Keighley & Worth Valley Railway - Spring Steam Gala 2023
The KWVR’s annual steam gala was held over four days in March 2023, with excellent conditions thanks to heavy snowfall on the Wednesday and Thursday. Unfortunately I left my camera at home, so focused on iPhone video which is what is seen here.
Working across the event were visitors 45690 ‘Leander’, 44871 and 45407 plus the home fleet of 45596 ‘Bahamas’, 45212, 75078, 85, 52044 and 1054. 78022, originally rostered, did not feature.
An excellent weekend and thanks to all involved in making it happen.

Footage from the Ffestiniog Railway’s 2021 Bygones weekend, filmed over all three days on an iPhone. Footage is grouped by loco, and you will note the varying weather! Locos featured (not in order): England’s 'Prince', 'Palmerston', 'Welsh Pony', Double Fairlies 'Merddin Emrys' & 'David Lloyd George', Hunslet 'Blanche', Manning Wardle 'Lyd', Planet 'Upnor Castle' and the gravity train.

Some footage from a mostly wet or overcast week in Wales in August 2021. Mainly focused on the WHR, we see NGG16’s 130 & 87, plus Lyd and David Lloyd George filling in for a Garratt at the beginning of the week. The final shot is DLG at Tanygrisiau with a Back to Blaenau service.

2020 saw the normal ‘Vintage Weekend’ replaced by a more low key affair, termed ‘Bygones Weekend’, due to the various restrictions in force in Wales and the wider UK. Star of the show was ‘Welsh Pony’, now lines out and names during the weekend, which worked trips to Beddgelert and Blaenau Ffestiniog in addition to the now normal Tan-y-Bwlch shuttles. A collection of shots from August 2020, mainly of the FR’s shuttles between Porthmadog and Tan-y-Bwlch. One shot of the WHR and a bonus one of Welshpool. Almost fifteen minutes of Double Fairlie action! This is the video from ua-cam.com/video/LDkZxu8n85s/v-deo.html without the music and with the clips at original length. I’ve also included three clips which didn’t make the linked vid. Almost all clips are filmed in 2017/2018, and David Lloyd George, Merddin Emrys and Earl of Merioneth are seen on a mixture of service, vintage and freight trains.

Some shots from the excellent NYMR gala, held over 28th - 30th September. Visitors were in the form of 28xx No. 2857 (from the Severn Valley), Bulleid Light Pacific No. 34081 '92 Squadron' (BBLS/Nene Valley Railway), and 2'3" gauge 'Douglas' from the Talyllyn, which was on a wagon within the freight train. The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway held an event over June 22nd - 24th to celebrate the 125th birthday of ex Penrhyn Hunslets 'Linda' & 'Blanche'. Featuring no less than 19 Hunslets, a wide range of special trains were run on both railways, with Minffordd yard being a hive of activity on all three days. This video features trains out on the two main lines.

Sunday 20th May saw the NELPG's J27 No. 65894 make its long awaited return to service. The J27 is seen here on Monday 21st & Wednesday 23rd, working either 3 or 5 teaks. Interspersed are shots of B1 1264.

I know that it's just a song title, but these really ain't duplexes, duplexes have one 1 sided boiler, and 2 sets of driving wheels facing forwards-
🤓Technically🤓, a duplex just refers to any locomotive with two seperate sets of drivers and cylinders The term "duplex" is also used in a stricter sense to mean "rigid-frame duplex" (i.e. not articulated), which a Fairlie doesn't meet that requirement (due to being articulated). However, many rigid-frame duplexes have opposing cylinders, and there is nothing *inherently* preventing a rigid-frame duplex from being double-ended - just that a double-ended rigid-frame duplex would have no purpose and therefore be stupid (rigid-frame duplexes are mostly stupid anyway, there's a reason the US mainly uses articulated duplexes and the UK doesn't use duplexes much at all (other than the Fairlies - oh and early things like the Midland Compounds))

Splendid footage and that's the first 'like' on the board. I've got a holiday in Porthmadog booked for next August, but whether I'll be able to get up there before that it anybody's guess.
Fingers crossed! Hoping to get up in June again, all being well.
Your mobile phone gives much better resolution that mine, so I use a bridge camera or a compact. The bridge camera records in 4K, so I'm quite happy with the results. I sometimes consider getting a more expensive mobile though; it wouldn't be so much weight to luff around!
I’ve recently upgraded my phone and was impressed when just filming the garden railway. It is definitely a lot easier than lugging lots of stuff around!

three years ago me and my Dad visited the Ffestiniog railway in Wales and the passenger train we traveled on was pulled by one of these Fairlie Duplex engines which turned out to be a great adventure as the events 150 years ago

Prince and Linda are seen back to back, given that the FR normally keep locos facing up hill, was Prince turned by putting it on a low loader and turning the trailer around (As occasionally used to happen with standard gauge locos) or a crane, or does the FR have a turn table somewhere?
The Englands can be turned on one of the wagon tenders at Boston Lodge (splitting from the tender and turning separately). AFAIK Prince has faced Port since being returned from the SVR in September
