    A series about a group of people deliberately trying to create a certain timeline by a series of events that could only work if a person can retain information while timeline hopping. It's a brilliant new way of storytelling that basically says "I can have my cake and eat it too, and have a different flavor fresh and ready, and even a flavor I don't like because why the fuck not." I love it

    My wife newrly died two winters ago. At the end of every sleepless day when I went home to get cooked off whatever I had, the CD mix on repeat had this song and it always played on my way home. I was awake for 60+ hours straight off nothing but animal fear, drugs and the immense depression of the current situation. She had lost everyone and everything already. Her entire family. Orphan at 21. Cancer, suicide, cancer. And we been together for almost 10 years at that point. Were gonna get married in May of '22. But under the ever wavering and kaleidoscopic effects of sleep deprivation, the traffic lights took on a hypnotic quality guiding me back to a different location but the same situation. Will my wife ever be the same--well at the time my girlfriend--but they expected she would need months of therapy to maybe ever be the same. Couldn't talk. Couldn't walk. Awake. Unresponsive. The only times were when I'd sit down by her side and tell her where I was going--for the faintest moment she'd have this.. recognition. She'd run her hands in my beard. She couldnt speak. Nothing else but the familiarity and recognition of who, or what kind of animal I was. After 4½ days of nothing and no change she woke up at 45 til midnight while I read to her Generation Kill. Completely fine, by their dramatic and fear mongering expectations. "Could you pass me my phone?" was what she said upon waking up. I burst into tears and called the nurse into the room: "She's awake, she's awake, get in here _now!"_ I wish I could explain the degree and pain, the visceral nature this track brings all that back; tears more than welling and working their way to choking me. _But I'm just glad to not be back there anymore._

    Don't mind me, just leaving an author's note for myself as to why I saved this video to this particular playlist. Arrow, if you end up making "Black Box" a game rather than just writing a story, please consider how the Spike system helps with the storytelling. How does it relate to the MC's personal progress through the different loops? I mean, it'd be a movement search-action game if it were made, so I think it's obvious how to explore and expand how the Spike system works. Also, this is one of the best explanations for the Prisoner's Dilemma I've ever heard, so watch this again to make sense of it. I can see Hunter having to deal with a Prisoner's Dilemma or a Trolley Problem, so make sure you get better understanding of those things.

    Random 999 appreciation post: I think the first game is still the most immersive out of em. The more realistic looking visuals, the sound design, the slower-paced way characters interact with everything, I genuinely felt like I was IN the ship with Junpei and the others. What a great experience.

    Disco Elysium made me wanna create. Create something that can stay with people. Made them remember characters and message of said creation. I don't even care if it makes me a lot of money, or if it becomes "one of the best". I just wanna make something that moves others and make them think, even if just for a bit. Connect with them. But I don't know if I have the skill to make it. I've been writing a little for years, but I can never finish something, or I don't know if it will ever have the power to move others, but at the same time, just like message of Disco Elysium... I wanna have hope. I wanna create art. If not today, not in a year, then maybe one day. I still have my whole life ahead of me, so who knows.

    The atmosphere of a house as a child. Second floor, a small room with two huge windows. All lit up. Outside the window, the ground is frozen, the dead thick grass, a meter high in yellowish gray hues. There is no need to go anywhere, there is an old laptop on the table, on which Windows 10 is installed. And I, a little boy, shiver with anticipation - my first computer. This is unadaptable, and shouldn't be adapted. It's a video game. You play it. So much of the genius and brilliance of the game relies on that fact, mechanically, it's a game. Removing the legwork; sawwing off all that internal monologuing; not having the interfacing creepily licking along as you stare at your Attributes.. _It works, because, of its medium. It was made for this. That's what it does, did, and then it died._ *And that's okay.* Besides, Amazon optioned it for a shitty TV series either way.

    • @the8thman
      @the8thman Рік тому

      @@audiosurfarchive Excuse me but nothing is unadaptable xD. The fact that you start by saying ''it's a game you play it'' says nothing. There's dozens of games that got adapted to a tv series or a movie. Some of them failed , some of them were great. This is 100% a game that could make a great movie. You obviously lack knowledge of how adaptations work.

