How to Clean Ink Stains from Your Hat
How to Clean Ballpoint Ink Stains from Your Hat
Got an ink stain on your favourite hat? Don’t toss it away just yet! This step-by-step guide will show you how to quickly and effectively remove ink stains from your hat. Whether it’s a fitted hat, dad cap or snapback hat, you’ll learn how to keep your hat clean and looking like new.
What You’ll Need:
- Rubbing alcohol.
- White scrap cloths or towels.
- A pipette or a bottle with a nozzle top.
- Bowl or basin.
- Handwashing detergent.
- Sponge.
- Hat stand or towels (to reshape and air dry your hat)
Step-by-Step Instructions to Clean Ink Stains on Your Hat:
1. Test First:
Before starting, test rubbing alcohol on a hidden area of the hat, especially for coloured or delicate fabrics. This ensures there’s no discolouration or damage to the material.
2. Act Quickly:
Ink stains are easiest to remove when fresh. Start as soon as possible for the best results, as older stains may be harder to clean.
3. Apply Rubbing Alcohol:
- Place a clean white cloth underneath the stain to catch the ink as it lifts.
Flip the hat so the inside faces you and the stained area is accessible.
- Use a pipette or a nozzle bottle to apply rubbing alcohol to the back of the stain (the underside).
- Gently blot the area, allowing the ink to transfer onto the cloth beneath.
- Shift to a clean section of the cloth frequently to prevent re-staining the hat.
4. Repeat the Process:
Re-apply rubbing alcohol as needed, blotting and rotating the cloth until most or all of the ink is removed. Be patient, for larger stains, this step may take a little time.
5. Rinse and Wash:
- Rinse the treated area with cold water to remove any leftover rubbing alcohol.
- Hand wash the hat using a mild detergent and a sponge to refresh the fabric.
- Reshape the hat using a hat stand or towels and let it air dry.
Pro Tips for Cleaning Hats:
- Always use white cloths or towels to avoid accidental colour bleeding onto your hat.
- Avoid hot water, as it can further set the ink stain.
- If you’re dealing with an old or stubborn stain, repeating the process a few times can help lighten it.

Por favor si puedes dejar el link de los soportes que tienes para moldear las gorras sería de gran ayuda gracias 😊
Al final alguien consiguió un molde de esos??
Hey quick question how do you fix the indent in front of the hat?
You can use steam from a kettle or a hand steamer to ease it out. If it’s a tough one you may need to iron and starch it. I will do a video tutorial that covers these methods 👍🏽
I want this metal stretcher.
What would you do with a brim that had a sticker. The sticker is gone. But now you see the difference in color. Do you repaint it?
My brim is super flimsy what should I do?
Nice!!! 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I let my brims curve naturally or get a different shape
Which is why I scrub my forehead throughout the day with body wipes when using light colored sweat banded hats
Whoever signed off on white sweatbands?! 🤷🏽♀️
@ I say that bc you can get away with dirty black sweat bands it u can’t with white ones
Nah u snappin ngl
Cheers, this was a satisfying one!
How do I flatten the head like that with 59fifty hats cause I don’t like when it puffs out?
Stickers off

Take the stickers off and curve the peak.
How do you get a nice curve on the cap?
@@ThatWorrallBloke check out this video (if you don’t have a steamer use a kettle or a pan of boiling water: ua-cam.com/users/shortsh3g_STgUXaI?si=YG0wPf2rIcMGI7N1
Never understood buying something and keeping the label on once you've decided to keep it. Resale can be a living nightmare, with or without original tags, take it from a 10 year ebay seller.
Yeah, stickers don’t automatically mean authenticity either. Do you mainly sell hats? Day in the life content of a eBay hat seller would be super interesting!
@thecaptician nah I sell pedal bikes, components, pa equipment, amps, instruments, and old stereos. Easiest to sell is the PA stuff because there's always a need and it's bomb proof, hardest to sell is bikes by a mile. Because people looking on ebay are looking for a bargain, not a passion project.
As a 90’s kid from the UK I absolutely love this! Hardly see curved ducks anymore
Snap. Yeah it always goes in cycles. One thing is for sure, the debate to curve or not to curve…..stickers on or off will never be settled 😅
Who's bends theirs caps . Brum rock it properly.
Nothing beats a freshly curved brim 😮💨
Who wants a snapback with a curve spose to be straight
I can’t lie, a well rounded brim frames the face a lot nicer than a harsh flat one? 🤷🏽♀️
love the video!!! from uk !!!!

