Applying Eastern Spirituality to Political Conflict.
Today's polarizing political climate leads to strong, often negative, emotions. As Spiritual practitioners, what role should we play in political discussions and actions? How can we maintain clarity of mind while engaging in contentious topics? Our panelists will discuss the importance and ideal methods of engaging with suffering in the world from a variety of eastern spiritual perspectives, including Advaita Vedanta and Mahayana Buddhism. The panelists:
- Swami Sarvapriyananda (pre-monastic name Biswarup Mitra) is a Hindu monk (sannyasi) belonging to the Ramakrishna Order. He is the current resident Swami and head of the Vedanta Society of New York, a position he has been serving since January 2017.
- Professor Peter Bolland is the Philosophy and Humanities Department Chair and a professor of philosophy and humanities at Southwestern College in Chula Vista (peterbolland.com/).
- Dr. Elon Goldstein is a Lecturer in Religious Studies specializing in Buddhism and Hinduism at Brandeis University.
