Hi you mentioned an earth fault. I will cover this in my next video of my T16s restoration (Mark’s Mad Projects). There is a multiple earthing point on the front lower beam towards the lower right hand side of the inside of the radiator near the central front gearbox mounting. It’s prone to corrosion as there are several earth terminals and a main earth directly from the battery. This could be your issue? Hope this helps. 👍

Hi Mark thanks for the comment, yes I have read on the forums the earth straps are a weak point! It's going into a specialist tomorrow for a bit of work including a significant oil leak so will ask them to have a look. Thanks again for the input. James

@@jimmyscarclub Cos these Saabs (auto) were locked into reverse if I recall, the key went next to the gearbox if I recall, anyway it was fun for the summer until the kids (i the back) started complaining. Congratulations. Another one saved. I’m restoring a genuine 86 flat nose (square bumpers) T16s with the first styled Aero kit. As far as I know UK D/E reg was the last of the true 83-86 flatty’s. 1987 onwards Saab introduced the first of the newer style slopping headlights, front end and bumpers and a change to the gearbox mount. Yours seems to be the first of the later type.

Saw the Gitfire at a show last year, they made a nice job of it! They were asking a lot more than £5k then, around 12 IIRC.I built one myself back in the 80s with a 1500 Spit tub on a MKII GT6 rotoflex chassis. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Shadow bodies were mass built by Pressed Steel/Fisher, the first Roller NOT to be hand made! One tip, Shadow rear pads are £100 a set from dealers, but the same as MKIV Cortina front pads @ circa £15!

As soom as i see thing's like rappers wheels on something like that Herald i steer well clear, keep a car standard, anything with the mark of the chav will have lots of other issues Advice i was given by a skilled motor engineer, only buy a car that you can road test, to ensure that all the gears, brakes, suspemsion, steering and engine work, if its over 50 years old replace the complete wiring harness braking and fuel system Only buy a complete and original car, avoid anything customised , his words custom cars are worthless scrap And ensure you get as much provenance, manuals, spares etc included in the deal You would be surprised at how many sellers try to flog stuff by seperate negotiation His words tell them to stick it up their arse And make sure the original registration is included, you would be surprised at how many people sell a car but have already flogged the plate You lose the cars history, he said no orig reg or fitted with an unissued orkneys number, its scrap value only I took his advice , and avoided lots of wheeler dealer's, and housing estate crooks telling porkies After looking at over 30 cars i found the perfect one Still got it 30 years later and about to spend some money on it, as it owes me nothing now I have looked at a few cars for friends on ebay, but its full of bullshitters, liar's, con artist's and imbeciles Best bet to buy a classic, decide which car you want, join the owners club, attend a few meets and speak to owners, look at a few cars, the stick a wanted advert in the club mag, or choose a car sold through it, they rarely get sold online or at auction,

Is the first 145 an ex ambulance, I seem to recall something like them in the long didtant past, that scorpio's seats look like Laz-E-Boy ones, or that sofa the villain sat on in the Bond movie (Live and Let Die was it?), that gets suddenly inflated. I bet that Fiat shifts with a 1.9Turbo too. I had a V70 Turbo (not the T5), and it was a fantastic ride and just huge, took way more stuff than the Range Rover did, (around 2002 this was).

Those V70s are solid units, great value now and will go forever, always fancied the V70R they are rapid, the T5Rs are becoming a bit collector editions now and the price is reflective. No problems at all beyond routine servicing. I'm mostly not too fond of French cars, they seem deliberately designed to frustrate and injure mechanics! Another friend who is also a mechanic swears that every RHD French car has "Remember Waterloo" stamped on the underside! But SWMBO has an 06 Xsara Picasso 2.0 petrol auto (The MI16 engine) we've owned it since 2012 and it's been utterly reliable, if a tad thirsty. Was that a genuine Sunbeam Tiger? Very nice example. That Chevy with the caravan was awesome. 😮 That AC 427 would blow the hairs off your chest. Absolutely stunning! 😎 Love the Ford section, especially the MK1 Cortina which was the nicest shape in my opinion. I know this might shock you but the E Type never did anything for me. Oh wow that's a nice RX4. My dad worked on the early RX in Melbourne back in the early 70's. I would love a Spitfire and that orange one was a sweet looker. Nice couple of E46's there. 🧐 Those Skylines are something special and are fetching big money now, but a great affordable alternative would be the SX200 which are lovely also. Always love an early Aston. 😁That was a great show and thanks for sharing. Not sure any of those Cobras are genuine. I'd be surprised any owners would park them in a field.

Think it was genuine! Yeah Chevy was amazing the owner was a really genuine bloke, clearly had some skills to build/restore that. Yeah I think you are probably right about the Cobras, seeing a genuine in the flesh is probably fairly unlikely! E type is the future classic I will own, however I do feel like the saying never meet your heros, there may be a case of this when I eventually get one 🫣 yeah the RX4 was very unique, although not a huge fan of yellow! Yeah I think even those SX200s are rising in prices now, they used to be cheap as chips, but they are popular in the drift scene. I'm at penshurt this weekend should be a good one also!

