It's a tough question this one, especially since I've now been travelling for the last year. I try to stay in places for at least a month, even just for my own sanity of not having to move around so often, but it is something I think about often. How do you preserve the soul of a place that so many people flock to and ultimately destroy while still giving people the freedom and liberty to travel freely to see the places in the world they are interested in seeing (which I believe everyone should have the privilege of doing)? I dont know. you could make airbnb 1 month min. stay but nowadays you can rent 'airbnb' apartments through other apps aimed more towards hotels. so are you going to ban hotels too? local communities also take advantage of their own exploitation by hiking up prices and creating commerce aimed exclusively for tourists, slowly pricing out their own communities and effectively erasing little by little the essence of the place (local shops are replaced with souvenir shops, for example). It's not fulfilling for me to visit a place that has become a disneyland attraction, and it's not fair to the community who have their cultures erased, but the cycle of popularity>tourism>exploitation>degradation seems to repeat itself.
