LEGO compressed air powered go kart! (Does burnouts!)
This was built for @Farmer1234-g8f 's LEGO vacuum/compressed air go kart contest. Thanks to my grandpa for lending me the compressed air, hoses, lubricant, and Amazing Goop, not to mention the terrific camera work. XD

    Well technically all rotary engines are single cylinders, you mean single rotor?

    • @Dudeface167
      @Dudeface167 4 дні тому

      The problem is there's two totally different types of combustion engines called rotary engines, engines with rotors that spin inside of a housing (different from cylinders and pistons), and piston engines where the crankshaft is stationary and the entire engine spins around it. Those were almost always in a radial layout except in a couple rare cases where they were single cylinders, which of course can't be classified as any engine layout other than a single cylinder. They were invented around 1900 to solve the problem of cooling which was an issue at the time with standard radials. They were used in some early cars but became very popular during the WW1 era in planes for their good cooling and power to weight ratio (although the gyroscopic effect of all that mass whirling around made the planes a bit hard to control). In the 1940s engine technology had progressed enough that standard radials had become superior. LVE builders like to call these engines "Gnomes" but Gnome was just one brand of rotary aero engines.

    Also not sure if you already did this but if you’re using smooth pieces in the clutch try using some electrical tape on the inside of the clutch it should stop it from slipping I recommend two layers hope this helps!

    You should double check that the valve timings are correct. But even if they are ive found that ohv isnt always reliable.

    • @Dudeface167
      @Dudeface167 10 днів тому

    That’s an interesting design any benefits over a traditional design?

    • @Dudeface167
      @Dudeface167 12 днів тому

      Well it does put the port closer to the point of rotation so no need for a manifold like my 2cyl rotary had but otherwise its just unique. The VVT would theoretically be useful if it ran.

    one of the best vac. engine + transmission here. make a test on how much torque it can produce, maybe adjust the cylinder count. impressive but simple build you've done!

    • @Dudeface167
      @Dudeface167 28 днів тому

      Torque used to not exist but now it has plenty for a 2 stud stroke engine. Idk how you youd measure it though. It probably helps that it has 2 power strokes per revolution. I might do a 2 cylinder double acting LVE, but probably as more of a steam engine, I thought about doing a v twin version of this engine but idk. A multi cylinder version would definitely be cool but I might not have quite enough pieces. this was my first working lve btw which is why I dont want to take it apart

    That’s actually really cool. I’m still not a fan of this style of throttle just because it’s a lot of strain on the bricks and most will break if you use to strong of a vacuum (that’s why mine looks weird) but for regular vacuums it’s a great design!

    • @Dudeface167
      @Dudeface167 Місяць тому

      I don't know what you mean by strain on the bricks. It won't break because the slide is built sideways, and 3 bricks and a tile in height is exactly the same as 4 studs in width so the slide fits perfectly. The bricks behind the slide keep it from tilting towards the vacuum and that gray snot brick in front of the slide also used to have a 1x1 round stud on it to help hold the slide in, but it wasn't needed. I guess maybe if you have a really insane vacuum it might put some strain on the bricks but that's exactly what's happening inside the engine, isn't it? 😁 If you run your LVE at all then you're probably ok with a bit of wear and tear on the pieces....

    • @Dudeface167
      @Dudeface167 Місяць тому

      It's pretty sturdy as long as you don't use dark red bricks 🤣🤣🤣

    • @Dudeface167
      @Dudeface167 Місяць тому

      now that I think of it, this probably would work even better with a butterfly throttle. It's just that butterfly throttles don't work very well in my experience.

    • @kinggeorgessawmill3807
      @kinggeorgessawmill3807 29 днів тому

      Oh I’m using a heavy duty wet/dry vacuum it’s strong enough to deform your face from half a foot away but if you make a tutorial on it I’ll try it on my vacuum engine (don’t worry I’ll tag you)

    Also these types of engines “wobble engines” as I call them because they are usually very unstable when it’s just one cylinder. They don’t produce much power but lots of speed. I used to have a steam engine toy that worked exactly like this but it melted unfortunately. But that never produced much power as it was even though it was working on about 4 bars of steam. So yeah just keep that in mind otherwise very cool engine!❤