What kind of finish product you use?
I used The Captician hat protector spray, you can get it at thecaptician.com 👍🏽
keep making video plss 🤩
@@AMINE10000IQ Thanks for your kind words, will do 🙌🏽
Add and pantie liner along the band part and no make up will get on the cap.
What type of paint did you use? And is it durable? Like no runoff from wearing the hat?
I use Sneakart fabric paint. There is no need to heat cure it and it doesn’t contain formaldehyde ☠️. It’s the best paint I have used so far. I just needs to be diluted correctly.
What kind of spray is that?
It's The Captician stain remover 🧢✨
Hi maam. What do you call that wood to put the hat on to reshape it. Thank you in advance. ❤
What are the materials you use in the video?
Soap and water or what did you use to clean sweat and dirt stains?
Hey, I used The Captician Stain remover 👍🏽
Where i can buy that' molder or re-shaper what ever you call it???
It’s a vintage hat stand. We got this one from EBay 👍🏽
it's called "Freestanding wigs hat cap" or "Detachable hat cap display stand rack wigs"
What is that hat device called?
@@StayBlessed87 It’s a hat stretcher ✨
I never knew how fascinating watching a had being restored could be until now!
@@danduhlion Thank you, we will start posting long form restoration videos shortly. Would you prefer them with or without a voice explaining the process?
What detergent did you use
Daz hand washing powder detergent. Double check the fabric of your cap, this isn’t suitable for wool hats. You can buy wool safe liquid detergents like Woolite 👍🏽
Im still scared to clean it😅
@@blueberry0840 Na you got it 💪🏽
Hell nah, bought a whole new one foo
Where can one find a hat block like yours? I want to give my fitted caps a nice shape

Can I send you a metallica hat from the 80s? Its a trucker style but is super wrinkly and stiff… might shower with it on and see how that goes.

Did you use spray starch? I have been trying with normal starch and it leaves white spots 😢
Any chance you’ll release longer content in the future? I would love to see a detailed breakdown on each step and the products you use. The results are amazing!
@@HeBeWatchin Hey, yes I will be uploading longer videos shortly. I appreciate your comment, thanks 🙌🏽
I always wondered that.
Glad it helped, the hat wasn’t sacrificed in vain 😅
How hot is the steam iron
Wow
Thanks 👊🏽
I have an old had that had a sticker on the top of the brim. It has a circle where it was. Any advice to get rid of it?
@@AnonNotAnonymous Hey, is the circle residue from the sticker or is it darker than the surrounding fabric?
@thecaptician it's darker than the surrounding fabric. Looks like it that spot remained normal and the rest faded.
@@AnonNotAnonymousYeah, if you leave the sticker on, the rest of the fabric around it fades due to the sun. There isn’t a cleaner that will fix it, only re-dyeing the hat. Some people put the sticker on the under visor to prevent this. Sorry about that.
wtf is this witchcraft?
@@Trippy-Hatfitter Just the hat protector spray ✨
yo can u help me to clean my hat is a fitted nyc

Where did you get the metal hat blocker
We had it custom made ✨
Is it possible to bring back the original color or make the color look more vivid and brighter as if it was new?
Good question. Yes, you can re-dye or re-colour it. I will make a video on how to do it 👍🏽
Well I tell you what great reshaping
Thank you 🙏🏽
