Rising Storm 2: Vietnam - Bits and Bobs
Переглядів 626 років тому
Took some old game play recordings that were in storage, and decided to take the best/mildly interesting parts from them. I had some fun flipping through the couple hours of footage, and slapping it all together for a short video. I don't do this kind of stuff very often, but I may have more content on the way for old times sake.

    • @DrWongburger
      @DrWongburger 3 роки тому

      That's an interesting insight. I think the commander you're referring to, if I'm not mistaken, is the South Vietnamese XO. I believe the reason he uses 'Alpha, Charlie' is due to the South Vietnamese allied militaries collaboration. United States, Australia, and south Korean forces, among others, would have to all be on the same level using standardized maps for grid references. That was the only way the coalition could operate with one another, and that's probably why the Southern Vietnamese commander uses those references. Especially if he's radioing in for support from an allied position.

    Would have been cool if the grid numbers in the voice line were relevant to the actual position called in. Also unrelated but for the South Vietnamese forces, there's voice lines for canceling AC-47 and Napalm strikes as well.

    • @jerrell1169
      @jerrell1169 3 роки тому

      Sadly that’s rarely possible, the games grid system isn’t even a proper military grid system as the grid squares vary in size.

      Vietnamese has several different dialects, top three being Northern, Central, and Southern. Not only can pronunciation be different, also sentence structure and word choice. So no, it's not just you, they sound different because of the different dialects. :D

    • @Max-lk6yi
      @Max-lk6yi 5 років тому

      @@ZootiniusYea, I suspected that because in Italy we also have many different dialects, in fact pretty much every town and city has Its own dialect so I thought It could also apply to Vietnamese. Also, do dialects exist in Vietnam because of foreign colonization (for example by Thailand or Imperial China) or is it because they just wanted a particular dialect for their own geographic regione inside of Vietnam?

    • @Zootinius
      @Zootinius 5 років тому

      @@Max-lk6yi I am not the biggest expert as to why there are many dialects. Foreign influences can definitely be one of them as there are many Vietnamese words that are similar to Chinese (probably because of the hundreds if not thousands of years of history between the two) and also many "borrowed" words that come from French. Personally my take on it is because Vietnam has "inherited" many different kinds of people in the past. I think the farther away a language is spread from its source, the more likely it is to develop differently. For example, American English, UK English and Australian English are mostly the same on paper, but pronunciation, and word choice is very different from their British origin. To answer the last bit of your question, no I don't think people "wanted" a particular dialect, I think it just happened on its own naturally. Hope I made sense. ;)

      @Lolz Mmilh yeah dude the country is very diverse so if you hear southerners say their countries name they pronounce it “yietnam” but the northerners say it “Vietnam.” I’m no teacher and want to make this quick so basically anything that’s pronounced y in the south, northerners would pronounce it with a z or v
