Set four years after The Last of Us (2013), the game focuses on two playable characters in a post-apocalyptic United States whose lives intertwine: Ellie, who sets out in revenge for a murder, and Abby, a soldier who becomes involved in a conflict between her militia and a religious cult.

    As a man with a normal functioning brain, I loved the game 👏🏿. Loved the characters, story, didn't love that Ellie never asks why when finally confronted in the theater, loved Abby beating the shit outta Ellie 😂 (to this day that tells me joel was eith a bad dad or never cared enough for Ellie to never teach her that she cant rely on that butter knife forever, teach her how to fight make her skinny ass eat more train a little bit. But when that knife got lost ellie immediately went to girl fighting arm flailing tactics 🤣. I said Abby u have to kill her on principle for being that weak in this world) I didn't care joel died in the beginning, he got what he deserved 🤷🏿‍♂️ i love his character but im not gonna bs like he was a good man. Tommy told us he has nightmares of them days so Joel was on some murder death kill bandit to innocent people. So when he got that 9 iron to the dome i just was like damn well thats 1 down lol karmas a bitch. All in all 9/10 game 🎮 🙌🏿. However on grounded permadeath game is a 3/10! I never experienced a glitch or crash or death in the game till that difficulty combo. Save dina from the infected at the end of the train level & apparently on grounded or permadeath game will cheat if u use certain weapons to kill u as the clicker will kill grab u. Every other difficulty never seen this using any other weapon! I fell through the map with ellie & jesse 3 times! In the car getaway with jesse the game ignore the button promt to getbthe infected off me & that forced me to die i checked settings & saw i did press the right button my controller was perfectly fine & it worked in other games & when i reached it again it worked fine! Same level btw car glitches & ellie stayed stuck in the car as it sat underwater..... had to quit out redo level for the 15th time 🤬. Abby levels the balance beam parts all of them skyscrapers & barn while on them the game without warning will randomly fling abby to the left to kill her.... this happened over 60 times combined. Thanks to forums i learned a wiggle the stick trick & that worked for the skyscraper not for the burning barn! This game was just non stop cheating bs on the road to platinum. Abby & ellie fight omfg..... i been mastered the game but again grounded permadeath is cheating! I could get to the basement below & she would have damn spiderman senses to spin her ass around & shoot me or if i bottle her ass & rushed her she'd recover perfectly in time. Then her nailbombs were sometimes invisible 🤦🏿‍♂️. I even had to look up a guide on it did exactly what the guy did at the same speed for her to still kill me which solidified my rating atp & hate for whoever made that dog shit. Funny thing is with all the combat & bosses NO ISSUES! Beat 1st try with no real effort or waste of supplies. My only deaths were basically 100% unavoidable not my fault. Ill say at most 2 times in the town b4 jesse did i get killed cause i wanted to stop sneaking & be a bit aggressive + them dogs hurt 😂. Oh the abby in the Forrest after lev & yara save her from hanging, had that break to where i was fighting an infinite wave of enemies with bare hands. I had to delete the game to fix that bs. I hate devs who half ass a game mode then don't fix it or offer solutions like Kingdom come deliverance crashes but they never added the ability to just save at any time any place. U can't predict a crash its random af & for me to lose a level of progress is insane but imagine if i was on restart the whole game.... thats building shooter in gta levels of rage & time wasted for things deaths not my fault. I think i still have em recorded on ps5 too so i know im not crazy 😂.

      Them switching Joel's character model in the trailer wasn't because they wanted to lie so that they can sell more, they wanted to protect the story and throw people off. I do think that the fake out trailer was a bad decision, and the writers have expressed that they regret it. A big part of this story only works under the condition that you don't know what happens next, so when it surprises you, it provokes certain emotions from you, and then challenges those emotions by offering perspective. I get why you're angry if you bought the game thinking that Joel would have a bigger role, but the story only works without you knowing what's going to happen. If you expect Joel to die, it's not as impactful. When it comes to Joel being "dumb", I never understood that argument. What is it that Joel does prior to his death that you consider dumb or out of character? Because I don't think he did anything reckless.

    I have so many conflicting feelings about this game, which from an art piece, I think is the point. The story being so carefully crafted to make you care about people who have done terrible things to other characters that we already love and grieve for is honestly one of the highlights of modern games. But at the same time, its difficult to truly parse out what was intended by Druckman and co. because of some of the awful things he's said regarding Palestinians in the last year, regarding Gaza and Israel's campaign against them, and deflecting blame onto the people in this scenario who are largely helpless. For a person who wrote a story seemingly meant to make you truly consider the humanity and personability of those you might initially consider to be enemies, its deeply disappointing that his principles on these things don't extend into the real world, despite him clearly thinking on it. It's one thing to separate the art from the artist, but it makes me wonder how a person can be so publicly supportive of the idea of humanizing your enemy and understanding why they do what they do in order to end cycles of violence, while simultaneously supporting a cause that routinely dehumanizes and perpetuates those same cycles of violence he purportedly wants to end.

    • @rakzplayz

      @obsequiarch7271 День тому

      @rakzplayz if I could, I absolutely would. It's a difficult thing even looking at art in general, because art is so often created from a place of conflict. But that place of conflict, whatever manifestation it takes, is also exactly what makes it relatable. We're all messed up at some point in our lives, and pushing our prejudices to their logical conclusions is a really hurtful, but also really beneficial thing in allowing us to grow into the people we want to be, and not just who our experiences may turn us into.

