Hi, if I can give you an advice, just play the game. If any trouble in deciding who sees who, a gentlemen agreement should be ok. Plus, you do not encounter very often such situations as described around 16:41 in the video. So, do not be embarassed by such rarities. BTW, thanks to Nerd W for this very comprehensive study of LOS in "Into the woods". What would be really interesting to see as well would be videos of the best way to handle your troops tactically to get the best result. To be remembered unless I misread or misinterpret the rules book: during your "Attack" activation you can move and shoot your infantry; but you may as well shoot first, hoping to disorder your foe two to three clear hexes away before moving on for the shock on the same target you just happen to shoot up.
The title should be "how it IS played", it is a game in existence NOW.
True, but I was showing you how we use to play it by mail. Which no one does anymore.
@@NerdWorkshop1 You can use Vassal.
Does this play well solitaire?
You lose the hidden aspect of it, but there is a version on boardgamers that explains how to play solo. Thanks for Watching!
You can put your designs on Printables and charge for them. Prusa take a cut .. but no cost to you to host.
Thanks, I am there looking but I don't see how to price the stuff out.
I would love to be able to make those counter trays for my games. Guess I should learn how to use sketch up or see if you have the STL files available
Not at the moment, but I am looking for a host site.
Is there attrition in Winter?
I am sorry to say, I can't remember. I will have to look that up. Been a while since I played it.
Absolutely fantastic explanation of Line-of-Sight. Thank you!
I am glad it was helpful and thanks for watching.
Played it in 1972 , I was 12, 1st wargame I ever played. Positive I played it wrong. Recently purchased it again in hopes of playing it right
I am sure I messed up a bit on this series. But still a lot of fun. Thanks for watching and I hope you get to play it soon.
Similar to risk type of game play?
I would say much different. but both are really fun games.
When attacked by fighters, the defender must drop tanks. If the attacker declines to drop tanks, the "E value", is reduced by 2. Also, there is no addition if attaching with a greater "E value"
I missed that, hopefully that didn't make too much difference in the end. Thanks for watching it through.
@NerdWorkshop1 thanks for the video. btw, do you have a pbem list of players?
Boy this sure brought memories, thanks so much.
same here, really brought them back while playing it for the video. Thanks for watching.
Now wish i had an AH partner to play
I love these designs, very functional! Are you planning to make them available anywhere else? There are no good ones out there that I have found for counters this size. Thanks!
Thanks Bruce, I tried selling them on a website, but after a year I paid more for the website then I did make from the sales. So now I don't have them anywhere. But that may change soon.
Howdy, Did you ever end up building and painting the defiler? I just ordered one, and im interested to see how yours turned out. My thousand sons army daemon vehicles such as Heldrake and Forge Feind. use a red to blue transition on their armor. I hope you and your channel are doing well😊
I like your thousand sons color choices. I have not painted the defiler yet.
Cool game. I just got a copy. Can't wait to get it on the table. I like that counter holder you made. Do you have a file of that or did it get destroyed like Germany?! Lol
It has to be on one of my hard drives. But I have not found it yet.
Thank you so much for the tutorial, it was strangely difficult to find a tutorial that’s easy to follow along like this. Cheers to you
thank you very much for watching.
The arms for me is the most difficult part
The eyes are the tough part for me.
Great video! Very clear explanation.
Thank You.
I've had this game for well over a decade but never played it, I was collecting games at one point and have over 100, half of which, maybe more, I've never played. Funny to me that they made the Germans GREEN and Americans BLUE, going down stairs to check mine out to see if it's the same. Nice video BTW! Thanks!
Thanks for watching and hopefully you will get a chance to play.
Victory in the Pacific is the crown jewel of wargaming! The Russian Campaign is not far behind. Have always wanted to try and learn Caesar at Alesia someday as it looks so unique.
I really like Victory in the Pacific, one of my top games for sure. thanks for watching,
I played Panzer Blitz and Panzer Leader as a kid. Our next door neighbor was former Wehrmacht from WWII and this game was part of his training as Hitler youth. I play Panzer Blitz with the former soldier's son with encouragement of the father. This game teaches real tactics used in WWII is really a training simulator and less a game.
I would agree with that, but I still love the game. thanks for watching.
Great video. Clear, concise. No unnecessary distracting music. Well done, sir!
Thank you!
I've had this game for decades and never played it! Thank you! Wow, attempting to play along, setup is "epic" I think would be the appropriate word! I'm missing 2 Japanese ships but made due with a couple blank chits. Cool old game!
It is a great game for sure. Thanks for watching.
I have all of the except 1776. My dad picked up Luftwaffe and then let me have it. I want to play these with my kids. The grandkids are still too young.
Hopefully they will want to play in a couple of years.
Thanks for the video! I’ve only been able to get this one to the table one time after it first came out, but I’ve always had an interest in the Italian theater. Cheers. Ps: how’s the truck coming along?😊
I do like this one of the series. The truck is coming along well. Still pulling thing apart and finding new stuff to fix :)
hey boss, nice video.
Thanks Buddy!
Cool video, but please either increase the volume of your voice or decrease the riff you played during phase changes, it's really loud lol
Very good point judisvaldo, I will correct that one the next video. Thanks for watching.
