Are we holding onto hope; or is hope holding us? I ask because I think hope is a gift we are given; it is the love of God refusing to let us go; so are we holding onto hope; or are we being held by that hope created in us by God’s unending love? I often find that at those points when I can no longer hold onto hope that I discover; unexpectedly, that I am held in a love that, often at the times least expected, holds onto me. It is not that I am clinging to hope, but I am being held in a love that awakens hope in me where I least expect it. Thus, hope is a gift to me; often, as I said above, when I’m at the end of faith and can no longer hope; it is precisely there that I’m held and hope is born within me. I experience hope as one of the gifts of grace that comes often precisely at the point where I can no longer hope; the point where God’s love penetrates my inability to hope and holds me and awakens hope within me. I find it’s God’s love holding me that awakens my hope by, precisely as the bishop says, I am held in love. It is that love lifting me that creates hope within me when I can no longer hope; just when I can’t hold onto hope; God’s love holds onto me. Strange I know; but that’s my experience.

Um, not once did I hear her mention the Lord.

Love his coaching, love his approach in general, but I hate to say that it’s obvious his faith is in name only. I pray he takes it more seriously and digs in with whole heart.

Maybe he should stop cursing like a sailor. Not a good Christian witness.
