Comparing Caran D’Ache Neocolor 1 vs Neocolor 2
What is the difference between Caran D’ache’s water soluble Neocolor 1 artist crayons to their wax based Neocolor 2’s? Neocolor 1’s are one of the post popular artist crayons out there but how do the Neocolor 2’s compare and do they have a place in your artist tool kit?

wow you have so many! this is really interesting, I have the 2s 🥰
I do have a lot ☺️, im glad you found it interesting
this is a bit of a silly request, but can I ask hoe you customised your art supplies trolley? Im trying to improve mine
It’s not that silly…. I’m always playing around with them too ☺️ but currently my set up seams to work. the top levels are items I reach for the most, like paint brushes, Posca pens, pencils. Second layer is items I use frequently, like gesso, crafting paper. The bottom layers are for bigger heavier items or things I dont use as often but want to have easy access too, like colour charts, and all my different types of palettes. Hopefully this helps. Finding the right layout of them can really help with the flow of your creative process 😃 Enjoy creating!
Thank you for the reply! It's given me great insight!
I’m so sorry you had to deal with those acrylic paints! 😢I don’t know what I’d do if the acrylics I used smelled because I absolutely can’t stand using art supplies that have strong odors. It’s why I stay far away from oil paints as well. It might help to use masks or use the paints in a well ventilated room (but I don’t have access to either of those :( so I can’t say for sure if that’d help with the migraines)
THank you, it was tough, but they have gone too a new home and I hope they are enjoyed. What brand of paint do you use?
@@leahevergreenart I mainly use Liquitex basics because they were the cheapest haha. I have a few professional artist loft paints which are nice, though I can't seem to get artist loft level 1 acrylics to work well with me!
@@camelliaharpdarkthrope6462 I feel like not every brand is for every artist, it can be for many reasons.. smell.. or how it handles when using. Or even how it dries. If you’ve found one that works for you, thats wonderful.
Matte acrylics are NOT acryla gouache!
this looks stunning, watched and enjoyed till the end 😊😊
Oh, so glad you enjoyed it ☺️ Thank you
I want to know you like me and my company isn't a burden. I also want to stay home with my Twinings English Breakfast, my cats, and the short story I'm writing. 😂
Yes
I would never invite you more than once if that is your behaviour
💯 Agreed! I fall into the ambivert category, so I do understand the social burnout introverts feel after social gatherings but don't expect people to keep inviting you, if you aren't respectful enough to attend the event or gathering. Sometimes it's good to get out of the comfort zone and experience life! 💛

Right. Invite me. I'm going to say no but still the invite is nice.
Haha it is nice to be invited

