The National Day of Catalunya/Catalonia is the 11th September. Here is a short video of some of the locals, old and young celebrating this important day.
Girona is an ancient medieval city, dating back more than 2,000 years! The ancient city is very well preserved, especially it's 13th-century Jewish Quarter. It's a beautiful place to visit for a cultural day trip, with a quick train ride from Barcelona, or a short car journey. But it's also a great place to holiday for longer, as it has such a huge choice of restaurants, cafes & bars, interesting places to see and great apartments to rent! Plus, it has quite the International feel, as besides being a bi-lingual city (Spanish and Catalan are both native languages to the locals), English is also widely spoken, as well as a variety of other languages. We have also found the local people to be very welcoming, friendly (especially if you have a dog!) and generally pleasant to be around! And they love to celebrate!
These days Girona is very popular with athletes, particularly cyclists and triathletes, apparently largely due to the fact that Lance Armstrong put it on the map back in the day! These athletic types bring a real buzz and energy to the area, but it's not just about the bike! (Lance Armstrong quote there!!)
Girona has a wonderful appeal for us Over 50's, as there are plenty of things to see and do, both within the city, and further afield. Today's video is just a quick snapshot, taken in Placa del Vi, in front of the Town Hall, in the Old Town.
