Pertinax-PCB and a single motor for both deck, with flywheels made out of plast. If i saw this thing, in 1999, i don't believe it will last for 25 year - maybe a year or two. My new Teac W-1200 is slightly better build, so i'll hope it'll be my last deck(s)!

Before you put any tape in, replace all micro switches or it might start recording/erasing at random. Replace pinch roller and brakes, replace small always cracked gear on the reels motor. After that, it’s a great 2 head deck with very accurate tape speed. Sounds almost as good as its cheaper brother 555.

once i bought this deck to use with a SA-608 amplifier from pioneer 78 catalog with a tuner TX-608L ,had already a PLC-590 turntable , 20 series from Pioneer also and using some late 80´s mission 761 at 4ohms it releases a very clean and amazing good sound ,everybody who listened to this system gets amazed by it´s clarity and power, not much but enough to the room i have it, 70watts speakers

i do it because i´m getting lazy with age , i have spotify and even having the records or cds i make a playlist with whatever songs i want to listen and using exactelly the same deck and TDK D cassettes but only C60 cassettes never used 120 minuts as they are causing diferent types of problems also the engine on my technics deck is getting tired so more than 60 minuts a vibration is heard, i only put off all efects of the windows or spotify sound improvers but put the crossfader in 9 seconds and it´s good to go, used to record to minidisc using a pioneer MD deck but now i think the sound stays more acurate to the original sound ,using cassettes, normally i put it on 7 of the rec level scale to record it perfect also don´t like to use dolby as there is no hiss if the deck is working properlly, maybe yours is working better than mine, i have a 79 technics deck with the same features and it´s engine with a lot more use didn´t get tired yet, but while it records good with 60 minuts cassettes i´m happy, i only conect it, the deck to a amplifier using the Pioneer A-91D and some CDM7 speakers from B&W , i used to have it hooked to a A-717MKII using a GR-777 equalizer some CS-997 190watts (DIN) all from Pioneer with some SB-F3 technics speakers (only the 79 model) on top of the CS-997 to have a better mids and high´s resolution, that is easier to make a compilation, i have 1063 playlists on my spotify software

I think this is a knock off made in taiwan. Definetely not japanese. Malaysan maybe as well.
