Grey Ghosts
United States
Приєднався 4 січ 2024
We have a love of outdoor activities, including trapping, hunting, fishing, and recreation. Our goal is to have fun in the outdoors, educate people about trapping and its benefits, and teach others about managing their resources in a professional, ethical manner. If you disagree with our thoughts or actions, kindly move along. Not everyone can live in the Southeastern United States, and, as a result, can't possibly understand how we live or why we do things the way that we do. We will not tolerate attacks on individual trappers or trapping as a whole. When you have put your feelings aside, have done significant research on the benefits of trapping, and have developed respect for those with whom you disagree, we would love to have you watch our channel videos.
Danny and Brad are both licensed trappers and are proud members of the Mississippi Trappers Association and support the National Trappers Association and Fur Takers of America.

Caught Exiting the Back Door 12,10,24
Our catch of the day was a 50 pound female. We had to do several resets on traps and snares, but we should be in good shape for catches over the next couple days.

Heavy Rain Washes Out Sets 12 9 24

After 1.65" of rain in the past 24 hours, everything was disturbed. With a few traps and snares reset and debris cleared, we are hoping for another beaver catch tonight.

Persistence pays off. We have been ramping up pressure on this colony for a good while now. Thankfully, our efforts are continuing to pay dividends. The catch has been slow, but with 3 beavers and a nutria removed, the land owner is happy and we are still working to add to our totals.

Our beavers are either really smart or they are really lucky. We are going to keep working until we get them.
Adding Beaver Snares in the Cold

Northeast Mississippi doesn't see temps in the teens on the daily. Working in weather below freezing is definitely not the norm. However, we gear up and get things done.
H1B1 Dummy Dirt Hole Test
Переглядів 2619 годин тому
Our H1 & Done has proven to be a great call lure when misted onto branches or the backing of a dirt hole set. Now we are blending it with other ingredients to develop a bait used in our dirt holes and punch hole sets. The first hole in this video has a mixture of several commercial baits. There was definitely interest, but our second hole was destroyed where we placed our H1B1 bait.
Pull Day for one Property 12 5 24
Переглядів 1,2 тис.21 годину тому
After 3 weeks, its time to move traps to a new property. We had 7 traps here and caught a grey fox and a large male coyote. We will be back in 6 weeks or so to try it again. These traps were anchored with Wolf Fang Anchors on 12" cables secured by the NE Mississippi red clay.
Opossum Catch and Release 12 5 24
Переглядів 1621 годину тому
Catching a opossum was not our objective, so Brad shows the animal being safely released and shows the trap design that minimizes any potential harm caused to the animal. This greatly decreases the potential to injure and allows trappers to safely release any animal that is caught unintentionally.
Girl with a Bad Attitude 12 4 24

This female is a yelper. This is the second coyote caught in this trap, with a bobcat having been caught just 25 feet away. She had no issue letting me know of her displeasure about being caught. Her right front foot had a small nick, so I treated it with Duravet Scarlet Oil Wound Dressing spray (it is not blood).
Damage Control 12 2 24
Переглядів 32День тому
Why is Beaver trapping done in the first place? Beavers, muskrats, and nutria all burrow into the bank to create their dens. Over time, these dens can cave in creating large sink holes in the surrounding area. Removing these animals from that area is a necessary, yet temporary fix to the problem. Trapping must be done year after year to control the population and the damage that these animals c...
Beaver on the Board 12 1 24

