Jeeping Sand Hollow Utah
Over the Christmas break, we took a break from sailing to do some Jeeping in Sand Hollow Utah. Not our typical video, but the majestic scenery captured with our drone was so incredible that we had to share.

Deep Cleaning An Old Sailboat
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
Adventures can come in many different forms! We know that sailing life will involve a lot of boat maintenance, so we spent the weekend practicing boat maintenance by deep cleaning our sailing club's 25' Catalina sailboat. We then spent the night on the boat to take it out for a great sail off of Point Loma near San Diego Bay.

This is the preview of our upcoming video telling the story of how we went from almost no sailing experience to sailing roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas. In less than 18 months, we earned several American Sailing Association (ASA) certifications, culminating in this incredible trip where we experienced the beauty of sailing in the Bahamas, and the drama of getting caught in a storm...

This video is dedicated to Kelli's dad: William Otto Genrich We travelled to Bishop, CA with friends to go Jeeping for the weekend to see Fall colors. As the trip was drawing to a close, Kelli received word that her dad only had a few days left to live. We hope that this video can bring comfort to anyone who has lost someone, or is grieving.

Kelli and I head to Big Bear, CA to go rock climbing at the Pinnacles for the weekend with our friend Pam. In addition to capturing out best climbing footage so far, a mistake in the guide book causes Kelli to lead her hardest outdoor route ever.

Sailing Lessons - San Diego to Catalina Island
Love the vid! I'm purchasing my first sailboat for liveaboard. Could you mop the floor and drain it out of the bilge pump? Thanks
Congrats on pursuing purchasing your own liveaboard sailboat! That's our dream that we're saving up for, so in the meantime we're getting whatever experience we can through our sailing club, bareboat chartering, or meeting other sailors. So yes, given an opportunity, you can see we're happy to work on sailboats! 😉
Going back and showing Jillian some of your stuff. We remember our first time. Really liking your videos! Cheers. Brian and Jillian
That's so cool! Funny thing is Kelli and I spent the evening last night watching several of your BVI videos! There are so many parallels about the journeys each of us are on. Stay in touch!
Love it. So beautiful there.
So glad you enjoyed this!
❤
Our first bareboat we were quite nervous! But over time we learn to stress less and less, but every time is a learning experience. Great video! The Sea of Cortez looks amazing! -Jillian and Brian
Thanks for the encouragement of sharing your nervousness as well. We spent the better part of 2 years building up to this trip, and really wanted to capture our honest experience to encourage our future selves of the progress we're making. Next step is a bareboat charter of a 41' catamaran in BVI in February while we keep saving up our sailing kitty for our own future sailboat!
@@adventureswiththewarrens you nailed it... That's part of it! Not every charter is champagne sailing... Weather, boat issues and hiccups happen to everyone... Just learning from it and not letting it spoil your good time is key! Luckily we have had some good friends serve as crew that has allowed us to learn, slowly! haha
Here's two things that have helped us. First, we ask ourselves before each sail to wonder what will go wrong today or at least not as expected. Then when something goes wrong, we always say "why would we expect to be good at something that we haven't done much!" It would be like thinking you'd be any good the first time swinging a golf club. It gives us lots of grace. we also think that although we'll continue getting better and more confident, keeping this attitude of self forgiveness is a good trait to hang onto. Balanced with an attitude learning from our mistakes and experiences. It's all part of the adventure!
@ great attitude to have!
Great video! Very informative and entertaining. Cheers! -Jillian and Brian
What a kind comment! So happy you enjoyed our videos. Just checked out your channel, and it looks like we are on similar journeys. Subscribed to your channel and plan on watching your BVI videos because we are bareboat chartering a 41' catamaran there in February! Looking forward to any local knowledge/advice.
@ can definitely answer whatever questions y’all would have. We have been to the BVI a handful of times and love it!
Fellow San Diegans, wife and I are absolutely loving to follow your journey, the candid, unfiltered details of going through the steps of sailing from ground zero to bare boating internationally. Thank you for taking the time to share your journey with the rest of us. 👍
@@AndreNiemeyer Thank you so much for you kind comment! That means the world to us. We love documenting this journey for us to look back on, and are so thankful of other channels that have inspired us. Just incredible to think others are enjoying us sharing this!
