Sweet's Brian Connolly Tribute Aug 2009

This is a special arrangement of three of Brian Connolly's solo works. 'Take Away the Music', 'Magic Circle' and 'Dont You Know a lady ' I dont think they have ever been performed in this century by any one. I then sing three of Sweet's best known tunes in a Glam Rock medley. This event paid tribute and publicised the Book about Sweet. Many fans turned up to the Covent Gdn Venue last Aug.

Aug 12th 2009, Author and Entertainer Brian Manly paid tribute to Sweet singer Brian Connolly at the Dragon Hall In London. This was in conjunction with the biography The Man Who Sang Blockbuster published earlier in the year. Connolly never sang this number in his life time but I felt that he could have done it to great effect. It is also a favourite of my partner Bob so , well I had to sing i...

This is a song I wrote for my album Obsession in 2006. It is my story in showbusiness. It is funny , it was supposed to be funny ! It is also a direct homage to Sweet ( brian Connolly) and has a tribute to him in the middle section. It is now surprise that Brian's biographer Brian Manly loves Marc Bolan, Glam Rock or indeed Mr Connolly! The video was shot in my lounge and uses artifacts from a ...

This is a song I wrote and recorded for m man Bob onhis 50th birthday. He likes Queen hence the harmonies. I am all voices, instruments played by David Buswell my collaborator of 20 years. It is me and Bob s story , our meeting his leaving New York, our car crash, our walks in the woods . It was inspired by a day at a castle on a hot summer afternoon. So we shot this little video for a laugh at...

Brian gives an update on his pectorial implants one and a half years later.
Brian our Angel ❤
Glam Rock was very cool and still " IS " and NO BAND was as cool as Sweet and NO ONE was (or is ) as cool as BRIAN ! Every thing Sweet did was so artistic and every song they sang was great and different in every song, not like lots of bands their lyrics and music were/are just the same in all most of their songs. Brian brought the magical into the band !
I read this book recently! A very sad story about a man who was gifted with a beautiful voice! May he RIP, along with his two friends and original bandmates! They ALL will be remembered fondly of! A book that every word is worth the time spent reading it!!!

Do you still sell this book? I would love to buy a copy if you could tell me where.
(I've tried the address above and it's bookdepository.com now, and says the book is unavailable. )
Hallo Brian, over 10 years ago you was a pioneer in a video about pec implants. Any update for us?
Brian was Sweet.
It seems to me Brian was very professional back then
Anyone know where i can get a copy of this book please.
thank you souch. it was purely coincidence. when I booked the studio the guy producing asked me what kind of music I was making I said it's a easy job I'm going to be reading a book for 6 hours he said what's the book about I said don't know if you remember them the sweep from the 70s and he said these words my wife sang with the sweet. I said your wife is either one of the ladybirds or she's Stevie Lang and he said Stevie come over and meet this guy and out from a door came Stevie Lane who was gracious funny and totally genuine. when I went to the studio I had no idea I am genuinely happy that you enjoyed the talking book. all the best stay safe Brian Manly
I have the audio book as I have a visual handicap, thanks for reading this book, and what a suprise hearing extra info including mrs Langestory, that was realy wonderfull. Great job.
please can some one Tell be Where Brain Came from i met him once at a football game in Wales he follow'd same football Team as me WRXHAN FC.
Brian was born in Hamilton In Scotland and moved to Hairfield in Middlesex just north west of London when he was 11 or 12. He continued to live in the area until his death . His homes ranged from a little private flat. a large mansion, a dingy ground floor council flat and happily , eventually the mansion home that once belonged to a famous football player .
Falta tudo hein!!! 😭
Blockbuster and Gean Jeanie are the same song 🤔
I'm not sure where you got that from but I can assure I have never in my life said that SWEET where forunners to cream. I do assert that they were forunners to Queen. but that can be heard fromsweets early b sides. Brian Manly