Nevermind, I watched further on and you picked orange! 😂

Thank you for letting me know ☺️
@ just found your channel I have to catch up 😊
Yes!
I like to draw while I'm waiting.
So soothing and helpful, right?
Breaks me heart you don't like the wonderful Sennelier oil pastels. The best way to use them is as the final layer of a watercolor painting or to put the final touches to a watercolor or any other medium like a harder oil pastel. Senneliers are wonderful but not everybody likes them because they are too creamy.
Thank you ❤ for sharing this idea ! I have a painful chronic illness and I am at drs offices a lot …it never occurred to me to bring my art supplies in a neat small case to entertain and relax myself before the appointment ! I imagine it will feel waaaay better than looking at my cellphone .❤
Oh you’re welcome ☺️, I used to scroll on my phone but that just makes it worse I find. I hope this helps you during your next appointment.
I love this video...I am one of those who do not show their art to anyone... and i really felt seen in this video... thank you for sharing❤
You’re welcome ☺️ happy creating and being true to your creative needs
Loved the haul! I really wanted the POSCA white pen for highlighting. I still haven't been able to purchase one.
I do love using it, hopefully you feel the same once you are able to get your hands on it. I will not that some times it will have the colour underneath bleed into the white. Like for example if I am using an Ecoline Watercolour marker, the ink for that is strong and I often dont wait for it to 100% dry before I lay my Posca down. But I still love the look it gives so I use them all the time.
I really like the Pablo pallete. I wont lie, i also like the Luminance pallete. I am a pencil collector and artist. Im not sad that i got both sets. Having a ton of fun.
I have the 76 set of Luminance and was surprised how chalky they were. I’m going to use them, but I don’t see myself replacing them as they run out. The Pablos are actually my favorite colored pencil over all. I have the 12, 18, 40, and 120 set. The only pencil that is scratchy from time to time is the Ultramarine. Caran d’Ache, like all other brands, struggles with the blue to blue violet pigments.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I will say, that I love my ultramarine Luminance, it is smooth but there are times when it will have a bit of scratch, I’ve recently run into that this week, though I’m not surprised. Ultramarine is a grainier pigment overall for most things.
The packing peanuts in your video will not hurt your dogs. They are made of corn starch and dissolve in water. I wish everybody would use them!
Oh that is good to know, thank you. I do love it when companies use eco friendly supplies. Which is why i like to recycle/reuse shipping supplies with my orders.
Great video , very interesting. I’m going to try a colour wheel but are not clear on which are the primary colours in this set. I suspect that none are but You seem to have chosen lemon yellow, alizarin crimson and cerulean blue whereas for me the more obvious ones would be cadmium yellow, cadmium red pale and ultramarine. Btw I’m a total beginner so likely to be totally wrong. Windsor and Newton are not that helpful on the website. So would be interested to understand the reasons for your choice.
This pan set provides two types of primary colour options, warm and cool colours. It will all come down to which colours you prefer, It may be helpful to learn the pan set by mixing multiple colour wheels with the colours that you get. That way you can see what colours you can create with them. In the end you may love how the lemon yellow and ultramarine make greens or how the intense blue and alizarin make purples. Happy exploring your watercolours
@@leahevergreenart thanks for speedy reply and as i start my watercolour journey can already see that much is a personal choice. You may be interested to know that when I asked Winsom and Newton the same question they replied “In this set, the 3 best colours to use as Primary colours that will give you lovely ranges, violets and greens are Yellow Lemon Hue, Alizarin Crimson Hue and Ultramarine Blue.”
I have a Luminance that's quite scratchy and doesn't behave like the others - the Chrysocolla Blue, a bright turquoise. I just assumed it's the pigment because it was one of the newer colours at the time, so I kept it. But I rarely use it now.
Thank you for sharing which colour you have that scratches ☺️ that must be frustrating
That’s so annoying, I’ve also had medical issues that were straight up ignored by doctors AND my parents. I’m glad you’ve found art and that you’re sharing your story! ❤
It can be very frustrating but art has allowed me to find the balance and breath i need. I hope you too have found a way to bring peace and joy.
Are the Pablo’s similar to polychromos?
I find them to be similar in hardness for sure and for how sharp a point I can make with them.
No, not similar in my opinion. Caran D'ache Pablo & Luminance are more pigmented and way more wax than oil. Pablo are harder cores than the Luminance. But Polychromos are more oil based and a hrader transparent pigment. Pablo and Poly work very well together. Just my opinion.
Very helpful video
So glad you think so ☺️
In my experience the only one that's scratchy from Luminance is the Cassel Earth, all the rest behave just beautifully! ❤
@@veystone2580 Thank you for sharing which Luminance you have experienced as scratchy.
Cassel Earth is definitely a sratchier pigment but still a great color so I'm ok with it.
Actually ALL colored pencils are made from BOTH oil and wax. Depending on the pertange of each they are then classified as an oil or wax colored pencil. Pablos are classified as WAX pencils as well as the Luminance. Caran d'Ache does not sell oil based pencil. Although as I explain they both have oil too. But to say Pablos are an oil and wax pencils is confusing cause ALL colored pencils are.
I think the Pablos may be like Polychromos. You get full intensity by making several light layers, not by pushing hard. As opposed to, say, Prismas which you can smoosh on at full intensity.
I can see that comparison, as my polychromos are soft in colour but hard in lead (or core) and are best used layering.
Chronic illness is horrible and as no one cant see it thet dont get it. I have fibromyalgia OA OP and other issues. I met a few others at an informal art group and so many have illnesses too. Its good to know im not alone. Art and the group has been awesome
It is very hard when your chronic illness is invisible and others can’t see it or understand. Im so glad you found art and have a group you can lean on.
this is so good ☺☺
@@ChantelleArts oh thank you ☺️
I have a full set of both and like the both. There are some colours in the new 24 that are scratchy in the Luminance. Thank you for the comparison. Keep creating 💜💙💛
I think using them together is 👍 great. THank you, happy creating as well ☺️
The scratchiness is because certain pigments make it harder. So the core isn't as soft as most of the luminence. I forget which ones off the top of my head have the problems. If you watch people who swatch all the colors you'll often here them remark on the ones who are scratchy compared to most. You can even here the difference when they go down. Same with watercolors some pigments are just harder to deal with just like us humans. 😂
Thank you for sharing this, ☺️
I love my small 30 set of Pablo colors. I only have 2 Luminence.
@@michaelbusby1802 oh that is great! I know i want more of them cause of how lovely they lay down and how easy it is to have those soft colours.
Very informative video. Thank you
So glad you think so ☺️ hopefully it helps. Happy creating
Because no pencil that is sold in the United States contains lead any longer it is now referred to as a core
No pencil ever contained lead
wow these are cool 🥰
Thank YOU ☺️
Those are so cute! Random question - what are you using for a paint palette in this video? I've been using a variety of plastic lids, but I get sick of washing them. :)
Thank you! ☺️ Hopefully a helpful answer: It’s a plastic flat palette, i used to clean it but it got hard and harder to do it so i just leave it now. Add paint as I go. I personally love glass palettes they are really easy to clean( all you need is a spray bottle and a glass cleaning knife/scraper), I didnt use it for this project cause it was packed away.
These look amazing!!
@@janetapplebee90 thank you! I hope you feel inspired to make your own ☺️
This is a great idea. May I suggest a couple loops where the zipper begins and ends? I've had to rig a few of my cases so I can clip on cheap amazon purse straps so I can walk hands free. Also maybe a 2 or 3 inch thick elastic band across the front to hold a sketch book or thick palette? Looking forward to your kickstarter launch!
Such a great suggestion! Thank you, ill look into it :)
Very excited you're a step closer to the kickstarter! As for the colors, I tend to go for darker colors that aren't black, so of the selection, my only choice seems to be the blue. My vote would be for something closer to these colors: 005C53 , 8C034E , BF0436 , 812B8C , 2A5928
Thank you for your colour recommendations ☺️
Thanks for answering my question with a video… very helpful! I don’t have any large markers, I tend to use a variety of pencils / neocolours, like to have a variety of brushes and my palette is tinier. I would definitely have NO problem fitting a little sketchbook with those supplies in the case 😊.
@@FaithAnnNB oh I am so glad this helped you see how your supplies would fit ☺️
Well, to each its own. I have many, too many art supplies to fit in one pencil case.... 😂 So I tend to group my supplies into 3 wide categories: Neutrals Warms Cools Sooooooo... If it was up to me, I would buy 3, and would love to have a color coded pencil case. Sort of color coded... Maybe a bluegreen one to store my cool colors, a red, yellow or orange, to store my warm colors, and a grey or beige color to store my neutrals, you know my grayscale and browns. 😅
Oh, that does sound like a good way to organize supplies. Thank you for the colour suggestions :)
@@leahevergreenart You are most welcome. 🥰
