Why oh why didn't some American producer or producers throw money at the writers and actors of AYBS, and tell them to make as MANY episodes as possible without dropping the writing quality any! What a massive missed opportunity!! John Inman gave them the opportunity and green light to set this up, but they didn't take this golden opportunity!
Omg I was at this interview and am on camera at 5:00. He was lovely, very funny and kind to all. I still have his autograph! What a fun night! Thank you for posting - brings back fond memories. I saw John Inman, Molly Sugden and Frank Thornton. 😊
Man we were robbed of a third season of grace and favor. It always felt the story was left in limbo with so much more to tell. it would have been such a conclusion to have mr humphries and mavis finally get married.
"get rid of the puff", just goes to show how clueless the higher ups can be. Mr Humphries sold the show, in fact if it wasn't for him it never would have taken off
Wowww, kind of ironic how he says he's a fan of the Golden Girls, but not Golden Palace... Meanwhile, in the US the general consensus is that people LOVE AYBS but didn't really care for G&F...and I believe it was TV Tropes or something that actually made the connection and pointed out the equivalence in fanbases for the other series across the pond
9:16 I find pleasure and comfort in knowing that John himself refers to G&F as what the UK version should have been called--"Are You Being Served? Again!"... G&F probably would have lasted longer had people actually given a toss to find out it was a sequel to AYBS
I actually remember this interview. I'm from Long Island and WLIW 21 was the PBS station where I watched a lot of classic British TV shows while growing up.
If you are going back to the 1980s with American sitcoms there are only five a Brit can name, Mock & Mindy, Mash, Happy Days, Golden Girls and Cheers. I can't think of a sixth. There is Friends but that wasn't until the late 90s at the earliest. There wasn't that many American sitcoms on UK telly back then.
This might sound odd but it was a line from AYBS? that helped me accept my bisexuality. Mr. Lucas had made the comment, "Still sitting on the fence, eh Mr. Humphries?" and he responded, "I prefer being a fence sitter! That way I get to see into both gardens." I'll always love you, Mr. Inman.
British comedy and movies are the best. USA is at the bottom of the food chain, all garbage shows and John Inman knew it, he was just being polite about liking US sitcoms🤣🤣 which is the British way.
Out of the countless thousands of actors I've seen in my lifetime, I'd have a hard time leaving anyone out of the main cast in my top 100 actors of all time...!!!
“Are you Free Mr Humphreys “? “I’m free !
He really was the star of the show .
❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The way he speaks is brilliant😊

John Inman (1935-2007) visited a number of PBS stations in 1993 that carried "Are You Being Served." Molly Sugden did as well.
Thank you Mr Inman for making laugh so much.
“You’re a nosey lot”. Lolololol😅

When did this interview take place
Mr. Inman made the show: Are You Being Served. I loved every actor - Molly, Wendy, Mr. Granger - but, the “poof” Mr. Humphries made the show. 🩷🩷🩷
How wonderful it would have been to meet him
RIP ,you left behind much laughter along with all the rest of the cast
He was outstanding in "Are You Being Served"?
If there was no Mr humpries . Are you being served wouldn't have been the fabulous show it was . Fantastic performance and wonderfully written ❤
was inman surprised when he became a celeb in the states?
Where's the blooper tape with the out takes?
