Dachau concentration camp was the prototype of nazi concentration camps. Prisoners lived in constant fear of brutal treatment and torture, at least 32000 people died in the camp. The SS totenkopfverbände guards were trained here to be as brutal as possible, forced labor was used as a method of torture and murder.

The Maulbronn monastery complex is one of the best preserved in Europe and was added to the world heritage list in 1993. It was founded in the 12th century and became the seat of the kingdom of Württemberg.
