Upgrading The Framework 13 and REUSING The Old Mainboard
The cooler master case actually is serving me as you read this! I am using it as a personal game server for friends and could see it being used for other applications as well.

Steam Deck OLED Limited Edition Unboxing & SSD Swap
Переглядів 2,8 тис.7 місяців тому
Still working with valve on claiming rewards, I definitely recommend the following steps. 1. Logging into the OLED deck once 2. Claiming rewards on OLED 3. Make sure SSD on previous deck is updated to Stable 3.5 3. Then start to SSD Swap Update After contacting Steam support, they were able to manually add the Steam deck oled rewards to my account, Cheers! Music: ua-cam.com/video/dm4oLeHN_qQ/v-...

Refurbishing a Razer Blade 15

The main two things I did were replace the battery as well as the display. I'm not overall proud of how it came out but it does seem to be cooler with new thermal paste and the internals cleaned out. Like I stated in the video I wouldn't recommend replacing the display as it can very easily lose its original shape. Music used: ua-cam.com/video/8iiQF3WaPeU/v-deo.html
Heh, the last laptop I used before Framework was a 3rd Gen Intel Lenovo Thinkpad which served me well. I appreciate what Framework stand for so I had to take the plunge!
Try contacting Support maybe
Thanks for sharing. I have mine ordered, and I can't wait. I think the self-repair option alone is worth the extra price. You can design and 3D print items too. You should switch to Linux, haha. I really want a larger trackpad and for the piece to be one solid unit like the 13, or at least have it as an option to buy.
When you say “it’s only rated for so many cycles” do you mean the interposer? Or what?
Yeah I believe the interposer was only rated for about 50 swaps, but I could be wrong here.
it's nice seeing an actual person doing this, not some internet celebrity who can call framework up to flop their cock every time a screw isn't coming out easy. excellent video
Great video thank you
Thank you for watching!

From which framework told you that they were sending a replacement framework 16 until you received your second framework 16, a long time passed? Did you have to send them your framework 16 first?
Oh man. Congrats on copping one of the best keyboards for the price. I woulda highly suggest getting better keycaps and switches though.
Any recommendations for both? 👀
The second the gpus get a little better in these, im in.
Totally get ya
From which framework told you that they were sending a replacement framework 16 until you received your second framework 16, a long time passed? Did you have to send them your framework 16 first?
@@user-wz1nr1ds5f I believe they sent the replacement laptop first, I used the box that it came in to send the defective one back. It took only around 3 days of emails to get them to issue a replacement! YMMV though
Have you reached out to their support team? I was shipped a bad mainboard and they sent me a replacement after a couple troubleshooting steps and the serial number. Super easy and didn't have to pay for anything.
Yup! I did, and it's all documented on my channel! haha :)
Did you replace it often? Interposer isn’t meant to withstand often changes, but it shouldn’t die THAT quickly…
Nope! It was literally the first time I swapped it, just to test my blank module. The replacement laptop seems to handle the swapping just fine so it's possible the laptop in batch 1 was just unlucky.
nice, I would probably just switch out the keycaps alltogether tho
I know.... me too but I don't wanna waste em' :/
@@AllenDev1 I didn't know they were more than half the price of the neo80. Just how it goes I guess. They do sound nice but also make the build look cheaper imo.
@@stefantanase6106 All fair points. I'll probably look into some other keycaps eventually 😆
nice, i got a neo65 and it was my first build too!
They are SO nice :)
audio level is way too low in this video, also mine tired to die on me too but i was able to fix it..
Are the fans very loud even when playing at 1080p and 60fps? above 35 db? What do you think of the framewoek? Worth?
Yeah, honestly any load you put on the PC with the DGPU involved- makes the fans pretty audible, probably above 35 db but not sure. I don't think the framework 16 is worth it at its current price point. Maybe the option with the IGPU would be better if you really want to support them and you're on a budget. Honestly you should only get one right now if you have the extra money and want to support framework.
@@AllenDev1 OK thanks. Did you return your frame 16? . I have read that many users are returning it, not because it is a good launch.
@@user-wz1nr1ds5f I didn't! I want to support them and ideally I am hoping for better graphics modules down the line. I'm rootin' for them :)
@@AllenDev1 It's a disappointment, I expected that at resolutions of 1080 p and 60 fps it would be less noisy...
@@user-wz1nr1ds5f Agreed :/
How did the framework laptop die? Like no power, or laptop overheat and fried the hardware? I’m interested in the laptop but kinda thinking of waiting to buy till gen 2 since they only semi fix the keyboard flex with foam pads. Those foam pads will have to be replace because they don’t hold form forever. It’s like back in the PlayStation 3 fat console era when the cpu heat sinks were hold into position by foam pads lol.😂. It made the heat sink unlevel to the cpu and lost cooling potential. Also how is thermal under regular work load with cpu and gpu?
It died when I swapped the gpu out to the blank module. I say die when really one of its main appeals, stopped working entirely. The GPU on it was not detected and did not work after the swap. Thermals on this seem fine under load, it definitely needs space to breath though.
Nice man, I know It’s gonna be awsome
thats a nice combo ma man! 12600k/3070/ddr5 6k! very nice. will last many years.
Right? not too hard on the wallet either! :D
Nice video man I'm seeing it entirely, keep it up, wish Framework got worldwide shipping
Love Framework and all it does is fantastic, following this brand and everything around it!
@@izkopzAppreciate it! Yeah I know they're still not selling all around the globe...but I think they'd need to grow their team significantly to support everyone globally. Theres probably way more but support is what framework will win in any day of the week. (In theory anyway)
for this and many reasons i'm still in doubt if i will ever purchase a framework laptop
Yeah, I did get the very first batch, and support is covering the replacement. Not concerned with it in the long-term :)
good to know they're helping you out, i just hope this company becomes bigger and better with time, i mean, they already are, but that's always better@@AllenDev1
Does their warranty cover that?
It does, they're sending a replacement laptop! I'm waiting for a tracking number and will update here when that arrives.
for as long as they stay in business...
Linus needs to see this! ;)
And that means?