    • @audiosurfarchive
      @audiosurfarchive Рік тому

      @@the8thman Yep, sure do. But it would suck, and defeat the entire experience by not playing it. It would be best as a limited series, if at all. Let's see your script treatment for surefire, safe Premium Network Streaming hit adaptation "Disco Elysium." Cram it right in next to a House Of Leaves adaptation, or a videogame version of Mad Men while you're at it. Those all have strong narratives, therefore, it can resonate _just as well_ in a different medium. Or whatever. I wish The Wire: The Vidyagaem (College Humor) still was up, because that was supreme.

      @@the8thman Go ahead and school me, teach, ecks dee, I have no idea about anything, rawr: (holds up spork) Sure it IS adaptable, anything is, of course-- That doesn't mean it would be good, nor should it be done. Nor would any reasonable production company take that amount of risk. Daniel Day Lewis would be hilariously bad, even if I don't doubt his technical acting skills--too old, too much pay, etc. Unless for some reason you get Paul Thomas Anderson to direct it, apparently DDL enjoys being led under him and works reasonably well. _The main problem is the script. Every player will not feel like it's a good adaptation and felt left out of their representation of the game._ It just wouldn't work. I'd love to be proven wrong, though. But that won't happen. Best thing is a new story in the IP, and not just giving hack Hollywood writers/directors even more intellectual-property land to rape with their remakes, reboots and sequels. But I figure you're just trolling me, so, I don't mind ruminating out on this hypothetical.

    For once, Harry feels a sense of peace around Kim as he watches him blow smoke over the balcony railing. Martinaise and its people seem to slumber by midnight, as the streets are mostly empty and the chilly air causes Harry's breath to be visible against the stark black sky above him. With everything going on in the area, the gentle quiet and crisp night air calms the anxieties that have been bubbling in Harry's stomach since he woke up in an amnestic nightmare, hungover from a night he can't remember. What he's managed to do with his time in Martinaise so far is nothing less of a miracle, considering the circumstances. Harry has a feeling he isn't even close to solving the suspected murder, but given his current situation, he's willing to put that thought to the side for now. Harry has noticed that Kim routinely has a cigarette on the balcony of the Whirling-In-Rags each night before he settles into his room to sleep. While on his way to his own room, Harry has caught many glances of him out the second-floor window, strangely yearning to join the lieutenant outside. Harry would never ask, though, as Kim would most certainly want his privacy. That didn’t seem to be the case tonight. Kim, for the first time, invited Harry for a smoke. Unprovoked. And Harry couldn’t refuse. “You’re a fascinating detective,” Kim says, breaking the silence between them. “…fascinating?” Harry has no idea what that means. “Yes, fascinating.” The two men stare at each other with frowns plastered on their faces, but Harry’s is a bit more exaggerated. Kim is not the kind of man to openly express emotion, but Harry catches him rolling his eyes, just a bit. He then brings the cigarette in his hand to his mouth, inhales, and blows smoke over the balcony once more. Kim, as always, seems to understand that Harry’s confusion is genuine. “I find you abrasive, irresponsible, and reckless. You make terrible decisions, ones that often put yourself and those around you in danger, and you are very easily distracted by irrelevant matters." He says it matter-of-factly. He’s being honest. Something heavy and ridden with anxiety forms in the pit of Harry’s stomach. He normally isn’t too affected by the words of others, but from Kim, it’s different… for some reason. Harry is about to retort with something, but Kim clears his throat and gives Harry a look that is significantly gentler than any of the looks he’s ever gotten from Kim. “However,” Kim begins, “your skills as a cop have impressed me. You use methods I wouldn’t imagine using, and they work. You’ve taught me many techniques in our short time together and I can’t imagine I would be any more productive on this case with any other cop. All of these things make you fascinating to me.” …and just like that, Harry’s mouth clicks closed, and that heavy feeling in his stomach is suddenly lighter. “Thanks,” Harry says, as that’s all he can muster. The remaining 15 minutes fly by as Harry asks a number of questions about the district of Martinaise and Kim’s personal life, and Kim seems to answer the questions with more openness than before. Kim offers Harry his cigarette, and they smoke it until it becomes dust on the balcony floor. Any traces of people on the streets of Martinaise are gone by now, and it leaves Harry feeling like he and Kim are the only two people in the city. It’s… a welcome feeling. For the first time, Harry catches himself thinking that he could get used to this.

The fiasco with the IP rights and the sequel were part of the devil's bargain of what it took to get this game funded and published. But whatever happens next, it was worth it.
