Barn Quilt Tutorial
Join me as I walk you through the steps of making this beautiful barn quilt design.
This is an indoor sign, so I used regular craft acrylic paint and modge podge. If you want to hang it outside, use outdoor paint and a good outdoor clear coat to protect it.

Beautiful
Love your background music
Can I buy this from you😭
Super lovely, you are real artist, i got a nice idea for my coming baby girl.
Invest in a wearable microphone, perhaps? Really is hard to hear. That said, I am using this to make my first pallet wood barn quilt!!
Thank you for your help. I was having issues figuring it out. This was very helpful! ❤️
Very helpful video thanks! Looks great!
Enjoyed your process so much! Beautiful result!
I'm amused that you call your blanks 'signs' and your finished pieces are 'barn quilts'. This makes two videos of yours that I have watched and I like what you are doing, since I'm doing the same. I was in the sign business for 30 years, and have been an artist all my life. My wife is a quilter, so I became fascinated with quilting and decided to incorporate that into my sign making experience. Like you, I find palette wood the perfect media for not only barn quilts, but all kinds of projects, and the scraps are used for kindling for our wood burning stove that we have had for 45 years. Keep doing what you are doing!
I wish I could have heard your instructions better. Heard the equipment very well. Just need to speak louder. This is the 3rd video I've seen where you can barely hear the instructions. Otherwise, very good.
I'm sorry about that. I'm trying to get better as I go long.
Whats the diameter of the circle ?
It was approximately 12".
Great looking ... what type / brand of paint do you use?
I use a mixture of different brands of craft acrylic paints.
❤Love this design! And the pallet wood base so great👍 what kind of paint do you use to paint your barn quilts? Do you hang them out in the weather or more inside?
I have only really made indoor barn quilts; although I am planning on making my first outside ones for my new barn. For the inside signs, I use craft acrylic paint. For the outside ones, I'll definitely use something made for outside and I'll put a really good outdoor clear coat on it.
Find out what brand of paint to use outside and what clear coat. I used oils and deft clear coat on saw blades and they faded and peeled with sun so I need help for I love to paint on metals and wood.
Thank you. I made a barn quilt but just not happy with it. I think it's too glossy, so I wanted to know if I could give it a distressed look, but didn't know how. You've helped me a lot!
This is wonderful!! I'm glad to help.
Thank you for posting this, you did great. As for negative comments from bitter and jealous viewers don’t dignify them by responding or apologizing. Good luck sweetie!
Thank you!
Love it!
I love this! Is the wood pallet board? How do you take apart the pallets? What kind of paint do you use?
I’m so sorry I didn’t reply sooner. I’ve been taking a break. It is pallet board. We use a pallet buster tool to take them apart. It works really well. I use craft acrylic paint.
I have always wanted to create a barn quilt and I finally brought some pallets home and broke them down this summer. I have watched numerous videos in painting barn quilts and I have found that yours is my favorite and I am definitely going to use your technique. I hope to sand and put together this weekend and paint as things dry. What I have not seen in any of the videos is how to hang them. Do you have a certain way you hang them? Would love to hear your solution. Thank you for your inspiration. I have subscribed and will check out your other videos. But, this really was the best.
Thank you Heather! This is very encouraging. I’m so sorry that I didn’t reply sooner. I’ve been taking a break from posting videos. To answer your question…I hang my larger signs with two d-ring hangers and wire.
We don’t want to listen to the sander. Please edit that out. Looks good though.
I’m so sorry about that! I’ll definitely take your advice if I begin doing videos again. I’ve been taking a break.
Beautiful, you’ve turned into a great teacher. I’ve learned a lot from you, I can’t wait to make this one.
Thank you so much!
I just love this!
Beautiful! I love how old, sentimental pieces can be brought back to life and I especially love this bed because it's functional too! You did a great job!
Thank you!
I was just sitting here painting my new thrift birds and came across your channel. 😁 I watch Julie’s Designs and signs all the time. I think your birds look great!
Thank you!
That’s really pretty! I’ve done a lot with chalk paint but never thought about using it this way. And the acrylic looks great! I don’t think anyone would ever be able to tell the difference with the way you applied the acrylic. Makes me want to head to the thrift store!
Beautiful!
This is GORGEOUS! And watching you paint is so soothing...I could just get lost in this video. You do such a great job with your videos!
Thank you Nicole! I really enjoy putting the videos together. Painting is my therapy.
That's so neat! I love it!
Great job mom!
These look great! I enjoyed your video, and thrift store finds are the best! I also love how you have them displayed. It all works so well together.
I love it!