Brian connolly waent gay so how did he brian connolly ask to sleep with Brian Manley
As I say in The Man Who Sang Blockbuster Brian was in a very bad way at that time in his life. on that night he was very drunk and craved the attention that was no longer his. Also as far as sexuality goes there is a very big gray area that rests between straight or gay. millions of people assumed that Brian and indeed Andy Steve and Mick were also gay. they were after all the most effeminate outrageous and camp pop group in the world. In the fifty years since, No other act has done what the sweet did. They lasted 10 years and in those ten they did a full 180* turn from late 60s early 70s bubblegum pop 2 power pop 2 glam Rock supestardum 2 late 70s heavy metal coming to rest at a place in music that was all heir own. that won't happen again.
@@0belly9 brian connolly wasn't gay he was stright he as a wife mayrlin and two daughters nicola and Michelle and a girlfriend Jean and a son with Jean girlfriend Brian James connolly and a wife denice and Andy Scott isent gay he had wife and son and Steve as had a wife in 70s a daughter or daughters and mick tucker was married to paulie and as a daughter so none of 70s group was gay thier was all stright how does putting glitter and other things on your face and body make some one gay it doent
He brian connolly is remembered today along with sweet
Brian Rest In Peace I love you
I love Brian
I love Brian
I love Brian too

