The Department of Health and HPCSA should include traditional healers as part of Allied Health. A patient should be allowed to access/consult their traditional healer while admitted in hospital. I have had so many patients sign RHTs to just go consult their traditional healers. The traditional healing sphere is based on opinions and ideas that are often lost in translation. Another issue is the tribal mixing of initiates, e.g., a Sotho being initiated by a Zulu. It can not be correct that a Zulu traditional healer can connect me with my Sotho ancestors. Hence, I strongly disagree with anyone being able to become a Sangoma. No European or Asian can be Sangoma, too. Africans will never find peace as long as we continue to dilute, modernise, and capitalise on our traditions.