@ not only enjoying it but absolutely loving the fact that you two are locals and many of your steps have been or we plan to be ours. Keep posting and inspiring! 🙌🙏
@@AndreNiemeyerYou can do it! We talk about how we feel like we "stepped through the screen" doing the things we previously only dreamed of. Wishing you two all the encouragement. Let us know if you have any questions. Spending all our time researching liveaboard cruising. One more video in this series to edit, and then we're bareboat chartering a catamaran in BVI in February. Lots more adventures to come. Keep on adventuring!
@ that’s so amazing. Wow. Catamaran in the BVI. You two are doing it. Well done 👍
Awesome!
@@careenthorpe1258 Thank you Careen! Miss you but hope you are well! Merry Christmas! 🎄
@@adventureswiththewarrens miss you guys. I am well. Merry Christmas and keep adventuring.
We're going in March. Looking to book the same boat I think. Dufour 412 through Dream Yacht.
Hope you have a wonderful time! This was an Oceanis 41.1 named Tselana. We were very pleased with DYC in La Paz. So much so that we have a booking with DYC in BVI in February. Still putting together parts 3 & 4 of this series, so hopefully those will be helpful for you as well!
What time of year was your trip? So far, I haven't heard anything about temperatures.
This trip was in February of 2024. Air temps were wonderful as you can tell by our dress. Shorts and T-shirts during the day, with a very light jacket at night. Water was a little cold to be without a wetsuit. Have two more episodes still in the works from footage for this trip. Thanks for watching!
Well that is something I would never do with my wife! Good job Kelly!
Kelli is the one who got us into rock climbing. Really came in handy for this skill!
Just don't do it in a high wind and big waves! I like my daughter in one piece!
Nice video. Love the shorter haircut. Got to see you climb.
Miss you my friend
Miss you too
Of course Kelli will do it!!!! Boss!
Right?! I knew if I volunteered her, she wasn't going to complain!
“Love living life with you” What an amazing thing to say to / hear from the person you love above all others.
Wow, that's the most incredible comment we've ever gotten on a video. We are high school sweethearts who have been together 41 years, and are now empty nesting. We started doing these videos for ourselves and our kids to look back on someday. We say this to each other a lot because we have lived so much life together. The easy, and the difficult, the joy and the grief. It's still wild to us that others watch these videos and are encouraged, entertained, or touched by them. Thank you so much for your kindness and taking the time to encourage us with your comment.
love the slowed down/deep voice part. Probably the deepest I've ever heard Jeff's voice😂😂
Feel free to use that technique the next time you sing in one of your videos! It will give it that real Barry White vibe! 😂😂 Thanks for the watch!
@@adventureswiththewarrens LOL!!!!
Nice non sailing video.
LOVE Clark Canyon. Haven't been there in several years, but planning to hit it this September. Is it still fairly rough road with several fence openings/closings? I'd love to take a friend on this particular route, as he's done a little climbing, but 5.8 is probably a good stretch for him right now. Cool video!
We love this climbing area! This is Area 13 in Mountain Project and is easily accessible with a reasonable vehicle for off road. This area has some great mid range climbs which are perfect for us. Thanks for the watch! Sorry we never got around to putting together the full video!
@@adventureswiththewarrens No worries! I know how to get back there, and my Mitsubishi Delica is the perfect vehicle to get us back there again. I remember loving King Spud, and Spud Boy, but last time I was there, I don't remember numerical designations for the different areas, so those routes may be in a different location.
What cleaners did you use for this?
We used some mold and mildew stain removers purchased at West Marine. Thanks for the watch.
I have so many questions. Just saw your video. Can you tell me what charter company you used and how you rate them? We are looking to charter in La Paz.....
We are happy to help any way we can! We're sharing these videos to show everything we are learning through this process. We went with Dream Yacht Charter and had an excellent experience. I have 3 more videos planned in this series that will be coming as well. You can also check out our Swimming With Whale Sharks video of a quick local tourist trip we did the day before we boarded our boat.
