Across the Puget Sound! Ferry ride from Edmonds to Kingston! And a tour of the ferry!
I was on my way home from work and decided I would slap together an impromptu recording session.
In this video, you will get a full tour of the Edmonds to Kingston ferry riding on the MV Spokane! The MV Spokane is an old ferry, built in 1972 it holds 188 cars (approximately) and up to 2000 passengers!!! The top speed is 18 knots (about 20 mph). The class size is "Jumbo".
I grabbed my camera and mounted it to a weird spot on my backpack (the strap across my chest) and wandered around the Spokane ferry which was traveling from Edmonds, WA to Kingston, WA on the Kitsap Peninsula after crossing the Puget Sound.
It was a beautiful sunny day, a bit cold, but I decided to take advantage. Hope you enjoy!

Join me as I give you a tour of the best parts of the Port of Kingston Washington! We will explore a Seattle area hidden gem! Most people overlook all the beauty that Kingston has to offer! This is likely because most people only use the ferry to get to-from the mainland for outdoor activities like camping, hiking, fishing, mountain biking and various other things. First time saltwater kayak fishing in the Puget Sound with my Perception Pescador Pilot 12.0 (4k)

I decided to try taking my pedal kayak out fishing on the Puget Sound! I was very nervous about this because I have heard horror stories about encounters with wildlife and people who fell in and died from the cold water. Although I didn't catch any keepers, I still caught a couple fish! I also caught a really nice view of a beautiful fiery sunset! I also had an encounter with a giant 400lb seal...

I was fishing at my favorite spot but the fish weren't biting and my dog was doing some weird stuff...so I decided to record her! Watch my dog dig and chase bugs while watching me fish! Filmed with a GoPro Hero11 in 4k 60fps Enjoy!

Just a quick video of my trip from Rossford, OH to Minneapolis, Minnesota! I stayed at the Sheraton Bloomington which seemed to be in an industrial park full of other hotels/motels and restaurants. Overall, I slept good and it was clean! The shower was amazing too! Very dog friendly but only small dogs. Thanks for watching!
Another creepy hotel in Rossford Ohio! Motel 6

This video was in Rossford Ohio at a Motel 6 that had somewhat mixed reviews and you'll see why! It was worth the $76 I paid! No bedbugs, fairly clean aside from the cheap incense smell. Pet friendly motel only a few miles off of the interstate. Great for a quick night. Filmed with my Pixel 6 Pro!

Niagara Falls State Park near Buffalo, NY! I bought souvenirs and some awesome sweatpants. I had no idea that New York (the state) had so much beautiful nature! Nice commute. Our ferries in the SF area are very small compared to yours.

I literally have the same sleeping bag and tent lol 😊 if you ever make it to South Dakota let me know. I'm going to try early winter camping this year 😬
South Dakota huh? I almost camped at Roubaix Lake near deadwood but stayed in a creepy hotel in Sturgis instead! There was a big hail storm and lightning so I opted for a roof over my head.
@@unwillingful I don't blame you at all 🙂 was it the Bullock Hotel? I think a bunch of ghost hunter folk stay there to do their thing. I'm in Aberdeen tho so that's a little bit of a jaunt from Black Hills. It's basically Mayberry lol great nature spots tho
@kileywyotee528 I'm in Kingston, WA so it's also a ways away... No I stayed in the Sturgis lodge and suites. It's in my videos if you look for it! 😁

