Climbing, via ferrata, marmots and flowers in the Dolomites (South Tyrol)
Переглядів 1644 роки тому
Climbing, via ferrata, marmots and flowers in the Dolomites (South Tyrol). Spoiler alert - There’s no climbing scenes! It’s mainly rather tame views from the valleys and from summits. Lots of jaggy peaks - but perhaps too much shots of marmots and alpine flowers for some (not me). Video includes images from Catinaccio, Marmolada, Tre Cime, Tofana, Ampezzo and Misurina. My highlight was finally ...
Western Zaalaisky Range, Kyrgyzstan, Pamir - First Ascents

The Zaalaisky Range, which includes Peak Lenin (7,134m), forms a border between Kyrgyzstan in the north and Tadjikistan in the south. The Western Zaalaisky runs from the confluence of the Kyzylsu and Muksu rivers to the Ters-Agar Pass. Its highest point is Sat Peak (5,900m) and it contains many unclimbed summits of 4000-5000m. It’s a complex area of high glaciated summits, long valleys, many ri...

Climbing a snowy Rysy and Szpiglasowy Wierch in the High Tatras of Poland

From Morkie Oto, I climbed Szpiglasowy Wierch 2110m and then Rysy which are mountains in the crest of the High Tatras, lying on the border between Poland and Slovakia. I climbed the two highest of the three Rysy summits in late September following a surprisingly early heavy snowfall. The highest Rysy summit is 2,503 m (8,212 ft) and the north-western at 2,499 m (8,199 ft) which is the highest p...
Climbing in the Western At-Bashi Mountain range of Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan is rich in little-explored mountains. One example is the At Bashi, a beautiful range of snowy summits and technical rocky peaks near and parallel to the Chinese border. The objective of our expedition, which was organized by the International School of Mountaineering (ISM) and led by Adrian Nelhams, was to explore some of these unclimbed peaks in the western range, via an approach fr...

Island Peak aka Imja Tse is a bit more technical climbing and is in the heart of Everest region. I truly liked the genuinity of your video- a basic editing, no talking, letting the images speak for themselves. I would love to mountaineer in the Tien Shan. Let me ask you: did you use any different equipment from that which you would use on the Alps? Which books and maps did you rely on? Could you please give me a rough idea of the budget needed for this kind of expeditions? Above 5000 euros? Thank you a lot

I do ski tour but I didn't have my skis with me in Kosovo. I think it would be a superb ski ascent and descent for an experienced ski mountaineer, when in similar conditions. I think it could be skied all the way from bottom to top with kick steps where necessary.

+tripp k Thanks for your comment and question. Grade 1B is defined as: Easy ascent of a peak between 2000-5000 m over rocks, with sections of snow and ice or mixed ground. It's equivalent to European Alpine grade of F or PD. There's a good guide on grade comparison here- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grade_(climbing)

Much of it will be self-shot using smartphones and GoPro cameras or by people who have captured key events this winter. The Tyger BY WILLIAM BLAKE Tyger Tyger, burning bright, In the forests of the night; What immortal hand or eye, Could frame thy fearful symmetry? In what distant deeps or skies. Burnt the fire of thine eyes? On what wings dare he aspire? What the hand, dare seize the fire? And what shoulder, & what art, Could twist the sinews of thy heart? And when thy heart began to beat, What dread hand? & what dread feet? What the hammer? what the chain, In what furnace was thy brain? What the anvil? what dread grasp, Dare its deadly terrors clasp! When the stars threw down their spears And water'd heaven with their tears: Did he smile his work to see? Did he who made the Lamb make thee? Tyger Tyger burning bright, In the forests of the night: What immortal hand or eye, Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?