@adventureswiththewarrens we will definitely watch your entire series. What month did you charter? How far out did you reserve your reservation?Thank you so much for your quick response.
We were there in February 2024. We reserved back in August 2023. You probably don't have to reserve that early, but we think we did get a discount for reserving early. When you are looking at a charter, look at boat and location you are interested in, but then use the website to look at other dates. You will find the prices vary a lot, but it's nice to see the options.
🔥 video! Very informative of what goes into bareboat chartering. Looking forward to the rest of this adventure and those to follow.
Thanks Matt! That means a lot because I debated on whether or not to make this video this way or not. I knew it would be light on sailing content, but for anyone like us who had never bareboat chartered, I wanted to show everything that went into it. So glad you enjoyed it!
Loved the video! Well done presentation.....I wonder if Netflix interested? :) Funny, but it sure looked like Kelli was buying cat food in the mercado. I don't think you have a live aboard cat. Looking forward to the beautiful travels of where you are at and the incredible boating.
Means a lot to us that you took the time to watch this video Todd! Let me assure you, that can of tuna was NOT cat food! 🤣
mount a gopro on the anchor!! haha! 👍🏻
There are actually camera systems we have seen that can go down with the anchor to help you know if there is good holding! We used an anchor app on our phone that let us know if we were dragging. Worked like a champ!
@@adventureswiththewarrens so would you say you are the drag king and drag queen of the sea? 🤣🤣
@@stuffsethmakes 🤦♂️
You both look so good. It looked chilly, but beautiful.
You're so kind! Miss you!!
super cool!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the encouragement and tips for the voiceover!
Wonderful video and congratulations on your success.
Thanks so much! That really means a lot! We just posted a video a few minutes ago of swimming with whale sharks this month in La Paz. This was on the trip we just returned from of our first bareboat sailing charter. Stay tuned for video of our solo sailing trip in La Paz coming soon!
You not only took sailing lessons but filmed a video of it which demanded your attention too. Kudos! I am sailing now in the Bahamas and killing time looking at videos. I think you needed more about the sail direction and winds needed though!
So happy to hear you enjoyed our video while sailing the Bahamas! Looking to get our first boat in two years, but enjoying local club sailing in the meantime (per our other videos). Regarding the direction and winds, none of the forecasts predicted the northerlies, but it turned that way after our departure and continued building. With the northbound Gulf stream current, it really caused the seas to build, but it worked out great because we wanted to get some heavy weather experience under the supervision of a captain anyways. Blessed to get that adventure!
👍
Thanks for the feedback! So glad you enjoyed it!
What is the name of the company that offered this?
Thanks for your inquiry Goat Man. We went through Learn to Sail San Diego. They sail out of San Diego Bay.
Good job guys! I had never seen the mold on the ceiling. I guarantee that is the best the SeaAvenger’s insides have been cleaned! Thanks
Happy to contribute to the club! She's a great boat. Thanks for all the work you did previously to get her sailing!
Applause to you both. I can so relate. Just redid our club San Juan 21 over the winter (I'm in Idaho and needed something "boat" to do) and will set sail for the shake down and two day regatta Saturday. You two are inspirational. Adventure On! BTW - can you talk about the PFD's you had on? They seem different. Your thoughts? Thanks.
Thanks so much for the encouragement! The PFDs we are wearing are self-inflating with built in harnesses. Mine is West Marine Offshore and Kelli's is Mustang Survival. These self-inflating PFDs are so lightweight you hardly know you are wearing them, and they were great on the Bahamas trip for easily clipping into the jack lines. We really like them and throw them on anytime we are going outside the bay in case one of us has to go forward. Good luck with your regatta! Keep on adventuring!
Looks like you had a great sail, but Oh the work to get the boat all cleaned up nice.
It was a great experience. And one of our best days sailing locally we have ever had.
@@adventureswiththewarrens 😎
FEAR !! Its gripping, i owned a 30 ft Hunter in my late 20's. Sold it when i got married...uggggg...now at 61 i want to "take off"....I applaud ya'll !!!
