    I am a newbie, what’s the difference between this drill and counterattack?

    • @osmfencing
      @osmfencing 2 дні тому

      While a counter attack is, simply put, making a touch while avoiding being hit in turn, this action is using both a disengage - to escape a beat/parry against the blade - and opposition by extending against the fencer's attacking line, thereby establishing control over their weapon ensuring they cannot land their touch against you.

    Ive been experimenting with a slight forwards turn of the back foot (ie slightly less than 90 degrees) in the en guard recently. I was wondering if you had any opinions on that. I’m seeing more and more fencers adopt that sort of thing. My initial thoughts are that this prevents the back ankle roll in the lunge and also sets the foot up so that you can spring off the achilles tendon into a lunge more explosively.

    • @osmfencing
      @osmfencing День тому

      Lunging with the rear foot pointing forward (depending on extent) may increase the potential for injuring the tendon. As for the en garde, it would be prudent to maintain a conventional position as this can be adjusted depending on the needs of the fencer. Regarding ankle roll, proper training and conditioning would be better for prevention rather than changing the position of the foot, as this will not correct the underlying cause of the ankle roll (as causes for this are many: i.e. pulling forward on the front leg, weak ankle, overextended en garde position, etc.).

    Would there be issues with this happening except the ref gives the point to the opponent because it was an attack in preparation on your part? Is it a matter of reaction time or does right of way simply negate this and give you the touch anyways. The way I as a student, who has little reffing experience within my club, is to judge it as: attack from left arrives, right fencer was in preparation even with right of way.

    • @osmfencing
      @osmfencing Місяць тому

      If this question is regarding attack/counter attack, it can be read as attack in prep. should the advancing fencer just be moving forward but not effecting an attack (i.e. no lunge, no extension). If this question is regarding counter time (i.e. effecting a parry while initiating an attack), attack in prep. wouldn't be called provided the blade was found in time. If the opponent lands their touch before the counter time parry, it would be considered an attack as the fencer trying to take the blade is not attacking the target and not finding the blade in time.

    • @osmfencing
      @osmfencing Місяць тому

      Infighting is situational and less dependant upon height advantage. No one action demonstrated is better or worse against a tall opponent as both fencers must be in close proximity. I would encourage the application of the most familiar and comfortable action and make adjustments based on the position of your opponent.

    1. Keep moving, make sure there's enough distance (around the distance where your blades don't overlap) 2. Make some advances and see if opponent reacts, if they don't you can set up an attack

    Hello I am back, Umm in my past few compition I am thinking that I am not playing in my full potential means , the speed I have in not use and much more ...... The speed of my Perry repost,my finishing(attack)is not on my full potential (what I able do now ) and I cannot use it in my bouts leading me to loose sometime .. As a coach is something u can suggest me And thank u For your past help

    • @osmfencing
      @osmfencing 2 місяці тому

      Without seeing how you fence, there is not much that can be suggested. However, it is likely connected to your mental preparation. Try to identify why you fence better during practice and lessons and then compare that with how you feel while competing.

    Hi nice to meet you again I have a query :-if I did not use a single flick in my bout and the opponent have a good defence how much percentage is win-win situation for me ..See let say I have good speed than him

    • @osmfencing
      @osmfencing 3 місяці тому

      Can't offer a percentage as there's no data to really work off of for that. A flick is not a significant "fix all" action, but it does help diversify your capabilities against a variety of opponents. Essentially, it allows you to hit targets that are not directly facing you, such as the back, shoulder, etc., and is effective when distance is reduced.

    Hey I’m sorry if this is a stupid question but I am very new to epee and fencing in general but when you lunge is your back foot supposed to stay planted with the entire sole of your foot on the ground or are you supposed to let your foot angle. The reason I am confused is because in the video they angle their foot but my coach told me that you need to keep the sole of your foot planted. I don’t want to sound like I’m trying to point out an error in the video because that is not what I am trying to do I just want to know what the proper technique is. Sorry for the long comment.

    • @osmfencing
      @osmfencing 4 місяці тому

      As a general rule, you would want to keep your foot flat to the ground as this will reduce the risk of rolling your ankle when recovering from the lunge. However, in cases of deep lunges, the foot will drag and roll.
