Hello! Can you tell me how the shape of the case is designed? Do I understand correctly that this is what the designer does, he draws the shape of the yacht as an "artist"?

Helped Navy officers and civilian naval engineers prepare articles for reports and articles in professional publications. Oh brother, does this remind me of different tasks. Seakeeping, evaluating foreign warship designs and performance values, warship comparisons, and stability values. Great stuff!
Thank you for video s,You shd show atleast some basic analysis in the videos . Only you show the superficial part.
Thanks for the comment! Much appreciated. We are going into the details of FEA in the course. You will find more information about it here: navalapp.com/courses/finite-element-analysis-for-marine-structures/
Are you aware that classification societies most likely will not to accept stress results from a triangular mesh? Looking at your example model entire ship is meshed with triangular elements..
Thanks for the comment. Yes, we are. This is discussed in the course. Indeed, most classification societies usually request the models to be meshed with quadrilaterals. However, you can always try to justify meshing with triangular elements if you mesh enough (smaller element sizes) in the areas of interest because at the end you will have the same number of nodes. As said, this is discussed in the course. Although it is difficult to see in the video, you can see quadrilateral elements on it, for example in minutes 1:36 and 1:46. Many thanks!

what program do you use to design the boats on please
Rhinoceros
App name
The course teaches Rhinoceros: navalapp.com/courses/yacht-3d-modeling-with-rhino-level-2/
You need to change speaker, it really difficult to understand what is he saying (without subtitles)
is it only theoriucal or it is possible to practice in some way even with a home sewing machine to simulate a real loft
Hi, thanks for your comment. This is the link to the summary lesson of the course: navalapp.com/courses/sailmaking/lessons/wrap-up-sailmaking/ It gives an overview of the different topics discussed in the course. Additionally, when taking the course, you will have to work on a final assignment where you have to do a schematic drawing of a sail with as many details as possible as you have learned during the course. The drawing can be made using software or on graph paper. In both cases, it is important to use appropriate proportions of the sail and detailed dimensions as well as provide a general description of the sail, the boat, the rig, sail attachments, intended use, and provide a list of details included (panels, materials, corners and reef webbs, patches, battens, etc.)
Speaking as someone who worked as a sailmaker in my youth, it's perfectly possible to make sails for dinghies or small yachts on a home sewing machine especially if it's one of the old cast iron ones from the 50s and 60s. The Japanese machines from that era were particularly good and can often be bought very cheaply. For learning resources the nearest thing to a "standard work" on sailmaking I know of is "The Sailmaker's Apprentice". A lot of the book is really only relevant if you're making very traditional sails but the basic are there for evenmodern Dacron sails. Here on UA-cam there are series of old videos on Expert Village's channel covering the whole process of making a headsail from design all the way through finishing. And Sailrite's various videos on constructing and finishing sails are well worth watching. Hope this helps.
I would like to ask a blogger about a knowledge point. How do you know that the waterline will reach your design position exactly when the entire ship is built. Did you accurately calculate the total weight of the engine, sail, and everything else, and then correspond the weight to the displacement to obtain the displacement, and then calculate the height of the waterline based on the cross-section of the ship's bottom???? Looking forward to your reply. Thank you
Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes, weight calculation and distribution are an essential parts of the design. For that, we must consider systems like engines, etc., as well as the hull and superstructures themselves. We can calculate the waterline for a specific load condition when combining the weight and the weight distribution with the hull's shape. Load conditions could be, for example, the ship unloaded or loaded, with or without crew, etc. Everything has to be accounted for and controlled precisely from the design phase until the end of construction to ensure the ship will float at the intended design waterlines. We hope this helps.
@@navalapp Thank you for your reply! It gave me direction. I have always wanted to build a sailboat by myself since I was young, and now that I have time, I plan to try building my own sailboat.

Gacias, realizas cursos en español?
Hola!
I'm glad I didn't have any music when at boat building college in Falmouth learning about yacht design.... We used to say about slow boats that they had the coefficient of a brick!
2023 and people still haven't learned to stop using annoying music? Were you born under a rock?
No, under a barnacle.
there are a lot of small fabrication shops turning out alu boats from precut plates, the do not understand lines, they do not draw a body plan let alone loft and PROVE the offsets as sheerline, diags, w,ls and buttucks, even with computer generated offsets you need prove the lines and you NEED a body plan, that is sections, to lift things such as floors, frames, tank end I have 40 years of experience yacht building thanks this should assist people understand

Any feedback regarding this course!
Thank you. There are not much guidance on that software and any bit of information is precious.

Maxsurf is so incredibly painful to use (and yet expensive) - is there really is nothing better?
Thanks for the comment! Navalapp Students may be eligible for a Maxsurf Ultimate Academic Version License. You can read more about this offer here: navalapp.com/maxsurf-license/
@@navalappI know - but "academic" might not apply forever. And while that might make it more accessible to students, it still is a piece of software that is incredible painful to use. The question was more: Isn't there really no better software to use?
@@tcurdt Yes, there are many other software to use. We may also cover them in future courses. This course is about Maxsurf. Thanks!
Please get rid of music
Yes. We will. Thanks for the comment.
Gracias
Un placer!
I have a deadline tomorrow. I have never sailed in my life. Why am I watching this? its fascinating.
When i was 15 i wanted to be a sailmaker but i was told by college vocation guideance that "its a dying art " there are no sailmaakers taking on apprentices .😢so i embarked on another career .now at 80 i wish i had persisted . So
It's never too late! Thanks for sharing!
Good
Many Thanks!
It's possible to find the DWL with rhino?
Sorry for this very late reply. There is no an option in Rhino to find the DWL. However, you could think of some methodology to find, more or less, the DWL by approximations. But, the result would be an approximation and would not consider some other aspects like the trim or heel. But some specialized plugins (software) running on top of Rhino can calculate that automatically. One of them could be Orca3D. You can also design the hull in Maxsurf, and once you have obtained the hull you want, export it to Rhino.
seems like a formula with 2 unknown values....
