"O Pádraig Mac Ruairí, you fine noble man, May you be in good health forever. This fine son of mirth dwells in Tory to the north Where he has a constant supply of ships and boats He does not wish to meanly hug this shore But rather to venture to the harbours of Spain; The navy, with cannon to the ready, pursue him, But Pádraig will never be captured. Paddy and kindly Éamonn Ó Dúgáin Are sailing together for France Their vessel’s sails are unfurled As they search for wine and brandy And we are not surprised in the least That Pádraig should return from the sea to us bearing goods from Spain As his son-in-law likewise trades in every nation Dealing with the French and the Spaniards. There is not a place of abundance or plenty in all of Europe But they fetch from it to us in time of shortage; And may the King of Sunday protect these bravest of men In times of mighty gale or danger. Corn and barley are as plentiful as turf From the east in Gaoth Dobhair to this valley; Pádraig will bring more still from County Mayo And we shall not be doleful come the summer. As she (the vessel) returns safely, she is a pearl to behold As she glistens in the surrounding sunlight; How wonderful to be at the slated mill For it is there we shall truly drink our fill. Hundreds are welcome to feast in the cabin As she is moored at the quay on a summer’s morn; To this stronghold sugar and claret will be brought to us And a cargo of strong rum and brandy to boot. Her hold is laden with ale most expensive; Rum, brandy and the vintages of Spain. Every boat in the country flocks To buy duty free from Pádraig. O Nancy, in Tory you surpass any other for all time And this new married life will surely agree with you, And Catríona, spouse of good-hearted Éamonn, is similar For she is the merriest in all the place." --- as you can see good old Pádraig Mac Ruairí was a smuggler :)
Proud….beautifully done 👍🏻
brilliant!
This is the real deal.
Sharp word smithing and adaptation of melodies in this, must have taken a great long while to get it just so and it's somthing to be proud of. 👍👍 Loved it! (I'll have to put this also next to my DeadMilkmen album in the punk playlist rotation😊). Thanks Fimbar and Breige and everyone at Oriel.
How can i describe what i am hearing here. Perfect pitch with an old and ancient frequency coming through, nothing forgotten or left out in the long history and tradition of the Gael's singing. I feel so anchored and grounded in the sound of Ireland. This young man's voice and singing is incredibly deep, masterful and beautiful.
gorgeous effortless voice.. such promise adn talent.. top lad..
Few forms of music in the world can match mesmerising splendour of traditional Irish folk.
Beautiful.
That. Pitch. ACCURACY! Ya could tune a feckin' piano to him. An mhaith ar fad!
What a great night of music and craic that was and great to see and hear some of it again via UA-cam. Thanks to Tommy and all at OTMA.
What language is this please?

Gaelic the ancient language of Ireland😊
Lovely to keep old traditions alive.
Simply sublime. What a beautiful voice. Thank you Patraig 😘
You are obviously a good man Jimmy.I say this because you recite this poem with a love for the words .They are of meaning to you.
You don’t need to know the words..history is taking through his voice .. beautiful ❤

Pádraig Mac Ruairí A Phádraig ‘ig Ruairí, a chorp an duine uasail Go maire tú go buan in do shláinte ‘S gur i dToraigh ó thuaidh atá dea-mhac an tsuairchis A mbíonn loingeas go buan aige ‘s bádaí. Ní fá chladaigh go suarach ba mhian leis a bheith ag gluaiseacht Ach ag tarraingt go cuantaí na Spáinne. Is go bhfuil an chabhlach sa ruaig air, is an lámhach anuas leo ‘S ní bheirfear i gcruatan ar Phádraig Tá Paidí agus Éamonn Ó Dubhgháin na féile Ag imeacht araon chun na Fraince Is tá an slúp leofa gléastaí faoina chuid éadaigh Ag tarraingt fá fhíon agus brandaí. Cé’r b’ionadh linn Pádraig le hearradh na Spáinne Teacht chugainn ar sáile go cinnte Is go bhfuil a chliamhain ag tráchtáil ag siúl fríd na náisiúin Ag déileáil le Spáinnigh ‘s le Franncaigh. Níl aon áit i Roinn Eorpa a mbí fairsngeacht is fónamh Nach mbíonn againn i gcónaí in am angair Is coimrigh Rí an Domhnaigh ar scoith na bhfear cróga Le linn gaoithe móire is dainséir. Tá coirce agus eorna chomh fairsing le móna Anoir ó Ghaoth Dobhair go dtí an gleann seo ‘S bhéarfaidh Pádraig go leor as Condae Mhaigh Eo Is ní bheidh orainne brón ins a’ tSamhradh. Ar imeacht as géibhinn di is ró-dheas a’ péarla ‘S dealramh ón ngréin uirthi timpeall ‘S nárbh aoibhinn an áit a bheith ag muileann na sclátaí ‘Gus ólfaidh muid ár sáith ann go cinnte. Tá fáilte ag na céadta ‘un a’ cábáin ar féasta Is í sínte ag an ché maidin shamhraidh ‘S tiocfaidh chugainn ‘un a’ bhadhúin siúcra agus cláraí Lasta rum láidir agus brandaí. Tá an stór aici líonta den bheoir is daoire Rum, brandaí ‘gus fíontaí na Spáinne Is tá bádaí na tíre ag tarraingt go líonmhar Is ag ceannacht ina saoirse ó Phádraig. A Nansaí, tá an chraobh leat i dToraigh go síoraí ‘Gus éireoidh an saol úr go brách leat Níor lú leat Caitríona, bean Éamoinn an chroí mhóir Nó ‘s aici atá aoibhneas na háite.
