Palace cinema (one of two in Chester-le-Street and probably the flea pit for Saturday morning kid's matinees). At least the Post Office and library are in the same place!

Hi there you need to park on the side road nearby, then walk on the main road for 10 mins, before cutting through a forest and up a small hill, but any decent hiker could do it. From the side road it took me about 20 mins in total. Beautiful countryside so well worth it.

Nice one. I flew my drone over that last year. I fancy going back there again and getting a closer look. Is it easy to walk to?

This place used to be so, so nice years ago. Full of character and appeal. There was foliage everywhere, and there were several fountains. It's soulless now. Half of the shops are shut now too.

Thanks for this. Yes I too didn't know you could climb up the middle of Grey's monument. It's interesting to note but I can tell that this isn't very old due to how even the steps going up are. In medieval times for purposes of defence the steps tended to be purposefully uneven. The reason for this is so that the attacker who was moving upwards was disadvantaged when it came to their footing, though I can see that it moves up in a clockwise direction which again was for defensive reasons; reason being that most soldiers were right-handed and to move upward in a clockwise direction meant that they could only hold and swing their weapon with their weaker left hand.

It's definitely worth a visit. And not that expensive well. I did a package where I went there then had a 2 course meal at banyan after 😊