Question: Do you absolutely have to take the screen off to take everything else off? Can you take everything else out without taking off the screen, leaving nothing but the screen and the front shell together? I want to have an atomic purple steam deck, but I dont want to take my screen off. I have a theory: buy a replacement screen from ifixit, and a front shell from extremerate or Jasaux, place the replacement screen in the extremerate or jasaux front case using adhesive supplied with the front cover, and simply move all internals to the new front shell without having to remove and possibly damage the screen.
I don't think this will work, as the frame of the deck has screws that are mounting it to the shell behind the screen unfortunately :/
@AllenDev1 I figured that. Thank you for the reply, I guess I may just have to bite the bullet and try to remove the screen.
@@damnedsaint5463Best advice I can give is to use plastic picks when prying the screen, and to go over each part of the screen slowly, when trying to separate the screen and adhesive.
Looking pretty good for a "Factory Seconds" laptop, you got a good deal!
I'm pretty sure the M on the SSD means it's a Micron SSD they're using. Nice videos, I came from the Framework laptop unboxings.
it'd be great if you did a blender test or like a small game to see what this laptop can do 👍
I was thinking about doing a follow up, I think I will get a video following up on this! Maybe on some basic games like Elden Ring, Apex, God of War, Rust etc. and then some basic benchmark programs.
@@AllenDev1 life saver , thanks
Lol, the Final Fantasy VII Aerith's theme in the background. Very nice~ Very soothing while watching your video, haha.
I like where Framework is going with this, they'll keep refining the product as they go along.
1000000000% Exactly!
Great video, I'm digging the background music too. Enjoy the new laptop!
The LTT deskpad, I'm digging it! :D
U are butchering that screen
No kidding ay? You live and learn though!

hey allen, allen here, sick video i appreciate
Can u upgrade dram to 32gb?
Possibly? Although personally, I don't see it being worth it here.
On their website they mention the outlet laptop having minor cosmetic issues like fine lines on the glossy screen that you can only see at certain angles. Did you notice any minor issues with your screen?
Honestly, I can't really see any cosmetic defects on it all. I think I may have gotten a new one instead XD
Where can I find the red steam deck holder that you used to rest the steam deck on?
It's 3-d printed actually, if you have a printer the file is here! www.printables.com/model/167283-steam-deck-repair-jig-fixed
Limited Edition OLED is such a hassle to replace the SSD, and it is challenging to pry off. Anyone attempting to do this should be cautious.
Sadly now that I decided to get one, Limited Edition are sold out 😢
Ah dang, I heard they were in stock for a while too :/ Sorry to hear that man, but I hear that they may make more colorways soon! So there might be something for you there.
I bought one the day before they sold out but now I'm anxious that I'll be getting a lower quality screen with all this BOE vs Samsung drama and dead pixel drama
I’m worried to swap my ssd over tbh the oled is so nice I’d hate to do anything to fuck it up. I’m also worried my ssd might fail at some point. It’s a 2tb wd sn740 I’ve used for a year in my lcd deck what you reckon man
Honestly, thats a tough one- to me I treated this limited edition deck as something that I'll keep (not planning to resell, ever) so any small nicks or small plastic imperfections won't bother me. It's the useful factor and memory part that matters. Will you be using this deck or keeping it for awhile? Make it better for your needs if you need to so you can have great memories with it :)
Oh it’ll be my deck forever. Well until a deck 2 lol. I worry about ssd lifetime health but tbh even with constant reading and writing it should last what 5 years? Thanks for the reply man great video
Nice nice steamed egg. Also, your background music classic game Zelda.❤
It nice see this but wish people would also use the part where you transfer the files into the enw SSD card, I owna old 512 and wanting t see how ti doen but no oen seem tp be doing that part only the swapping fo the ssd card. Still good video
I actually didn't have to transfer over anything, it was all basically removing the sd card + ssd from the old deck and physically installing them into the the OLED.
Yeah i know but for me I would have to do that if my first time just trying to understand how that is done@@AllenDev1
There’s videos showing that on UA-cam
@@AllenDev1You did something, You just updated to the last firmware and the oled reconized the ssd, i wanted to do the same but i sold the LCD Steam deck(i did not updated to the last firmware) now i Will need to delete all the files in the old SSD 2 tb.
You’re so lucky you didn’t break your micro sd.
You're telling me haha! I had a genuine scare when nothing was picked up when I first inserted it!
I guess pulling the ribbon cable up on the left is okay? Other videos are avoiding touching it as much as possible, but you just manhandled that sucker lol.
Yeah I figure that was the best route to go haha, I have no fear! until I break something! O_O but that's also the fun of it :)
Just realized I had comments disabled on all my videos O_O They should be available now :)
