PANTIBAR: MEN AT WORK
As an early Christmas present, some of our handsome barmen decided to get out from behind the bar, oil each other up, and get to work. Thanks Pepe, Ricki, Pakito, Elton, Rafael, Bruno, and Victor.
Pantibar, Capel Street, Dublin, Ireland.

I think your words saved people's lives, the sense of being embarressd by being gay is still so real, why do we still have to come out and allow others to determine our worth ?

It’s an incredible speech and delivered with such honesty, and strength within the pain of those experiences. Although not gay, I can relate to the feeling of being different and trying to hide myself in public that when she spoke of the feelings of self hatred when trying to “check myself” for any “gayness”, it reminded me of my own behaviour. A speech like that doesn’t come about very often. It’s through years of serious hurt and the constant indignity of people telling you who you should be instead of being loved for who you are. His observations on how people discuss gay people also made realise how unfair and wrong it is. Go Panti Bliss! 🖤👏✨

It's lovely, but difficult to watch this when I can identify. I never have issues now, but when younger was different. Had coke bottles and gay slurs thrown at me at the crossings. It doesn't leave you.

I liked this guy when I first heard him speak. Now, however, I see him for the ignorant, mysogenistic, men's rights activist that he is. Women matter too, and they deserve spaces of their own, away from males of all kinds.

I admire Rory O'Neill for this and for all his intersectional activism. 8 years later you still can relate to his words, the only difference is that we have partially enacted marriage equality (many parents still having problems with their full recognition). If you are clever enough, you could change the type of hatred that he was trying to explain and understand how the systems of oppression we perpetuate in society work: patriarchy, racism, classism, xenophobia, misogyny, etc. Let's keep fighting because there always be people who benefit from these systems of oppression and we must target them instead. We are more, way more.

All these years later, it still chokes my up to watch this. I identify with everything Panti said. Who would have thought, 8 years after this Marriage Equality would become the law of the land in the United States. More importantly, we are likely to lose all of our gains, due to an activist, alt-right, cis, straight, anti-LGBTQ, white supremacist SCOTUS.

How are we supposed to guess Panti was middle class? There is nothing about her that gives that impression to me. There is nothing that doesn't either. If its her accent, then to me, as lovely as her voice is, it doesnt sound any more refined that any other Irish accent to me. If its something else, then what am I missing?

Listening to you from Roscommon years after you made this speech its so sad to think people still make judgement after what has happened in Sligo for me as a gay man it's sad to think that this nonsense still exists across all age groups all I want is the freedom to live without being stigmatised for who I am the song Small-town boy says it all in my opinion I would like to thank you for this speech Share the love not the hate ❤

Dear Rory: thanks for this wonderful video, which reminds me of the days before the pandemic shut us all down. May this year's Panti Pride be bigger and more joyous than ever! You'll be getting invaded by my LGBTQIA friends from Tijuana in June. Tijuana Pride happens a week before Dublin Pride and we're all headed over together for a month. (I live 7 miles from the Mexican border with the U.S. and the open minded on both sides of the border see the ugly border fence as an affront and an assault to humanity.)

I am an "age-impaired" gay man and every single word of this speech has resonated with me so deeply I can't even begin to describe it. Resonated and cut. Thank you for saying these words. Seven years later, I still thank you.

I lived in Ireland when all of that happened and I was also lucky to have lived there still when you became the face of the fight for equal marriage in Ireland.
