Explorer power steering pump pressure and volume modifications
Переглядів 7 тис.5 років тому
This is how I got more pressure and volume out of my Explorer 5.0l power steering pump. I don't have any numbers to share. Only that it made a big difference in my steering with the RAM assist and 40" tire's.

I did this to my F250. Steerings way better when its not moving. The pump is loud now. Lets see how long its lasts. Did ur pump get loud?
My pump did not get loud. Is it possible you have air in the system?
Ive pulled apart several later 4.0 c3 pumps and they dont have the node sticking out, its a smooth shuttle valve. I imagine they have a smaller hole than these too
I have found that the node was on 97 and up as a rule. I think the node is there to limit flow in a stock application.
Question on a stock application my explorer has a new rack and pinion, reman pump, steering assist is lacking at idle, would just removing the restrictor nipple keep the pressure the pressure the same but help with the lack of flow? Not trying to blow out a new steering rack from excess pressure.
I'm not exactly sure. It couldn't hurt it. You may consider putting an underdrive pulley on it to make the pump spin faster at an idle
Any idea where I can get one?
@@Fordtruckfan89 Driven auto is where I got mine.
How did ypu get the shuttle valve out, Mines stuck.
You should be able to pop it out fairly easy with a small punch. Not sure why yours is stuck.
@Low_Key_Offroad honestly, I think its the "reman" pumps I'm getting, there rust residue inside. I did get it out through the bottom with a punch, shouldn't these move freely?
@@VileMisanthropy yes it should move freely.
I want one!!! Cool video 👍🏻
Contact Joe or Tammy Karnagewelder.com. they will hook you up
Very awesome ! I hope you get a lot of use out of your new welder- ON OTHER RIGS !
Of course. Mine never needs repair. Lol
That has to be the most real-world video that I’ve ever watched. Second guessing the welder I was planning.
Thank you, I'm not much of a grandstander so it was not easy for me to make this video. But I thought it turned out good.
Very cool buddy. They make a great welder and some day I'll own one.
Ever since I saw one a few years back, I knew I needed one. Just didn't know how I was going to get it. LOL, these things weld far better than the ready welder and are way more ergonomically a better setup. No more lugging a couple of car batteries out of other people's rigs to hook things up to get ready to weld. I'm literally ready to weld in seconds.
Thank you sir
Good Stuff buddy!!!!
Thank you sir!
Thank you for this! I'm going to have to figure out how to do similar on my Jeep WK pump; it's a bit different than these, but you gave me a starting point!
Would I be able to achieve the same with a reducer on a smaller hose. I’m lookin to put in a power steering cooler. But it’s a 5/16 fitting not the standard 3/8. What’s ur thoughts
Can I do this without removing the pump and/or draining the PS fluid?
Hi can you help me getting my power steering pump modified. I want it to be 25% more lighter.
Finally! I hate how stiff my steering is
You won't regret it
So a year later is there any down side to this mod or still working good?
It all works great. Runs by Ram assist well.
Two of them I’ve done this to are still going strong. I’m going to build a larger reservoir to lessen the cavitation to the system since I’ve added hydroboost and 35” tires to the load.
I have a 5.0 from a explorer and a crown vic front clip. The steering is kind of hard you think this may solve my problem?
Yes it will.
@@Low_Key_Offroad Thank you
What are the dimensions for your plate? I'm doing the same thing on mine.
that was a speed bump
what was he shooting with?
300 win mag.
I lost half of my gopro footage from this Unevent. I'm guessing Ben sent you this Lowkey
How is it an exact copy if its so much better?? And i think you may mean CJ....idiot!
Its hard to see in the video but what happen is I got on the throttle a little to soon. My wheel speed was way to high before I landed. The sudden stop when I landed broke the axle. I just got all the parts this weekend to put a 14 bolt under it. That should put a stop to the broken axles
thank you for airing down. haha
FJ 40 = Exact copy of Jeep Wrangler
Footage of the actual jump would have been awesome. LOL
I really need to teach you how to jump
Nope I sold it.
is bronco still for sale
It has a 5.5" suspension and 3" body lift. I run 38" Toyo mt's.

I thought that was just a well choreographed drive.