Played it often.
It had been awhile, but I am looking forward to getting it back on the table.
Always loved the Designer Notes in the AH games. They put a lot of effort into them.
I agree aleks1939, still to this day I enjoy reading them for any new game I get.
First American move you moved the last bomber 4 spaces instead of 3?
Yeah, I probably made a number of mistakes. hopefully it didn't affect game play later. I think the Americans just pushed the throttle to 11 :). Thanks for watching.
I always asked for an AH game at Christmas. Had all the old titles: D-Day, Stalingrad, Gettysburg, Jutland. A few years ago started buying them again on eBay. Had two shrink-wrapped Civil War titles, Grant Takes Command and Stonewall in the Valley. Never got to open them. I guess I accumulated between 15-20 titles. My wife later filed for divorce (not over the games, haha) and I had to leave it all behind. Such a shame. I guess she threw them all out. I asked if she would ship them to me, she never did.
I can relate to that story :)
This one I still have, bought it around 1980 when I was in college. These games were much easier to decipher and understand at 20 than when I was 10. Very enjoyable and fun game, I played the heck out of it solitaire. A few years later I progressed to Squad Leader.
Squad Leader always seem the natural progression from this game at the time. I have Squad Leader, but still have never played it. One day I will.
Had always wanted to give this one a try. Whew, these games have gotten so expensive on eBay.
They are, but I think this one you can get at a good price. try here: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/746/the-game-of-france-1940-german-blitzkrieg-in-the-w/marketplace/geekmarket
I might look into the Fiskars rotary cutter. I have a pair of their shears. They are the bees knees for scissors, razor fricking sharp and cut nearly anything.
I do have the rotary cutter, and it does work great.
@@NerdWorkshop1 that is encouraging :) Sometimes using a box cutter is hard on the hands after a bit.
Really like your videos: clear voice, no unnecessary music, no fluff. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Lightspeedlagu
Great series! I really like the way you didn’t have a lot of extraneous stuff: just the necessary and interesting bits. Well done, sir! I do have one question: a few videos ago you mentioned repairing a ship in San Diego. Was that an error?
No, that was the optional rule we were playing in the game.
@@NerdWorkshop1 Cool. Would you mind sharing it?
Great video. Clear, concise. No annoying music. Well done, sir.
Thank You, and Thanks for watching.
I have the Compass Games version, I find it quite fun, good old school days of a wargame. Ty Nerd Workshop.
The compass one is a nice improvement to the game. all of them are fun to play.
Idk if it's just the camera but it juat looks all black to me, except for the red part
That is the way it is, it is just a blending process of the black going to the red.
Nice presentation, thanks, I own it as well. Have you played it solitaire? Your counter storage boxes are fantastic! Can you give me any information about acquiring them? Different sizes (1/2, 5/8, 1inch)? Thanks again.
I just designed them in a cad program and print them up on the 3D printer.
I had had a copy of this game once but sold it because I found it to be so one sided.
Yes it is, and so was the actual battle. But still fun to try and see how long you can last before being overrun.
Great review of a great game! Get the manouver cards if you can, they enhance your survivabilty if nothing else... My only reservation is the mentality of the players; all about getting the kill, not about completing the mission and surviving, but then where is the exitement in artillery spotting....
I did have those cards back with I had a subscription to the General. They are expensive now, but I think I got the pdf off or board game geek and printed up some.
Nice video I still play from time to time
I need to make some time to play it again. Thanks for watching.
I hate with a passion the fashion now of paper maps. Board mounted maps from AH were just perfect and I would gladly pay the little extra now for a game to have the maps mounted. This is a great nostalgic video for me. I still have my well loved PanzerBlitz/Leader games from those bygone years.
I still love this game too, and I always get the mounted boards, like you do, when they are available. Thanks for watching.
That looks like an early print edition with the dark green German counters. My copy has lighter green, much easier to read the numbers especially the teeny tiny squadron numbers
I ended up with two of them, one with the sleeve and one without. One does have a darker green counter. Thanks for watching.
What a pleasure to find your video. I played this great game years ago by mail (snail mail before email/internet). Thank you for playing this.
Back in the day that was the only way I was able to play the game. Getting that move by mail then going in the house and resetting up the board just to see what happen. It was a lot of fun.
It had some unique features as I recall. Airbase units representing ground crews, for instance. Something I don't believe I've seen in other games since, but actually quite realistic (and playable). Combat Results might have been a little different too. Fun game-- considering it was Avalon Hill :)
it is a fun game, but a bit simple compared to todays games. Although sometimes simple can be a lot of fun.
Nice descriptive video. I remember making those components, for some reason especially the buildings in the towns. My layout style is as I remember (instead of overly inflated); minimalist and spare. One important clarification: I was the developer of the game, not the designer.
Thanks you for letting me know. I tend to get some stuff wrong. Thanks for watching.
One of the most boring wargames I have ever bought.
it can be for sure.
you mentioned a custom sheet to keep track of each squadrons time in air, would it be possible to share with me?
I found it on boardgamegeek.com. just check out the Luftwaffe forum.
Panzerbush!
yes it was.