@@unwillingful just incase you weren't aware, big agnes sells a wedgie for those bags. It gives you more shoulder room. I'm built like a linebacker and I'm over 6ft so I got one and it's pretty cozy. Is that Andersen point?
Nope! Never heard of Andersen point... Is it a good spot?
Where are you fishing the shore from?
I would share where I was fishing from but I don't want to piss off the locals...I also fish there a lot... It's usually very packed even during the weekdays.
FYI - Those are not seals. Seals are the size of your leg and are some what cute. Those giants the size of your kayak in the video are sea lions. (You can tell by the silhouette of the head. Sharp crop overhang = sea lion. Seals have a rounded appearance from just about any angle you look at them.) Sea lions can catch and eat more salmon in an hour than you'll catch in a solid week of fishing. They will also take your fish right up to the gills, leaving you reeling-in nothing but the head. Feedback for the vid: Invest in a better camera mount. Trifle dull staring out at the water all video long...
Hey @lbar1spec ! Thanks for watching my video! You are correct, I later realized they were more likely sea lions and I have an upcoming video from shore that might include said sea lion catching and playing with a huge salmon! (it was pretty far from shore though...) I also possibly mis-named the green fish I caught in the beginning...It was more likely a kelp greenling or a sea perch. Cabezon are not such a vibrant color of green as that one was. You are also correct about the mount and the viewing position, I was trying something a little different than I had seen before. I want my content to be more about what I'm doing and not necessarily me. I have a few more ideas, and other positions to mount from on the kayak, this was just a couple of many trips I'll be taking! (might have to wait for the next kayak video though) One final note, this was all the footage I had from 2 days, I didn't have access to my spare batteries on the first trip and only got about 30 minutes of video and the second trip I wasn't even fishing with the right gear... It was a lot of boring footage to evaluate and I did my best to find the most entertaining parts...some fish I caught, some jellyfish, that one fish I saw jump out of the water, a scary sea lion that kept following me around and a beautiful sunset all recorded in 4k!
Just an update for anyone who pays attention to these comments! I went out and purchased a Mustang Survival Hudson semi-dry suit because of some suggestions of others! It was very expensive but I think it will be very worth it! (the dry suit was very comfortable when trying it on) I also purchased a VHF Radio which i'm not sure I will use very often but it'll be with me on every trip! There will be more kayaking videos this winter, possibly some crabbing videos once I get more comfortable with leaning the boat side to side.
Congrats.. Though to help the fear of the cold water.. get a dry suit. I bought mine 15 years ago from NRS.. Best yak accessory investment yet. Also, have a portable UHF radio to call for help if you are being malested by a Sea Lion.
Hey @Eric-gi9kg ! I actually went out and got a Semi-Dry suit today (the shop owner actually suggested it versus a fully dry suit). I am shopping for a VHF radio now. Maybe one with weather band. Not sure why it seems to be so important since I think my Pixel 6 Pro is waterproof to a certain depth but I guess using a touchscreen in the water might be difficult.
Definitely takes some courage to venture out there the first time. After that it gets easier as you gain experience. Mikee8420 is correct on dressing for worst case scenario and know your limits, but hard to know your limits without some experience. Summertime practice on kayak reentry a good idea regardless of drysuit or not. A drysuit or wetsuit will add a complication so good to practice with and without once acquired. Good luck out there and be safe. For those of us who kayak down I. Seattle, always great to have others around in case of an OS moment.
Couple of comments. 1) good on ya for getting out there and giving it a go. 2) glad to see you wearing your pfd. 3) you should dress for the swim, not for the air. Meaning if you flip in that water you'll have a limited time to right your boat and get back in before hypothermia prevents your muscles from working when you ask them to. Do you know how to do that? If not, watch some videos on self rescues. Best if you can get some paddle buddies to go out with.
Hey @mikee8420 ! Thanks for the comment! I have watched a few videos of "heavy" guys climbing back into my specific kayak...it looks really difficult! After my last two trips out, I plan on getting some sort of dry suit to wear...that water was really cold on my feet so I can imagine how it will be on my whole body! Unfortunately, I'm very new to kayaking and I don't have very many motivated friends who want to go fishing let alone go kayaking with me! I do stick close enough to shore that I can swim back if something goes horribly wrong, about 100 yards away max... After some feedback from another source, I'll take my kayak to a lake and play around with tipping it over to find that comfort level. I'll also attempt climbing back into it afterwards if I can manage to tip it :)
Relax your body Trust your kayak and allow it to bob around. Keep your head inside the gunnels and if you need to reach anything in the back, it's better to side saddle with both feet out one side. have fun, get on them salmon coming in., be safe. This weekend will have low wind. I'll be at shilshole saturday and redondo Sunday mornings
Thanks for the tip! I have a few things to try next time I'm out
lol a one eyed salmon, imagine some other fisherman out there catches it, wtheck is this 🤣
I'm almost positive that the giant seal got it... He was following me around the rest of the night...
I see Whidbey Island across the way, where I Coho fish at Possession point bait Co. and only with live herring I use. Nice hatchery Coho you got..🎣👍
Thanks @dansSawfish5604 , one day I'll venture out and try other spots. I have a pretty nice kayak that I'll be showing off in my next video release, maybe I could pedal all the way across to Whidbey Island. By the way, that wasn't Whidbey Island over there...you're close though ;)
Okay maybe Whidbey was in frame for a very very brief second :)

@@bobgomavitz1330 haha how did you know?! Yes low tide is better. I mapped it out with a kayak and fish finder... There is a pretty big drop-off about 100 feet from shore. Honestly though... It doesn't really matter what the tide is.
