You can use almost any woven fabric for a smooth gown skirt. However, stretch charmeuse is not as flowing and "watery" as a traditional silk or polyester charmeuse, and therefore, it is not as desirable a skirt fabric in my opinion. That being said, sometimes we must choose between the color we want and the fabric we want. If that is the case, go with the fabric or color choice that will help you feel most confident. Does that make sense?

Not having a sewing machine is problem. But you can get one for only a few hundred dollars. You do NOT need a fancy machine with a bunch of embroidery stitches. All the machine needs is straight and zigzag stitches that you can make short/longer and wider. I am sorry for your frustration. Yes, this Sew Like A Pro an active website. Yes, but the pattern is not sold separately because it doesn't work well if the leotard fits poorly. Hello, This is meant as a fix when fitting or altering a ready-made garment, or when making a dress from step one. However, with a pattern, you can reshape the pattern so it follows the shape of your tummy curve. Princess seams make tummy adjustments easy. If there are no princess seams, I suggest adding a dart where each princess seam would be. And/or cut the fabric out as the pattern indicates and then adjust during the fitting. Hope this helps

I admit the shoes are ugly with the dress. However, the point of the blog is to feature a dress made by a woman in my sewing school. Obviously, I'm standing in a living room, not on a dance floor. Therefore, the intent is clear that the vlog is about the dress, not about dancing. I could have gone without shoes which I have done several times since filming this video. The principles for dying most things is the same as I mention here. Delicate fabrics require a strong dye bath so the fabric doesn't have to stay in the water as long. However, tulle may or may not take the color. I suggest using one of the dyes for synthetic fabrics. RIT dye and several other companies make them now. They do a decent job of coloring crinoline, though it is not as dark or rich as dying a cotton or even elastic. However, there is hope tulle may take color also. ...Good luck! To "see mesh" or "sew mesh"? ... Phones like to autocorrect SEW to SEE. :-) If you meant sewing .... baste it together with a long, narrow zigzag stitch and try it on several times. Don't just stitch the darn thing together with an overlock stitch. You have very little control over the fit or finish when you stitch it with an overlock machine.

Those would be considered dance dresses. Good for testing dances, bad for pretty much everything else. But yes, they do sell them.

I came up with this video in which Aliona wears a lovely white dress with the filming date in November, 2023. ua-cam.com/video/H7y7d5cNxD4/v-deo.html I filmed this blog with the burgundy Juliet dress in 2019, long before Aliona's white dress version in the video link above so the burgundy dress is definitely not a copy. Also, a dress designer, I think the difference between the burgundy dress featured in my video is vastly different than Aliona's white dress. Both have the feel of a Juliet dress, but are unique.

More similar than I would have made, and than what I try to teach my sewing school members to do. However, Juliet dresses are so stylized because of the specific time period represented that there are some things that are almost always done that make them a "Juliet" dress, such as a corset look and/or an Empire style dress. For example, if you go to the theater in New York and watch the R&J play, the costumes will look very similar to the costumes at R&J in London. Make sense? So what things could/should the maker of the burgundy dress do to keep the feel of the Juliet dress without looking like a of Aliona's dress? 1) She changed the rhinestone pattern significantly when she made the dress, which was a good choice. The distinct corset look created by the rhinestones sets it apart from Aliona's blue dress. 2) the burgundy dressmaker could have done everything exactly the same as she did, except make the sleeves go completely ON the shoulders - or make them completely OFF the shoulders without the matching shoulder straps. That one (significant) detail would have made all the difference in creating two unique dresses that both have a Juliet feel to them. So anyway, I hope you enjoyed this tutorial on designing a dress using another dress as inspiration without copying! Good luck with your next design or sewing project. A criss cross is a great option. Or, you can fill in the area with mesh or stretch lace and add sequins or rhinestones to make it sparkle.

Feathers on competition ballroom dance dresses come and go in popularity. As a general rule, they cycle in and out of fashion for Standard ballgowns every 2-3 years. On Latin dance dresses, they can pretty much always be an option for applying to the hem of a flared skirt.

I too began with ballet and modern. I changed to ballroom when I was 19. I went straight into teacher training. I still remember the first time the lead raised his hand and told me I'm supposed to turn under it.... fascinating!
