Quest for a 2000 lbs pumpkin. Part 1
That's a lot of stuff 😮
Do you rotate patches or use the same patch each year and what are the size of your patches?
@@kengalaska1684 two of my patches this year were new so this will be my second year on them. Unfortunately most of my land is wooded so space is limited for me. I add additional soil and compost in the fall before planting my winter rye along with disease management products.
@@kengalaska1684 patches are between 1200-1500 square feet.
@@BNSGiantPumpkins I know a guy that could clear some of that for ya. And he is priced reasonably. He not to far from ya.
We like the woods I think we’ll keep them for now. Thanks
I'm rewatching many of your videos. Your last video of the season you mentioned that the 2501 "Storm" was pollinated with your friend's "Sib". Does that mean it was another 2501, as in sibling seed? Also, I can't find anywhere that you say what you pollinated your 2388 "Norm" with?
@@justtinkering6054 yes Storm (2501) was pollinated with another 2501 plant which will either improve the genetic or no impact will be seen. Norm was pollinated with Storm so 2388x2501. Hope that helps out.
I appreciate the "BONUS FOOTAGE" tremendously. It is a real testament to the genetics of these pumpkins. Thank you so much for sharing this. It is really nice to compare how well the neglected patch does versus the ones that are well cared for. Sort of a worst case giant pumpkin patch.
Beautiful pumpkins! 🎃🧡🎃🧡
Are the seed from the 1886 going to be for sale
@@gregh4065 yes they will be available after they dry out and are prepared.
@@BNSGiantPumpkins Please let me know when they are ready. Thanks
@@gregh4065 if you can email me in December at ws84048@gmail.com or look me up on Facebook at Bill Sexton. I have had so many requests for seeds it’s hard to keep track. Thanks
Enjoyed watching ever episode of your journey growing giants. Hope you do it again next year.
I don't suppose you know Mr. Liggett, eh? I' like to get my hands on the seed that grew your 1886. Of course, if you'll sell your seeds, I'd equally like to purchase some from you! Hopefully those nice orange genetics pull through to the next generation!
@@thegrandadmiral7963 I do know Doc. I will have seeds ready in the next month or so. Get back with me around December. Bill Sexton on FB.
@@BNSGiantPumpkins I'm afraid I'm not of FB. Are you on BigPumpkins?
@@thegrandadmiral7963 yes I am under BNS.
@@BNSGiantPumpkins Huh, my initial search for BNS didn't get any hits. I'll try again later. Regardless, my profile name is Johnny_Pumpkin_Seed.
Fantastic job. Third year grower? Man you have a bright future!
Congratulations on a great season! Thanks for sharing the journey with us.
Thanks for watching!
what's the seed on the 1886?
@@Reapzz55 2388 ligget
@@BNSGiantPumpkins Did you self it or cross with something?
@@Reapzz55 2388 x 2501
How many square feet are your plants and patch dimensions? Looking good!
@@Giantpumpkinswitheric approximately 1400 sq ft each. Thanks
I hope Norm gives you BIG NUMBERS 🧡🎃🧡
Your right, no leaving the garden during growing season. You’ve put in alot of work. Your pumpkins are beautiful! Good luck on weigh day!!🎃
Great looking pumpkins!
Thanks so much!
Can I ask what you're gonna do with it & how to be sure it's ripen and ready for harvest? Thanks. I'm growing bright red pumpkin from Etampes this year. Have two monsters but they look immature comparing to yours 😂
@@MrWookie21 do you have pictures of your pumpkins
@@BNSGiantPumpkins No sorry, I have also red Kuri squashes I started to pick up when the stem has become totally light brownish at the peduncle for storage. But am not sure for the pumpkins. Maybe I could make a video of those tomorrow.
I hope you'll sell seeds from Norman... it's a gorgeous pumpkin!
@@thegrandadmiral7963 Seeds will be available in a few months after she’s weighed and seeds are cured.
Good luck the rest of the way!
Love the color of that girl! I am not a betting man but I would bet a dime to a dollar you got the 4300, probably 4500! Job done well!
How often do you water a monster like Norm?
@@SageandStoneHomestead It depends on weather, rainfall, soil conditions and growing stage of the pumpkin. No rain here so they are getting watered at least 3 times daily. Moisture meters are a must.
@@BNSGiantPumpkins thank you for answering!!! With that much growth per day I figured they were thirsty!!
I do t know why but these silly phones, when you zoom in the audio turns down, not sure why they designed it to do that, but when you zoom in is more difficult to hear you. 😢
I think you’ve done a great job in a drought! 🎃🧡🎃
How often do you water if you don't get rain?
@@nikkipitts2748 with the heat we are having which is over 90 and the drought I have been watering 3 to 4 times a day for about 10 minutes each time on my automated system I set up that comes out to about 150 gallons per day +\-
Nice looking Pumpkin! Great work
@@RockyMountainBioAg Appreciate your products! They definitely make a difference.
Good looking pumpkins! I think I got all your rain at my house in Michigan!!🧡🎃🧡
Awesome looking pumpkins! When its dry, you control the water. Too much rain is probably worse for fungus. Good luck!
I’ve got that same lawn in Lawrence co. Thinking heavy thoughts, you’ve got two beautiful pumpkins!!!
Crazy weather. Driest it’s been since 1988.
Good Job!!!🎉
Looking solid.
I haven't hit 4" of rain yet this year. My well water is not great. It's a write off this year. Prepping a pump system to haul water out of my dugout that is a mile away next year.
Awesome!🎉
Thanks! 😄
I only have normal-size pumpkins, are we allowed to name those too, or is that just for the big ones?
Nice work, man. Looks good!
Nice pumpkins.
Darn good fruit.
@@docrodebaugh Thanks Doc!
Thanks 🤞
I think by the looks of it you’re doing everything just right! Good luck in reaching your goal.
Norm looks beautiful! 🎃🧡🎃
They look great, good luck in the remainder of the grow.
Definitely appreciate all the comments. a little behind my scheduled pace to hit 2K this year, but going to push hard to the finish line. Good luck to all.
Thanks for the update! Looking forward to seeing how things progress! Good luck!
Thank you for sharing the pumpkin surgery!
Got that crunchy lawn down in Lawrence co. also, my water bill gonna be through the roof! Pumpkins look great best of luck rest of the way.
Thanks for showing that surgery, I may have have to do that and I wasn’t exactly sure how. Looking forward to updates.
Going to need it! Thanks
Thanks for sharing, best of luck!
hope it heals up for you! good luck!
Nice job with that
That’s tough, trust the process. I like the pattern that pumpkin is displaying she’ll be pretty
Looking very solid considering the heat and weather. Keep on them.
