Join us as we take on the stunning Kareri Lake trek, an adventure filled with breathtaking landscapes, challenging trails, and heartwarming moments! 🌄
Our journey began with a serene sunrise, viewed from the terrace of The Hosteller in Kareri Village-a perfect start to our day. After a hearty breakfast, we hopped into a cab arranged by the hostel staff and headed to the trek's starting point. Stocking up on chocolates for energy, we began our ascent with loud chants of "Jai Mata Di."
Barely a kilometer in, we met Tango, the hero of our trek! 🐕 This cheerful mountain dog adopted us for the journey, guiding us through every twist and turn of the trail. Initially, we called him Sheru until a café owner revealed his true name. Tango’s boundless energy inspired us as we navigated steep stairs, narrow paths, and high-altitude challenges.
At around 8 km, we were greeted by patches of snow, signaling the magical winter wonderland ahead. By 6 pm, under the dimming sky, we reached Goodies Café, a cozy campsite run by Aman (aka Justin Bhai). Though the lake was just 200 meters away, darkness and fatigue kept us from venturing further that night. Instead, we enjoyed a comforting dinner of rajma chawal and retired early in our tents under the starlit Himalayan sky.
The next morning, after a hot cup of tea and breakfast, we made our way to the frozen Kareri Lake. Words can’t do justice to the sheer beauty of the half-snow-covered valley! 🌨️ While the hidden frozen patches tested our balance, the serenity and grandeur of the lake made every step worthwhile. We explored the area, spotting bear paw prints, animal carcasses, and bones-a reminder of the wilderness around us.
Tango, as fearless as ever, darted through the snow while we carefully navigated the terrain. After spending 2-3 hours soaking in the views and capturing memories, we began our descent. Exhausted but exhilarated, we ended our trek by treating Tango to a well-deserved omelette meal. 🥚