Persistence pays off. This fellow made us use most every trick on our list, but don't worry, we still have a couple that no one has seen yet.
I have that puller to works good.
Nice! Would like to see the beaver taken out of the snare. Hard by yourself without a tripod. Great job!!!
@@wecandrone864 That snare was so tight it had to be cut with linesman pliers on the bank. The locks don't allow backwards movement unless you can get at least a finger under the cable. We then used cable cutters to get the cable off of the beaver's neck back at the shop.
love the looks of that small channel snare.
chipping away at them .
What’s a dive rod and porpoise of the dive rod?
@@Phillijr100 Dive rods and cables have the foothold trap attached to them. When the beaver gets caught, they dive to deeper water. The slide lock with the trap chain attached will slide down the rod or cable which is anchored in deep water. The lock will not allow the trap chain to go back up which holds the beaver in deep water causing it to quickly drown.
@ neat! Thanks for the explanation 👍
a 330 in the small channel with a dive stick on top of it would be deadly . hope you catch them.
Def cold!
great results on the test.
the puller worked pretty good.
@@judithdandavis2206 According to my grandfather, it was a wagon axle. It's 1 1/4", weighs about 15 pounds, and has been used for a lot of various tasks. I used a short chain around it with a carabiner clipped to the anchor cable.
Nice release. Great info about the trap’s design and the ethical treatment of both targeted, and non targeted species.
@@wecandrone864 We do more than the law requires to take care of the animals, both the ones we are trapping and the ones that we need to release.
Getting it done! 👍😊
Oh Wow!!! Had no idea they could dig under the bank like that. Dangerous!!!
did a great job showing the damage they can do .
@@judithdandavis2206 Thanks. The teacher in me likes showing and explaining my actions. I know some people don't agree with trapping, but hopefully informational videos like this helps explain our position a little more clearly.
You will need some good tricks for some educated animals such as beaver and coyotes.
nice big beaver . its mate is still in there . good luck on the sets .
😂 Brad said he didn’t think a streak of lighting was that fast 😂as that cat
Great Job!
I enjoyed tagging along!
@@chucklandry5588 we were glad to have you. Enjoyed our time together.
nice coyote catch on your lure .
@@judithdandavis2206 We are having really good success. We are trying combinations with lots of things. H1 is getting it done.
Very deeeeeeep little creek. About 2 feet from the dam is over my hipboot 😮
Looks so pitiful.
they get smart and wise to the 330's . the footholds will work . good luck .
@@judithdandavis2206 We started out playing clubs, but we are in to our spades now. Time for another catch.
Get after ‘em. 👍👍👍
How long did it take you to run, and set everything up, on this run? You were busy!
@@wecandrone864 A little over two hours.
Appreciate You!!!
@@wecandrone864 We are trying and will succeed with patience.
there are a lot of short tailed nutria this season. frostbite, i guess
Below that dam is very soggy lol have to watch your step 😅
She was a bit sassy. 😂😂😂
Why do you take them alive
We have a live market in Ms. We sell them to fox pens. For field trials for fox hounds.
@@rodneyrote6261 We have a local buyer who owns a "fox pen" where they are used to train dogs.
@@GreyGhostsOutdoorsMS Out in Utah raccoons have been used to train cougar hounds. That may be an issue down south with so many raccoons around, the dogs would be dizzy!
doing good on the coyotes .
@@judithdandavis2206 Our H1 & Done is doing the trick.
Healthy Critter! Great Job!
nice catch on the coyote . hope the problem beaver move for you , i had a blank check today , nothing moved .
@@judithdandavis2206 If that's the case, then we are in good company. Maybe the cooler weather will help.
if the beaver keeps plugging the 330 with mud , use it as a decoy and put a leghold in front of it . i had to do that to catch a smart problem beaver .
this should be interesting , not used it on floats yet . congrats on the cat .
@@judithdandavis2206 We know how good that Alpha Delta is. I'm expecting both floats to have one each tomorrow.
@@GreyGhostsOutdoorsMS they have to be there to catch . hope they do for you .
How much does the float rig weigh with the 330 in it? Can’t wait to see what y’all catch.
@ About 20 pounds. It's made from plywood, 2x4, and dense foam board.
alpha delta castor lure has caught its first wolves for trappers . 2 in Idaho and one in Montana , plus marten and fox .
@@judithdandavis2206 That's awesome. I hope that success brings you even more sales.
@@GreyGhostsOutdoorsMS me too .
nice grey fox release . try you a castor mound set for the beaver location, they will bulldoze anything it is on .
@@judithdandavis2206 We have 2 floats that are going out tomorrow with some of your Alpha Delta Castor Lure on them. Maybe a couple of snares too. The beaver are active so we are going to strike hard at them.
Nice Catches!
@@drumgodtim Thanks. It's always exciting to ride up to a set.
The ditch is about 15 to 20 feet deep with almost straight up banks
that bridge will be awesome, it is worthy of a bunch of sets. might have to rig it up on drags so as to not blow the area out.
What do you do with live coyotes
@@rodneyrote6261 A local buyer gets them for his "fox pen".
nice catch , the weather had the movement slowed down .
@@judithdandavis2206 I was surprised to see one in the trap. It pays to set and pays to check.
nicely done , good action at the sets .
They usually scream real loud and some have runnnn . This young lady was a real trooper.
Outstanding!!!
looks like a great presentation . hope the kids liked it .
@@judithdandavis2206 We had a blast. Two of my former students were in the class. I think they really liked it.
Oh, they work like a charm, took plenty of bobcats in the 90’s with these boxes before Washington screwed up there trapping regulations. I they do add some weight to your line. I switch to the square-ish cat litter buckets because stacking them is easier and lighter.
@@icelandviking1961 Thankfully our state, Mississippi, has the attitude that predator management helps keep hunted game species up. We have no intention to "catch them all", just keep the predator/prey populations where both remain healthy.
Conibear trap in a box.
nice set up on the quad .
@@judithdandavis2206 This is how I run traps during the day. When Danny gets free, we tackle the rest in his side by side.
nice easy cheap project. looks great .
@@judithdandavis2206 Thanks Dan. We are always looking to make our own stuff and save money, too.
love fishing below the dam . lots of stripers .
