reading, years ago, that one Roman , whose slave had given birth to his baby (as a result of rape, no doubt) threw the baby into a fire. They may have been good at making roads, building construction and underfloor heating, etc, but they were not civilised. I heard somewhere also that, while they were in a lot of places, there is very little of their DNA left now. I hope that's true.

Fascinating! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 An excellent documentary….thank you 😊👍👍 I grew up in Sudbury and visited Colchester in the 60/70‘s…I‘m glad to see that so much work had been done to preserve its heritage and so much knowledge has been discovered in the meantime. Cap off to all those archeologists, historians and council town planners involved! Congratulations to Colchester on becoming recently a “City“ aswell 😄😊

Nicely done. Roman's were good at rebuilding things. But better at destroying them. Lol. I could imagine being there watching the games how far we have come from swords to bats. From arrows to rifles. From shields to tanks. Lol. Seriously we actually thought we were civilized . These guys killed babies for silly reasons. Oh yea we do that still today. But we are civilized. Lol Sorry joking ofcourse. There work has been a world of construction for us. We advanced alot from the Roman's piling and mortaring stone.

Thank you for the fantastic and informative summary of the research at Roman Colchester. The surgical tools are intriguing. Have they been further analyzed? What evidence is there that they are anything other than Roman? Is there any evidence of Druids or native Britons having that level of medical sophistication? I will share your wonderful video with others on our site about Ancient Rome. Thank you, again.

Hello Patrick - thank you very much for this, it’s very informative. I didn’t realise how the new layout shows where Roman structures are situated underground? On my last visit to Colchester I went to the usual visible sites but now after viewing this, I will do as you suggested and read up on this so that on my next visit back home (I live in Canada), I will take some dedicated time to visit all of the Roman sites in Colchester. Thanks again!