Thanks for the encouragement! We bet you had some great adventures on your Hunter! We just started sailing in our late 50s so it's never too late to get back to it! If you want to hear us talk more about coping with the fear on the trip, check out our full video of this trip called Caught in a Storm sailing the Bahamas. At the end we talk about this in detail.
Congratulations your new asa certifications. Could you share the information on how to find Jen and the sailing school she works for? Thank you
Thanks! We took our sailing certification charter through Blue Water Sailing School out of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Highly recommended and Captain Jen was an incredible instructor!
I stumbled on you and your channel a few months ago while looking for folks who have sailed to Catalina. I was intrigued by your story and how familiar it seemed to me. I went to your channel and found out why. You two are adventurers after my own heart. I taught my kids to climb when they were in grade school and have climbed al over SoCal, including Big Bear. I started sailing as a kid in the 70's in Santa Monica bay on a home made dinghy. Last summer I completed ASA 101, 103, and 104 in Tampa right as the hurricane season was kicking up. Watching the seas come over the bow in this episode reminded me of my week of training. 10 to 12 foot swells were a lot to handle. You two made it look effortless. As you said, your training kicked in and you were in the moment, with no time to slip over the edge into fear. I can't wait to get my 106 and 114. it is the next step. Hope to see you out there one day. Congratulations! I look forward to more videos and adventures.
We can't begin to express how much your kind note meant to us! We put together this channel because we wanted to capture footage of the activities we were doing, and as a hobby to do some video editing. But we never anticipated that people we didn't know or hadn't met would take the time to watch any of our videos. But we know how much we have been inspired by channels like Sailing Project Atticus and Gone With The Wynns and many other UA-cam channels we watch. So to hear that we put this out there and caused someone to have fond memories of their past, or to dream of future adventures means more to us than you will ever know. Thank you again for taking the time to write this note, and we wish you many wonderful adventures in your future. Get out there and keep on adventuring!
@@adventureswiththewarrens I, too, was inspired by folks like the Wynns, Atticus, Vagabond and so many others. I am delighted for you both. Let’s sail!
What a wonderful adveture. You kids really enjoy life to its fullest! Keep on sailing!!!!
Thanks! We already have some more footage of recent local sailing that we'll work on getting posted soon!
Looks like a beautiful trip with beautiful friends. Life is short....LIVE!
Thanks Roxy for living life with us, creating so many adventures, and being such a great friend!
Beautiful from beginning to end.
So glad you liked it!
Nice music...can't wait to see the whole thing. Miss you guys.
We miss you too!!! We wouldn't be doing this outside climbing if it weren't for you!!!
Loved the trip. You kids have so much fun. But what happened with a video of the sailboat race?
Unfortunately there was no way to crew the racing sailboat and film at the same time. We definitely plan on making a video of our sailing trip from Ft. Lauderdale to the Bahamas in November.
@@adventureswiththewarrens so how was the race!
no more sailing videos?
We feel honored that you took the time to comment on this video! We definitely plan on making more sailing videos in the future. In fact we have a sailing trip planned later this year sailing from Ft. Lauderdale to the Bahamas that we plan on documenting. Hope you enjoy the content!
Can't wait to see the extended version!
nice! is this with your new one?
Yep! It's the DJI Mini 3 Pro. First trip using it and very pleased. Seeing some reports that it's been having serious issues losing connection, but I have been ok so far. In this video, I was using Spotlight mode to keep the view centered on Kelli. I'll be posting a video soon that highlights its ActiveTrack capability where it followed our Jeep really nicely.

It means a lot to me that you took the time to watch this! Every time I'm shooting or editing I think of you. Just incredible to see what you have done. BTW, we watched the garden tour the other day from What's Up In The Garden. Great stuff!
I know this entire experience. Thanks for letting me live it from my couch. You guys are the best!
Love it Jake! So glad you enjoyed it. But now we gotta get you off that couch and come live the adventure with us in front of the camera!
Congratulations! Well earned.
