Is this really live steam or run by batteries?
It is real steam using butane as fuel.
Beautiful! I love Big John. Nice repaint. HLW made one Big John variation that I am aware of: Paul Bunyon. They are very hard to find. I'm glad I was alive for the brief but spectacular era of mass produced, American style, G gauge logging equipment.
We haven't seen you for a while. This snowy scene is outstanding. Still winter in new jersey.
Get a sand dispenser for wheel spin and slip. Nice railroad.❤
Great looking engine.
Very nice. I have to agree with other commenters, stress free and relaxing.
A wonderful railroad in a great winter scene. Hartland locomotives are becoming few and far between.
Absolutely brilliant. I love those old US engines with the pilot out the front. A truly great railway journey, thank you for letting me take the ride. Wonderful trackside features. Regards Tony Sadler South Wales UK🎉🎉🎉 👏👏🏴
Great Video Shawn ...
Gotta love those Hartland Big John’s. GREAT runners. Thanks for the video.
Another fun video. Thanks for sharing.
Love this!👌
Great video. Love the brake wagon.
Train running at it’s best! 🚂🤗
...may be a little lubrication may help!😂
No amount of lubricating helps in this cold weather
Scene at 1:56 is appealing.
Nice railroad.
Do you use track power, or battery?
I use battery and live steam.
Shawn Great work on your Alberta spruces ... Another great video. Thanks
very nice videos, may I ask how you secure the track on the trackbed: cement? glue?
I just use stone dust. The dust and stone hold track down and lets it move with weather. No glue or cement.
I love these engines. I have a Kalamazoo and a Hartland. They both have stripped gears. Someone told me many years ago that LGB gears fit. Haven’t tried it yet.
Such a wonderful engine. So dependable. And looks so comfortable on your track.
my 1st g scale locomotive was a hartland thhey are good runners
Right up my alley. I'm a lady steam engine fanatic.
Are your engines alcohol fired? Butane?
Butan
I love snow
Another fun video in the snow. Do you run your sparkies off battery or track power? Mine run off track power. A bit of a chore to clean off the steam oil. But I just have too many to put batteries into them all.
This is battery power. Very basic on/off switch. 1 speed

It's so romantic - great video!
Wonderful 😊
where are you located
Northwest NJ
Very nice Shawn !
Super fun.
Herrlich!
It's impressive ' thanks for sharing this video!
Excellent. Scale snow too!
Wow - this layout in the snow looks brillant! Many thanks for sharing this video.
Great video Shawn. You absolutely nail the realism. Thank you for sharing.
Great video! Does the line get snowed in at any point during winter?
If you look on his channel, he has videos where the snow is like 20 scale feet deep...
I usually keep it open all winter long.
@ Nice. This is my first winter with outdoor track in many years. I’ll see if I can keep it open.
Wow Welcome back Shawn
Beautiful railway! Particularly like your landscaping and planting
I’ve been falling in love with this new Shay, but I’m now binging all your videos enamored with your railroad!!! Do you mind if I ask what kind of trees you’ve planted, are they dwarf pines? Absolutely stunning. Thank you for the videos, so much inspiration for my new garden railroad 🔥
Thank you for the compliments. The trees are Dwarf Alberta Spruce, I keep them trimmed, usually once a year after new growth.
@@07461snowshoe Thanks very much for the info, and no problem, again really appreciate you sharing your layout and all the inspiration!! This is exactly the style of garden railroad I’ve wanted to build for at least 15 years, and I really haven’t found another example like yours. Awesome work.
Nice job. I love how your vegetation and forests have matured over the years! Great vid production as always. 👍
Your video looks like colorized pictures taken out of a book of a real backwoods logging railroad. Well done and thanks for sharing.
You have a great railroad. The buildings and especially the trees really look good.
I love this engine, cheers Fabrizio - like 1
Nice trestle👍🏻
I too have a lumberjack . great little engines
Simply beautiful
Hey Shawn, I have a couple of Davenports , I am wanting to convert them to battery RC, did you manage to convert your Davenport without having to have a trailing car for batteries ?
I was able to put the battery inside the engine. I took all the electronics out and installed the loco genie it.
@@07461snowshoe what type of battery have you used? Did you also take the weight out so the battery would fit
Awesome shay.