    • @johngrizis
      @johngrizis 13 годин тому

      Damn that's ironic. I guess this is the kind of stuff I tend to avoid by not being on twitter/X. So many great artists that I admire for years tend to say or do something contradicting their entire character, and that makes me very conflicted about their work afterwards. I've gotten to the point where I've come to expect and accept that this kind of thing happens all the time, probably because everything those people do gets put under a microscope constantly, so it's easy to find contradictions in their character, whereas no one would really care if I was being a hypocrite. Even though these people have a lot of fans who admire them, we tend to forget that they're still people, who are flawed in their own ways. "All my heroes are cornballs" and that's okay.

The emptiness and depression that I felt post Joel was later intensified by the deaths of Nora, Mel and Owen (who actually saved Ellie). Getting to know the characters through Abby’s POV was really painful knowing their fate, and Manny’s death scene gave me a heart attack. I’m not saying that Abby’s crew aren’t horrible, they’re but I deeply felt the shock and sadness that Ellie felt from their deaths. Yet what made me appreciate the story more is that ND wasn't trying to make you like Abby as what other people say ND wanted to ask us, "Can you empathize a person you hate?" Since we're like Ellie, we saw someone we love die right in front of us and are blinded by revenge to take them down, but once we start to play Abby things are not so black and white, for me in Ellie's campaign from Day 2 - 3 I got more and more unsettled by the amount of blood shed Ellie brings to the Wolves that I even ask myself even if Ellie did kill Abby and her friends would it be enough because even if she did kill her Joel is still dead and it wouldn't change anything. For Abby, as I kept playing her campaign, I've been slowly warming up to her. I didn't like her, but I wanted to see where this story was heading. Then I realized that Abby and Ellie are 2 sides of the same coin of revenge. Here's I interpret it. If revenge is the drug, Ellie is going through an addiction while Abby is going through the withdrawal period. This is a great video, and I'll see what more you bring with your video essays.

      @rakzplayz I agree. For me, I'm in this unique position for Part 2 since I never played Part 1 back in 2013 and was completely unaware of the controversy of Part 2 so I was lucky enough to play Part 2 completely blind. Though I feel for the ending, it would be better if it had multiple endings since really this game is about empathy and seeing Abby at the stakes they'd give us the option to decide her fate.

    Also, it’s worth noting that when Ellie initially gets the drop on Owen and Mel, she’s tells them “you both can live, I just want Abby”, she was still recovering mentally from torturing Nora the night before, something she had never done before. They were also unarmed unlike the WLF and Serphites we met along the way. She tried to be Joel and use his map technique but failed spectacularly, and Owen’s last blood mumbled word was “pregnant”. Ellie breaks down and has a panic attack because it hits too close to home, plus she already didn’t want to kill either of them by that point. There was a reason why Tommy tried to talk her outta all of this back in Jackson, he knew what kinda mission this was gonna entail and he knew Ellie wasn’t prepared for it. He knew that even in a successful mission, it was gonna change her forever, not everyone can be Joel like

    Only just started but I’d like to add that I believe Ellie’s Day 1 is the way it is, especially exploring downtown, was for everyone to catch their breath. It felt like they wanted to not only ease you into Part 2, but to also give you an easy / relaxing section to grieve Joel’s death. Gave us time to process and think about everything that just happened, as well as calm us down a bit after that emotional scene

    Wow, what an experience! You had me glued to a one-hour-long UA-cam video, and I must say, the way you crafted it was nothing short of amazing, regardless of the opinions you expressed about the game. The seamless transition between narrating the story and sharing your feelings was impressive. You brought up several points I hadn’t considered-some I agreed with and others I didn’t. That being said, The Last of Us Part I remains one of the best games I’ve ever played. It easily lands in my Top 3 of all time. I cried during many segments, and no other game or movie has moved me to tears within the first 10 minutes. The Last of Us Part I did. Naturally, my anticipation was sky-high for The Last of Us Part II. This sequel has indeed divided the gaming community. Personally, I’m torn, but if I had to pick between loving or hating it, I’d lean towards hate for The Last of Us Part II. Your video delves into the game's quality, and I don’t think anyone can deny that. The production value is phenomenal, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in gaming. It feels 10, maybe even 15 years ahead of its time. But the issue for me lies in the story progression and the choices the developers made. No, I didn’t want to play as Abby, even though I grew to like her, and I disliked some of the things Ellie was forced to do. Abby could have killed Ellie twice, yet the game compels you to seek revenge. I found that part of the narrative hard to buy into and didn’t enjoy it. I also disagree with your take that we can’t be mad at Naughty Dog for killing Joel. It’s not just that they killed him; it’s how they did it and the subsequent forced perspective shift to the character who killed him. While I can appreciate the brilliance behind this choice, it didn’t sit well with me. There were many directions in the story that I didn’t like, and I felt less connected to this game than to the first one. Some parts, especially from Abby's perspective, felt almost boring. You mentioned this in your video, and it was a significant negative point for me. I felt disappointed that Naughty Dog chose this narrative route for the second game, given the brilliance of the first. I often wonder what could have been if they had taken a different approach. Despite my disagreements, your video was truly outstanding. You have a fantastic way of expressing your thoughts and feelings, and I appreciated many of the insights you focused on. One last question for you: You refer to both Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Last of Us Part II as GOAT. If you had to choose one, which would it be? :)

    • @rakzplayz
      @rakzplayz 2 дні тому

      Thank you so much, I totally understand the hate. It has willingly divided the fans through it's story. And for the question, I'll just about choose TLOU2 over RDR2 for it's gameplay. It's just so fun to play in my opinion.

    There's absolutely zero reason to hate this game. And this IP is the only reason why I picked back up on PlayStation.
