Trichroma for Harp + Electronics
Written for harp and live electronics, this piece was inspired by the Young-Helmholtz Theory (or trichromatic theory), which suggests that the human eye perceives color via three main types of photoreceptors. These receptors respond to different wavelengths of light (red, green, and blue), the combinations of which form a full spectrum of color. To capture this idea musically, the harp material is divided into three distinct pitch regions, with the central region being detuned to match the harmonic series (on C). The electronics, and their operator, respond in real time to the sound from the harp, serving both to accentuate the differences in register and to begin to blend them together. These regions converge, overlap, and break apart again as the piece progresses, beginning and ending in the detuned central region of the harp.

Alkmaar- Live Performance
Переглядів 215 місяців тому
This single-movement work was inspired by an article from a 1910 edition of the National Geographic magazine, which describes in great detail a North Holland cheese market in the city of Alkmaar. Despite the whimsical nature of much the article and subject matter, author Hugh M. Smith takes the business of cheese-selling quite seriously in his writing. Looking back more than a century later, it...
Coda for Piano Trio Live

“Coda” was written as an homage to the capricious and virtuosic finales of classic multi-movement chamber works, and aims to capture the energy and sense of finality thereof. The piece opens with a fanfare-like primary theme in the cello before transitioning to a virtuosic piano cadenza, which introduces a secondary theme that is also developed throughout the work. A slow and brooding interior ...
Volcán Arenal

In 2010, I took a summer trip to Costa Rica with my family, and stayed near the active Arenal Volcano. While there, I witnessed what would be one of the final eruptions of the volcano to date. Although Arenal has yet to erupt again, it is still active, occasionally rumbling and spitting smoke and promising of another explosion. Rather than depict the eruption I witnessed, I instead wrote this t...
Chacchoben Ruminations- Flute Solo
Переглядів 492 роки тому
This piece was inspired by a trip to the Chacchoben Mayan ruins in Mexico. Although much of the rubble has been reconstructed, there remain many structures which lie buried in mounds of jungle flora. This flute solo captures a journey through the ruins, beginning with sparse, airy passages which rise and fall, giving only a hint of the crumbled structures within. As the piece progresses, the mu...
