That boss fight music is damn good!
It really is. Gives me kinda Streets of Rage vibes, in a way...
I bought this off eBay a few months ago. I think I had two or three goes before I got frustrated, switched it off, and the box went back on the shelf. I've never seen the second level - maybe it's completely different like other movie licences which have a mini game for each level (a la Batman - The Movie). To be honest with you, I found the game too bad to even bother googling the answer to this, but was kind of hoping maybe you would have cheated your way past the first level to show us. Very bad show from the Oliver Twins and, yeah, AA rating it that highly makes no sense. As you've found out through your Amstrad Anniversary vids, very few AA ratings do make sense. "Inconsistent" is far too much of an overstatement.
Yeah, and as much of a fan of AA as I am, it is only really now I'm seeing this inconsistency... But no, no matter how much frustration, no cheating here...
great game was one of the best
I guess I'll have to play more of it then :)
Like the introductions to your videos .. give some great background to the brand/game/etc. Also wasn’t aware of GBII being seen as a critical failure though I’m not surprised by this as I suspect Columbia expected it to come with all of the accolade (and cash) of the original even though 5 years had passed. Too quick to judge I’m sure over the years the movie has made whoever owns the rights now a hell of a lot of money. It was also the first movie I remember seen at the cinema as a child. Keep up the videos.. good narration and game play 👍
Thanks for the kind words! I was surprised to find that out about GBII as well, but yeah I guess tastes had changed in those intervening 5 years... I for one don't think it THAT bad, but what do I know... Thanks for watching, glad you're enjoying the videos 👍
This was the first game I got (not including the bundled software). I spent hours upon hours playing this as a kid. Very addictive!
Same. This and Oh Mummy...
Wow this looks really good!
I enjoyed it, if it was a little bit frustrating... but I think with time and patience you could get a lot out of this game
Such a bizarre concept: people like computer games, people like Rocky Horror .... uuuuuh pineapple pen!
That sounds like something I probably don't wanna Google...
@@retrobutionSHG you don't remember the PPAP guy? I will give this a go to see what I think, but I'll admit that the bright colours in some rooms made be feel nauseous, and I had to skip past them. Quick question (and not a slight, I promise) - why did you decide to use graphics smoothing? I know some people prefer it, and some don't, but I was just wondering the reasons.
@whetphish yeah, I was the same, and being epileptic too the flashing colours didn't help much either... But I ploughed on through for the sake of the review... As for graphics smoothing, I don't know what you mean. I did run this on an emulator, so maybe it was just a default setting?
@@retrobutionSHG ah okay, I guess the smoothing is on by default. I prefer it in its blocky originality, even if it does look different to how it would on a CRT. I know some people have smoothing and even emulated CRT lines. I will ask the question on the FB group and see what people's preferences are.
This would have been in my top 10, back in the day.
As you can tell, still is for me :)
My Mum bought this for me!!! Thank you for uploading this!!!!⭐️
One of my favourite games (still got the boxed version on tape). I originally played it on a mate's Amiga. The batmobile and batwing levels aside, there's not that much difference between the versions considering one is 8-bit, and the other is 16-bit. It was a bit annoying as a multiloader on cassette though!
I know my playthrough didn't show a lot of the game, but I did enjoy it and will return to again definitely. Do wanna see more of it. Still don't know which I prefer though, this or RoboCop...
@@retrobutionSHG interesting you should mention RoboCop when the level skip for Batman is ED209 😂
I did not know that 🤣
@@retrobutionSHG I haven't checked, but I wouldn't be surprised if the same development team were involved in both projects. They were both licences from Ocean.
I played the CPC version on my mate's fancy 6128 back in the day. I didn't realise at the time, but the scrolling is really good in this game. Makes you wonder why they couldn't have used this technique in other games.
Maybe something to do with bigger / more detailed sprites in other games? But that doesn't matter here, as the graphics nicely portray the characters and enemies... It really is a great version
Nice! The old systems had something special. Good times back then!
Yep! Definitely enjoying revisiting my Amstrad days, also playing a few titles I didn't the first time round... Good times back then, and now as well! 👍
01:56 The game came out in '88 though, right, not, '92? Even Robocop 2 on cartridge was 1990. I think it was maybe re-released on budget in '91 or '92 perhaps, when the Amstrad 8-bits new and old were on their last legs.
Eek, my mistake!
@@retrobutionSHG - no worries. It was otherwise a very well crafted review! And, like you, I never had this on my Amstrad at the time either, but I played it on my friend's Spectrum version and loved it. I didn't feel too bad though as I got the - also excellent - Batman The Movie by Ocean not much later on and that produced a very similar game 'feel' that happily satisfied me. Cheers.
@zeeox keep an eye out this week then - Batman is on the list!
@@retrobutionSHG - Will do!
great like 11
thanks :)
muy bueno like sub
Thanks!
That loading screen with its black Robocop predicted RoboCable decades in advance!!!
I haven't seen any of the Prime Directive movies, so I had to look this one up... But yeah, I see what you're getting at...
@@retrobutionSHG I like the dark feel of the prime directives show, taking place in the future after lots of Robocop's fellow human friends and officers have died, with the police force, and even his own son looking at him as being antiquated, and in need of replacing!!!
