Anthony Jackson playing "Not Yet" by Michel Camilo
In case anyone still questions the greatness of Anthony Jackson, this track will clear any doubts. The first time I heard this I had to have my jaw re-attached to my skull. This is "Not Yet" by the great Michel Camilo, as originally played on his debut CD as a band leader, the now rather hard-to-find "Why Not?", recorded in 1985. Granted, the more recent big band version of the same tune is now probably better known than this original version, yet to me, while the big band arrangement is impressive and beautifully played, it lacks the "cojones" from the original version. What you are about to hear makes me think Anthony Jackson must be superhuman. The bass track is a fast locomotive going downhill with no brakes! It is unstoppable!

A Tribute to Anthony Jackson - METRO
Переглядів 117 тис.16 років тому
Master contrabass guitarrist and pioneer Anthony Jackson is without a doubt one of the most important musicians to have played on the electric bass, or as he prefers to call it, the contrabass guitar. Here's a collection of Anthony Jackson pictures, together with the track titled "Grand Slam" from the METRO CD, which features an incredible Anthony Jackson bass line. It was truly hard to pick ju...
It’s an honour to play music with him.
Awesome job. I was in the Chior on this album, we had fun. The energy that was coming from sheray that night was like no other!! You are the truth! I actually did a gig with him last night in Chicago. Best wishes. You are awesome!
"The Great Anthony Jackson"
Wow.
It's certainly easier to appreciate his talent in this original version, but the big band one is my top#1 song of all times. The quality of all of it is unsurpassable.
Nice tribute to (as you said) one of the greatest bass payer ever !! Totally unique sound and langage. Thanks for that tribute !
Probably never hear a bass player weave in and out of tritones w/ such command again. Jackson owned every chord assigned to this track🤦🏾♂️💪🏾
The GOAT on bass guitar
🔥🔥🔥🎸

I had a chin strap specially made for me when watching Mr Jackson. It's cheaper than having my jaw re-attached.
so fast.
Anthony Jackson is the Bass GOAT! Incomparable 👌🏿❤️
My favourite bassist connecting soul funk era with new era. He is the jazz James Jamerson)
Modern-era J Jamerson. =)
@@mikajuola1816 yep,that's it)
Hi everyone ! my new drum cover is here =) ua-cam.com/video/ISnHiVK76v0/v-deo.html
My search on ‘new’ material with Anthony brought me here. Anyone know if he’s still working?
OMG. 4:31 Geostationary orbit setup...
Holy crappage.
The great Anthony Jackson has entered assisted living today, 10/14/19.
I know it's so sad but one thing is that even made a contribution to the world of music
the GOAT
...the rest of the band?
Who is on the drums?
this is what being on another level is like!!
Quem é esse batera, de mais uma paulera só, quebrando tudo.
Anthony Jackson man bad dude on the bass
Michael and Anthony.... Had this jewel in vinyl in '85 and now in CD. Always proud of Michael ("Mee-cha-el" for us Dominicans). Certainly he is a prophet in his own land.
This video is still inspiring me 7 years later!!
Great recording! - one of the best jazz albums I have heard.
Simply the finest bass player! So innovative! So humble! So unique! Its fair to mention most bass players sound almost alike, but no one sounds like Anthony Jackson. I am so inspired.
For The Love Of Money !!!!
We love you Anthony Jackson; out of this world, Thank you Michel Camilo for starting a family of top 'echelon' musicians. Cant help what a sad and empty professional music world it will be when this man Aj passes; His SOUND is so distinct, his playing, there is none in the business like it; We love you Aj .Massive 'axiomatic' Respect
I'm not sure that being old has many advantages. In my case, though, it has had a few, one being that I got to play keyboard along with Mr. Jackson, in a high school band. (I can't remember if he was a year behind me or not..) but whereas he went home and practiced his ass off........I didn't! And so, he got better and better.......and I got...a.....little.....better.......but.......nothing.......like......him.....and it took me a helluva lot longer. I do remember fondly, that he used to love to play a tune I had written called Jack the Ripper, and he would play the melody along with me. He was even damn good back when he was 16 or 17.
Friends with a true legend. I'm so envious!
He can't be that good he doesn't slap. Lol JUST KIDDING! Love the guys playing. Top 5 for me probably.
He has slapped on record before for Chaka Khan on the Watcha Gonna Do For Me album.
@@ParallelRealities The slap playing on that album was very likely performed by Mark Stevens and dubbed over AJ's playing.
It's great, Anthony
Wow
The first time I saw Anthony Jackson in a 1986 interview in Guitar Player Magazine, I knew I had to have a six string bass. Got my first one in 1998. Hard to go back to four string basses after you play a six string bass.
Exactly that interview and the interview with John Patitucci made me build myself a 6-string bass, still one of my main basses, besides my 6-string Tobias :-)
Contrabass Guitar*
Respect.
This sounds like bad video game music from the 80s
+allrequiredfields You sound like a fucking idiot from the 00's
+ANDYSAXTONDOTCOM could not have said it better
Agreed, it sounds like a Mario Kart ending, but more epic as any video game music can be ! There's no comparing
I was a big gamer, pls show me ONE PC game that had this kinda music, what could be measured for this... :D
Good god! AJ, the master, is taking us all to school.
just another jojo's reference

I find his work with Horacio Hernandez and Camillo more noticable. Also priceless facial expressions. Haha (Camillo's "On Fire" is an example of flawless drum/base/piano trio)
I saw this played live around 1988 in a now defunct little restaurant uptown Manhattan called Mickaell's (not spelled right) with AJ on bass & DW on drums... I am still recovering from that night... I went home and put a For Sale sign on my tubs
Indeed. I lived in the village (beneath the restaurant at 29 Cornelia St.) in the mid-80s, about a block away from 55 Bar and 3 blocks from 7th Ave South (Michael Brecker's club). I got to see him quite often, and he's more other-worldy...in-person. Flawlessly getting back to his signature, downbeat-oriented groove after so cleanly doubling those "licks", is/was just YIKES! :-)
You should check out the blue shadow with AJ and steve jordon! The lock and synch was unreal.... On steve khan's album I'lll try to create a video link to it here!
Amazing track, I have always been a huge fan of Anthony Jackson. He is a most amazing bass man. Luv ya.
hate to overshadow anthony's amazing playing, but michel camilo is easily one of the best pianists ive everh heard, and his solo in this proves it
Hey man, you ain't wrong. Greatness loves company!
Lead Alto?
Chris potter, lew soloff on brass
CAN ANYONE UP LOAD THE REST OF THE MUSOS? PLEASE, THEY ARE GREAT THANKS.
if you really listen he is very underrated
Simply one of the finest, most unique and most passionate musicians to grace bassdom---
