Diagnosing the Inner Steering Rack Bushing on an AW11 | Ep. 6
Trying out a new format for this one.
Tag along with me as I diagnose a clunk in the front end of the AW11.
I pry on stuff, make conjectures, rattle some things, and eventually find the actual problem that I didn't really want to accept.
(spoiler: it's the inner steering rack bushing)

AW11 Shift Cable Bearing, Shift Cup, Shifter Base Bushing Install | Episode 5
Переглядів 4 тис.5 років тому
Welcome back everyone! In this episode, I tell you where the hell I've been, what's going on with the car, and maybe even get some work done. Aluminum base bushings, a new shift cup, and some shifter bearing ends, all good stuff that really improves the feel and feedback of your AW11, all of which I highly suggest. Thanks for your patience with the videos, especially as I try out some new audio...
Save Your MR2 From the Scrap Heap | Ep. 4
Переглядів 6245 років тому
Join me as I clean a small forest out of the fender of my 1985 MR2. A common spot on the AW11 chassis for rust is directly in front of the doors at the bottom of the fenders. That's because Toyota put a giant damn pocket in there to catch all manner of debris. Here is how to clean it out. If not for you, for the children. Do it for the children.
AW11 MR2 Gauge Cluster Lamp Swap | EP 3
Переглядів 3,9 тис.5 років тому
Join me on an adventure of cracked Toyota plastic, very carefully tightening screws, and trying to stick my hands where they don't fit, as I swap out the terrible blue LED's for a much more 80's set of standard incandescent bulbs because these cars were built correctly originally. BGB: manual.teq.org/ (I don't use it for this one)
C52 Repair : Survey the Damage and Make the Internet Upset | EP 2

In the second and final episode (first episode here: ua-cam.com/video/-kWQKyH1pb4/v-deo.html) of the C52 repair, I survey the damage, get it all cleaned out, give the transmission some more holes, and likely disgruntle the internet. Enjoy! Oh and also, everything works great. 1988 BGB: manual.teq.org/ Permatex "The Right Stuff": amzn.to/2Spfwsm JB Weld: amzn.to/2DOhfQ4
C52 Repair : Breaking and Entering | Ep 1
Переглядів 2,5 тис.5 років тому
In the first episode of the C52 repair, I pull the transmission out of the car, separate the transmission between the bellhousing and the main case, and also start to understand why Toyota says not to do it this way. 1988 BGB (among others): manual.teq.org/ Thanks for you patience on the audio, still getting the hang of things! And thanks for watching! Second episode: ua-cam.com/video/45mtD-0r9...

    Great video. Have you had any issues with the dash lights not illuminating with the headlights on? I repaired my dimmer switch wheel (it just spun forever) but the interior lights still won’t come on.

    Nice. Do you (or anyone) know what size bulb for the defroster switch? It's much smaller.

  • @betitoroks
    @betitoroks 2 роки тому

    So I would need 7 of the 194 bulb to replace all of the dash, and 5 of the smaller 74 bulb to replace the 5 smaller ones at the bottom right? All of the bulbs went out in my dash so I just want to make sure I am ordering the correct parts

    Great video. Did spherical bushings make any difference with the car moving on the road? If sitting still it would be hard to get the full story since some gears wont engage easily depending on alignments between things in the stationary gear-box etc...

    You gotta take the cap off the top of the trans first. The. Remove 5th gear. Then you can separate the case my guy

    There are a couple more screws that anchor the trim piece with the headlight switch and whatnot on the mk1b than what is shown here. There are 2 more at the corners closest to where you're sitting in the driver's seat. Basically, if things aren't moving with nice, easy tugs then you may have missed something. Take it slow. I just broke part of that piece that sits above the dash that you lift out toward you so it really doesn't take much.

    Great video, thanks. I've got an 89 SC and I need to check my gauge bulbs. I don't drive it a lot at night anymore but this was a good guide for replacing any bulbs that might need it. I've never had the gauge cluster out before.

    Love the series man! In the market for one of these currently. Such a shame where I live in the North East these cars pretty much don't exist. Any advice for a first time buyer of an aw11?

    • @800squarefeet5
      @800squarefeet5 5 років тому

      Hey sorry for the slow reply, we just added a new member to the family (a human this time) so things have been a little wild. As for advice, hard to say these days, a clean chassis at a reasonable price used to be easy to find, now not so much. I'd say the usual "old car stuff", check for rust, unibody damage, severe crash repair, etc. Specific to AW11's? Be sure of what you want, and where you want the car to be. There are few greater things than taking the T Tops out and going for a rip, but maybe you want something more track focused and prefer a hardtop? It's getting much, much harder to find quality interior components, and other stock replacement parts, so buy the cleanest one that you can, and treat the plastic very carefully. The most important piece of advice I can give however? Make sure you buy one that you WANT to drive. The joy of these cars is using them, feeling what Toyota was in the 80's, and you can't do that looking at a pristine example that you are too afraid to drive out of the garage. My 85 has it's fair share of bumps and bruises, it's a clean car, but the slight amount of wear helps me push the rarity of these cars out of my mind and just enjoy the drive.