Yeah the premise does sound interesting... Might have to look into it
@@retrobutionSHG Robocop literally screaming in rage after not being able to resist a directive telling him to kill his officer friend, John Cable, and then pounding a nearby criminal to death with his hands is a disturbing moment!!! :(
If there's one thing the franchise does right, it's disturbing moments... Robocop 2 was pretty much Disturbing Moments: The Movie...
I think it was first AAA game, costed about 150 mln $.
Thanks for the info. I didnt know that, but tbf I've played a few versions of this now, and they've all been good. Deffo AAA
I always found it interesting Activision called Ecto-1 a 1963 Hearse. It was a 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor conversion that could be used as an ambulance or hearse, more likely an ambulance.
Thanks for the info! Maybe they couldn't get the licensing... I mean, they never called the VW Beetle by name either, even though it clearly is...
Seems like a lot of the movie tie-ins aren’t so successful, with one exception.
Hudson Hawk? 🤣
It's ET, isn't it. Best game for the 2600.
Of course! Best adaptation ever...
If the building is flashing then there is a ghost. The ghosts heading to zuul eventually build up and create the Stay Puft man
yet no ghosts appeared??
@@retrobutionSHGif you play it on an emulator it doesn't seem to play the same for some reason. I had the original clam case cassette back in the day and completed it. The buildings used to flash and once the gate keeper and key master got together the floating ghosts on the screen started to multiply into Zuul and then created the Stay Puft man.
Maybe it's just the way the graphics are handled... 🤷🏻♂️
I love the "Mario Bros. Special" for the Famicom Diskdrive. Fixing that jump made the game perfect.
i am no so familiar with Famicom disk games, tbh...
most acarde game of 80s bring me back joy. as well as this shinobi double dragon paperboy space harrier, list could go on and om
There were a load of great conversions for the CPC.. And I hope to cover a load of them too... I will only be looking at the official releases, but I might look at unofficial ones in the future :)
I remember having this game as a kid and loving the graphics but couldn't make it pass the opening level of dogs
Yeah, it is a struggle...
The other two Poké Balls were Koffing and Baltoy if no one has told you yet.
Yeah I found this out shortly after. I think I might have picked hard mode lol
I tried making this game in isometric last spring. I gave up and restarted in top down. Good luck with your project.
Thanks! Yeah it's hard work, lots of kinks to work out and hurdles to overcome, but it's interesting :)
This stage does feel like a pastiche of iconic sonic levels.
How do you mean?
That was a fun level!
I do like Icecap Zone, barring that one jump, but yeah. Is fun :)
Great vid. These levels are starting to get quite long now. Also: spiky chickens, eh. 😂
Yeah. Spiky Chickens. Who'd have thought 🤣
I am trying out a new thing here, where I actually RECORD a narration whilst I'm playing, and then translate that to the VO. So let me know if you like this chattier kind of LP, or if you want me to revert to how I was...
why are you using ai voice
Because my voice is horrible, and I don't really have the means to record a voice over anyway
@@retrobutionSHG thats pretty crunk
great vid dude
Thanks!
Great video!!! I really like the dialogue, and i don't know if you have the means to record voiceover atm but i think it would be a huge improvement over the text to speech currently. All in all great video though! Thoroughly entertaining :)
Thanks for the nice comments! Unfortunately I don't have the facility to record a voice over, but you wouldn't want to hear my voice anyway - it sounds damn awful when it's recorded!
@@retrobutionSHG Well, our recorded voices are different from our voices that we hear.
You don't wanna hear mine in person, let alone recorded lol 😅
@@retrobutionSHG Is the letter between mine and person an i or L?
Considering they're the same. :/
Since the game only ever capitalized the letters, I don't blame anyone for pronouncing it 'Hyd-rah-city'. You can tell me it's wrong, sure; Point is they never made it clear.
Always called it Hydro City since I was a kid, so why change now? But yeah I agree, they do leave it ambiguous
This looked all right to me apart from the pyramid in the background - that flickering thing gave me a headache.
New game time!
Yep, and legitimately my favourite of the classic Sonic games. I'm gonna enjoy this one
very good video
Thank you! Glad you like it :)
@@retrobutionSHG with the same method i beat eggman the first time😀
Almost at the end now!
Yep - although two challenges still stand in the way...
Are we sure the octopuses aren’t actually octillery?
They do look similar, but they could also be robotic Octoroks from Zelda? Lol
tts voice is a great way to make people just not watch
Thanks for the comment. I appreciate it's not for everyone, but it's what I'm going with for now
great vid :D
Thanks! :)
Must. Smash. Rocks. 😂
It's a weird compulsion, what can I say 😅
‘As it’s a liquid in a sonic game - at some point we’re going in it’ 😂
🤣🤣🤣 True though...
Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks 😊
Congrats on reaching the end of another series! 🎉
Thanks! It took its time, and was plagued with technical issues, but we got there! Hopefully, there won't be as many problems next time 😅
This was unexpected! Yeah those sprites on a gba would have been headache inducing. 😂
Gotta keep you guys on your toes! 😁
This is awesome! Can’t wait for the next one.
Collision chaos is right!
Is proper chaotic. Really not a fan of that one, especially the boss fight....
"Promo SM"
What is that?
This is cool. I haven’t seen much of this game at all.
Hope you enjoy this playthrough then :)