Why was the attack on Brian never solved and the culprits caught?
I dont know why he brain manley said as a icon brain connolly isent realy rembeed yes he is rembed
Brian Connolly was colour blind?
The Sweet and nearly all Glam Rock artists were terribly disregarded in the first two decades after the 70s. Brian was very famous indeed for about 7 years but after that he recorded just 3 single and some budget re recording of the old hits. Glam Rock was never cool. All that has changed since I wrote the book a decade ago young bands are doing wonderful covers and Sweet are at last highly regarded and respected. Fondly remembered by original fans and eagerly in wrapped by later generations. Today artists can use UA-cam and other online media to promote new material or preseve and build upon thier legacy. Brian would be thrilled. The music won the day, for as silly as it was. It was perfectly executed.Brian Manly
Wow
I don't know why brain manley as said he brain Connolly Isent rembed really well yes brain Connolly is really rembeed and so are sweet
Getting rid of Phil Wainman as a producer was a big, big mistake for them...The fantastic 73 singles & Six Teens n Sweet Fanny Adams he produced sounded perfect for them..Fox On The Run n Action were brilliant too (tho i know he didn't produce them) with one final beautiful last hurrah in Love Is Like Oxygen...Really wish they'd had a stronger sense of their strengths n hadn't worshipped Deep Purple n Zepellin so much. They had something those bands didn't have..A wonderful sense of english camp humour, love of great overdubbed production gimmicks n ace vocal harmonies..Sadly those things wern't given any critical kudos at the time, so they deluded themselves they were "developing" by going on to write dreadful cock-rock dirge travesties like Cockroach, then going all super-serious muso west-coast..Such a shame -but they still left us with some amazing music at their peak..
Steve Ison well written and I do agree, I applaud their bravery in striking out on their own, no matter how it all turned out.
I really liked Phil's production. Having said that "Give Us A Wink" is one of my favorite records. It's a great hard-rock album. Perfect, in a sense. You would have to agree that Mack is a great producer. Maybe, they should have gone back to Phil, after that record? There is no denying that they had some great songs, in their later career, as well. The biggest tragedy to hit this band, in my opinion, was the attack on Brian. I think it ruined his life and in turn killed the band. They should have made it a lot bigger than they did. I was fortunate enough to see Brian, when I was in my 20's, in NYC, with BC Sweet. He was excellent!!!!! I had no idea, at the time, what kind of dire physical shape he was in. From 10 feet away, he was still a total rock star.
Phil Wainman did a great job producing “Next” for the Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
Thanks for your comment. It's true that Brian's throat was injured by an attack in 1974 and also that Brian often sang at the edge of his range but the two catastrophic factors that destroyed his vocal prowess were smoking 30 cigarettes a day and the mysterious tremors and shakes that began when he was about forty. As for Andy Scott, it's time he had a break. He took Sweet far beyond where it was created to go. He had an iron clad work ethic and so Brian's lateness, no shows and insecurities annoyed Andy. It would have annoyed anyone. No one knew back then at the end of pop's first decade that what they were creating would last half a century and that they would be loved by the majority of their fans for the rest of their lives. They thought it was a job , a part of a career. It was in fact a marriage one which spanned 20,000 offspring. I met Brian at his lowest and it weren't pretty! Happy Anniversary to Andy, Steve, Mick, Brian, Phil,Mike and Nicki. You made our lives all the better with your music and talent. Brian Manly.
Well spoken
They absolutely did Brian. But as for your opinion on Andy Scott, I agree that he was very into taking Sweet so much further,he was ambitious, & good for him, nothing wrong with that! But Brian was Sweet,if it hadn't been for him, there wouldn't have been a Sweet. So Andy should've moved on & created his own band if he wanted everything to go his way. Cause in the end it destroyed the Sweet that we loved. So sad. Love your book 👍👍
I really feel for Brian, going through what he was going through...didn't know his true identity...had his lively hood damaged (vocal cords) feels bad he turns to drink and at his lowest..as frustrating as it may have been for others..being kicked out of sweet must have been a gut punch and heartbreaking for him and then the breakdown of his marriage...yet he still carried on the best he could...much respect and love for Brian x
@@dawnie3021Exactly what I think (I have an alcoholic partner whom I chose not to leave and help: I know I did the right thing and I have no regrets. I know what I am talking about and the mental mechanisms of a person who has had problems). I am not speaking from hearsay but from personal experience. Putting myself in Brian's shoes, he had been adopted, abandoned as a child, sick with meningitis, in a Glasgow hospital. Of his mother he knew little, almost a stranger, of his father nothing...He must have felt his soul scattered in fragments...as if he had come from nowhere. The violent beating to ruin his vocal cords, another trauma from which it was difficult to recover. Then, the departure from the band at Andy's behest: the coup de grace... abandoned twice, as a child and as an adult, with no chance to make amends or get help. I think he felt like a piece of rubbish, worthless, to be thrown away if he became inconvenient...which is very sad. I cannot feel bad feelings for him...only love, respect, (suffering should always be respected) and admiration...
In Brians case! It might have been a combination of animosity from andy putting the songs to high! Pressure from performing attack on Brian on his throat from some thugs! Alcohol jealousy from andys part! He wanted more presence RIP Brian and Mick
Wo bekommt man das Buch ?
excelente grupo musical tienen muy buenas canciones que si siguen tocando serían un éxito ojalá que sigan .sería genial vamos con todo se que serían exitoso
Has anyone read this book? Is it worth buying? My wife is a fan of Brian's.
+William Dedrick I am also 4-decades long Brian Connolly Fan. Quite many people have read the book, as well as I have taken it in the comments. Far below on this side MarkVL comments, maybe he would like to provide to you information. "Thesweet. com" offers ebooks. Greeting from Germany🎵
PS: This is certainly also interesting, it´s an ebook to buy at Amazon. It's not very expensive and you need no special reader: "Blockbuster" The True Story Of The Sweet."
It's absolutely worth buying it, i enjoyed reading it. Unlike a lot of other writers Brian Manly doesn't write ''pretentious'' which makes reading the book a pleasent experience.
Can you please tell us how painful was the recovery from 1-10? Is it really bad?
existe t il une version en francais???
Oh Gott wer ist das?
Birgit Rothe So was von schrecklich .Brian dreht sich im Grab um 🙄🙄🙄
Hi Brian, your page is down. :-( where can I find your book?
Have a copy of this book and as a long time sweet fan i enjoyed it. However in short i strongly disagree with the author on what direction the band should have taken. If mr manly was the manager of sweet he would have them singing songs like funny funny for their whole career. Wouldnt that be a bit like the beatles singing she loves you yeah yeah yeah till they broke up? Plus it does not matter if the singles in britain didnt do so well after a while when in the rest of the world they did. Sweet wanted to be more of an albums band and that they achieved with several fine albums that the likes of germany and australia etc apprieciated. So if the british public were too dumb to realise that i feel sorry for them, they had a top band that matured and they didnt even know.
Funk Enstein thanks mate
Yeah, well said mate.