I wonder if you could buy a normal sunbeam and fit it out to car#1 would it be worth what Tigers now go for? Probably not but the satisfaction of built not bought would make up for it. Love a Sunbeam me. (Not a Chrysler/Talbot Sunbeam (although the 250hp Lotus variant rallied by Tony Pond could be acceptable), btw). Was that Cortina not a Granada? DynoRod van colour LOL Both Cobras looks like Daxes, was in one once in docklands in the wet. Impossible to drive, even with a feather touch on the loud pedal it would spin. That yellow Mazda, wow. 3000 GTO, walked [ast one when I lived in Kilburn (in the main dealers on Shoot Up Hill), they didn't shift it in 6 months, sad really, they're underlooked. Don’t buy that Range Rover. It’s an absolute shitter. I’ve seen it in person at various shows. It’s a polished turd. Lots of bodged welding underneath, bits of welding wire hanging off of dreadful welds etc. You can see the rot holes in the bulkhead in the photos. It shouldn’t have the MOT that’s on it. @@jimmyscarclub Yes. These in particular are very good at looking great on the surface, but being absolutely awful underneath. Most of the body panels are aluminium, bolted to a steel shell. The shell rots out underneath the aluminium panels, so although the car may look ok, it really isn’t. I purchased one last year for parts, I got it running. Runs very nice, looks half decent outside, however the sills were so bad they completely fell off, the bulkhead is shot etc.

Sadly I can see the government scrapping the classic car exemption benefits as they just simply want to spoil our enjoyment. Then the classic car market will simply crash. That will be a sad day and the final nail in the coffin for car enthusiasts like us. The powers to be just simply want cars off the road.

Even if they put the VED back on (which a labour govt might well do) I'll still keep driving classics, as I already have them as daily drivers the thing about little use doesn't really apply to me, I do around 8k a year split between 3 cars. And I believe running those is more environmentally friendly than buying some new electric fridge on wheels!

ANYTHING with a Volvo badge will make a great and reliable car for daily use. From a PV to a Turbo Brick. But yes the Amazon is the BOSS! Wish i'd never sold mine, a 64 LHD (french market) 122S estate which I owned longer than any other car i've ever owned (1982 - 2011) I did well over 100,000 miles in it, used it as a mobile workshop, picked my newborn kids up from hospital in it, towed many, often heavier, cars on an 18ft trailer all over the country with it. Simply sublime car and the best £100 I ever spent in my life.

Love the Moggy as I'm a 50's car styling fanatic, Merc is boring looking as it looks like a brick with a chamfered corner, BMW E30 is nice enough but I prefer the E46 myself. The XKR is a nice car if you have deep pockets to run it, but my personal choice has got to be the Stag all day long. For me it's all about the stylish looks of a car rather than outright power. Most classic cars in my dream list would be relatively low powered but have oozes of style and they would be from the 50's to 60's. The stags styling would be from the late 60's and designed by an Italian, which is why I love it.😊

The 356 speedster replica is the one for me, as they are such an iconic design. There's some amazing kits out there and I found one built on the Boxster, which is basically a body swap with upgrades. The other is the AC 289 slim body, which is less well known than the 427 Cobra. Keep up the good work.😊

Pretty much agree on all those and the MKI Focus is the cream of the crop. Don't fancy the 7 series The 4.0 and 4.4 V8s, I've seen too many with external conrods for comfort and what's with that slammed suspension? It'll ride like a plank! TVRs are widowmakers, they have far too much power for the brakes and suspension. You have to treat them with respect or they WILL kill you! Doesn't stop me liking them, but I wouldn't OWN another TVR. Build quality is poor to absent, trim fit, negligible, electrics iffy (for the same reason as the Scimitar) For a lot less you can have a V8 converted TR7, a very undervalued car ATM. Quite like the uprated 205 but £3k is too much, an original 1.9GTi in that condition, yeah sure, but that mongrel? £1500 in my book! Personal taste I know, but I really LIKE that bonnet with all the louvres!

You couldn't find a Cobra? Seriously? Out of that motley collection I'd have the Porker, a) because it's the most faithful replica and b) because I hate Ferraris and wouldn't own one if I could afford to. There's something wrong with the proportions of the Zagato rep which only leaves the Porsche. Always fancied a Cobra though and a rep is the ONLY way into Cobras for non-millionaires like me! Preferably a Dax Tojiero but anything except a pinto powered Pilgrim Sumo would do! If you want a truly horrifying replica, look for the one that makes an Aston DBS convertible type thing from a dead Capri! A mate did one years ago and it was AWFUL!

P5b's are my personal favourite Rover ever and that example is sweet. That Lagonda had a very advanced engine for its day. 2.0 litre was very small for those days and having a supercharger must have given it a great sound. French cars have always been clever and innovative with their designs and the Pallas was incredible for its time. That Comet is something else. Never seen one before but it looks a bit like a Ford Galaxy crossed with a Fairlane. It closely resembles an Australian Fairlane. Interesting choice of cars. 👌

  • @stephenboitoult8774
    @stephenboitoult8774 Місяць тому

The stag V8 was NOT derived from the slant, it was the other way round! It had all the problems you describe but the biggest cause was poor production quality of the sandcast cylinder blocks which left residual sand in there during production with predictable results! Most of the early issues can now be solved and the stock 3 litre is making a bit of a resurgence. The unique exhaust note is the result of a different firing order to the 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 which is the most common used in US V8s. However, I can testify that the Rover V8 conversion is a much more practical, powerful and reliable option for a car that is used regularly. Thy are also considerably cheaper to buy ready converted. Even if the Stag owners club will disown you! Especially if yours is a sub 1000 chassis number! The Moggy tail lights and front sidelights are incorrect for a 64 car could be an update or it could be a ringer, buyer beware!

@@jimmyscarclub You may be interested to know that the V8 derived slant 4, developed in the late 60s by Triumph wasn't a new idea, Pontiac produced a similar motor in circa 1963 by cutting a 389cu in OHV V8 in half (though Pontiac used the right bank rather than Triumph's left bank, probably , in both cases, because of drive side compatibilty) It didn't sell all that well, it had balance and reliability issues and faded into obscurity. It was out of production before Triumph launched their version in 72. I've been modifying and tuning cars for more than 50 years, my skin is rhinocerous thick. The rivet counters don't bother me!
